Bright white object seen with one bright white missile-like object shooting out from the bottom I woke at 2:00 am and, looking out of my bedroom window, I noticed a bright white object moving slowly through the sky. I was looking N/NW and the object appeared to be traveling east toward Winston-Salem, NC. It appeared to be about 20-30 miles away but it was hard to tell and was flying at a height that I usually associate with local planes and jets that are landing at the airport in Winston.
It caught my attention that the object (which I assumed to be a plane) didn’t seem to have any of the usual lights required for aircraft. I lost sight as the object passed on the side of my house so I got up and went to a large window in the front of my house (which faces east) to see the object as it came back into view. It seemed to turn slightly south and I could finally see a flashing red light on it but the flash was not steady but rather erratic.
I watched it for 15 more seconds or so and then (to my amazement) a white light that I can only describe as looking like a missile (or a laser) shot out from the bottom straight toward the ground. Needless to say, a burst of adrenaline went through me! At first I thought a plane had dropped a bomb on the outskirts of Winston and that we might be under attack on our on soil---I stood looking at the sky for awhile and observed nothing else unusual. The object traveled on and I lost sight of it in the tree line.
The next morning I had to travel to Tennessee and when I arrived at my parents’ home, I asked them if anything had been said on the news about a bomb (or whatever) being dropped near Winston-Salem------that’s how unnerved I was.

Daylight sighting of a star-shaped object I was outside looking up to change a birdfeeder hanging near my windowsill. Out of the corner of my eye I saw what I thought was a hawk floating over my house. After a second or two I realized it had too many wings to be a hawk.
It was more of a star shape with about six points, dark against the bright blue December sky. My next guesses of a very large leaf or (hah!) a flying squirrel were ruled out by the altitude of the object. I guessed it was flying at over 1000 feet.
It cruised silently from almost directly west to east, at roughly 120 to 150 knots at my estimated altitude. As it approached the trees on the eastern horizon, I could no longer make out the points of the star. It now appeared more like a ball.
Perhaps unrelated to this, a helicopter (which I took to be military from the sound) followed the same course (and apparent altitude) exactly ten minutes later. Earlier today I was taking pictures of hawks and so had my telephoto camera within 20 feet of me but had no time to take a picture of the object. The object may have been a very large balloon, though I haven't seen many star-shaped balloons of this sort.
It flew in the direction of the wind. It made no sudden turns or other unusual movements, nor did it make any sound.

I was down at jordan lake playing guitar and it was a clear night and i could see all the stars. I saw one light off in the distance comeing towards me and then i saw three lights in a triangle formation. i could not see anything but the 3 lights, but it flew right over me, and it was sort of a droaning sound, it didnt sound like a helicopter, and seemed to be going to slow to be an airplane.

Triangle shaped craft seen On December 14th at approximatly 7:30 pm I caught a reflection out of the corner of my eye over a field and saw a triangle shaped aircraft hovering. The craft was a good distance away but not enough to be mistaken for something else.It appeared to be almost transparent but yet you could easily make out the shape.
And there were some lights on the 3 corners but they were not like conventional lights.Being around Christmas time a good way to explaine the lights is that they looked more like they were glitter and reflecting light.Hard to explaine.
At first it took me a moment to register what I was seeing. My partner was baffled at the object and went inside the house.I stood out and watched it hover with a slow rotation and move slightly from left to right and make a diping motion from time to time for about 10 minutes when all of a sudden it just disapeared all together.
The weather out was a nice partly cloudy night but there were no clouds in the area of the craft when seen. Not to sure what to think other than this thing was not like anything I have ever witnessed.Very strange indeed.

Space Shuttle presumed sighted in NC after recent night launch Just mentioning, we know it was the space shuttle, appeasring to pass through Orion. Visible as a steady orange glow, small star-sized, and even saw a white "spark" jump off in an arched pattern. Maybe a rocket being ejected and burnt? Question, even though this was a known object, did others see it? Not an impressive sighting, but very interesting and neat.
Thanks.

Glowing yellow sphere seen around midnight Note: I have already filed a report on a yellow sphere seen the day after Thanksgiving, I erroneously labeled it as a "fireball," so i request that the powers that be change that for me. Thank you. Traveling through Mills River from a concert in Charlotte, a friend and I spotted a large, glowing, yellow sphere coming out of the Blue Ridge Mountains ahead of us.
I had seen a similar (if not, the same) sphere a few weeks prior. Although the sphere was glowing yellow, it did not illuminate any of the mountains around it. The sphere appeared to be roughly 1-1/2 miles in diameter, and was about 10-15 miles ahead of us.
We both watched it, until (just like the first time i saw it), we came around a curve, and it had disappeared. Both of the spheres i saw occurred over the same mountain range in North Carolina, and both appeared and disappeared in roughly the same amount of time. I do not know the name of the mountain range where i saw the object I have already reported the first sighting of the sphere.

Bright green light passing in and out of the clouds as it moved northeast over Marble N.C. The object we witnessed was a bright green light that made no sound.
The location we were at only allowed us to see the object for about 5 seconds before is disappeared behind the trees. We were in a low valley facing about northwest when the light came into view from the left. The light passed in and out of the clouds as it flew by, illuminating the clouds with a green glow.
We have a small airport in nearby Andrews, so I've seen plenty of small planes with there lights. The light we saw was much brighter and flew at a faster speed. I would estimate the light to fly at about 3,000 to 4,000 feet and was traveling steadily northeast at about 200 to 400 miles per hour.

Glowing Green light in Boone NC While traveling 421North from Wilkes County NC to Boone NC, a friend and I witnessed a large, bright, green light with poorly defined edges rise from the mountain top to the left. It rose slowly and appeared to be hovering or moving in the direction that the vehicle was. It changed direction slowly and moved a short distance to the right and extremely rapidly moved into and above a cloud making the entire cloud glow green and it was no longer visible.
Of note, there was a major traffic accident at the bottom of the mountain but this in no way was a medivac or plane! I'm well versed on both and can attest to this.

2 green lights moving very fast traveling downward then turning moving upward at an angle and disappearing. no noise there were 2 green lights moving very fast, one above and just ahead of the other. no sound.
at first moving downward like a falling star, but much bigger, and then making a turn and and traveling upwards and disappearing into clouds. I did not see a "ship" and have never seen anything like this before and cannot imagine anything moving so fast. If anyone else saw this, please report it so I don't think I'm goin crazy.

i would like to edit my account of sighting and leave contact information. It doesn't matter if you contact me or not. My sighting was pretty insignificant but it did make an impact on my life.
It took about a year before I could drive home at night without having my eyes searching the skies looking for any sign that I might get to see it again.

Golden orange quarter moon shaped-object hovers at tree line for ten minutes before developing an orb and disappearing in Sanford, NC. At approximately 10:05 pm my husband and I observed a quarter-moon shaped, golden object at the tree line due west from the front porch of our home. The object was shaped so much like the moon and was so close in size, too, that at first we thought it was just some sort of atmospheric condition causing an odd colored moon.
It was sunset colored "golden orange." Then we realized that not only was the sky perfectly clear (we could see all of the stars; no clouds), but this "moon" was in the wrong position in the sky; it is always above the tree line and to the east at that time of night. We immediately began watching the object, discussing what it could be.
Over the course of 2-3 minutes, we both noted that the object began twinkling on the lower side, almost like some object lit with Christmas lights. The thought that it could be some sort of Christmas decoration entered our discussion, but our location is in the country in a wooded, secluded area; we cannot see any other houses from our home, and this object was not in a direction where any houses exist. Over the next few minutes, the entire object began dimming so that it was hard to see through the trees.
It was almost as if clouds were passing over it and blocking it from view, even though there were no clouds anywhere; something seemed to be obstructing our view, and the object itself seemed to be changing positions. We changed positions, trying to keep an eye on the object. It developed an orangey-red, fire colored orb over its top center area, and the entire object grew brighter momentarily.
We almost called 911. We thought maybe there was a large fire in the woods. However, before we could do anything, the body of the object dimmed again.
Over the next few minutes the orb grew smaller and smaller as if moving away from us. Then it just disappeared completely from sight. There was a beeping sound that we noticed as soon as we’d gone outdoors, and this sound continued after the object disappeared.
The beeping repetition and sound was similar to that of a house fire alarm, but it sounded, then paused for a few seconds, then sounded again, over and over. We’d never noticed that sound before the incident, and it stopped after a few hours. We’re not sure if it’s related or not, but since we both heard it, I thought we should mention it.
Background on us: I’m a published writer and photographer (and didn’t take photos!! I couldn’t seem to tear myself away long enough to get the camera), and I hold an Associate in the Arts. Currently I’m working toward a BA in English. My husband is a housing contractor.
He also runs a small business building custom guitars.

Nine chevron objects in two formations, Morehead City NC 11/26/06 2am I woke up at 2:00am Saturday morning and went out side to have a cigarette. While looking to the sky I saw four chevron shapes in a formation to the northeast moving pretty fast. As I turned to get a better look five more appeared to the left.
As the five came closer to the four almost parallel, the four broke formation, one changed into a ball of white light and the three were somehow connected to it by beams of light" like a mobile" The three flew in a random twirling side to side of the center ball like being pulled, then they went back into formation and all nine flew behind the trees out of sight. Each chevron had fourteen white lights. Two rows of seven per chevron.
The craft flew with no sound. This links to a drawing from March 3 1997 Morehead City and looks like the ones I seen. http://www.

Large, glowing, yellow sphere in Blue Ridge Mountains. On the way from Asheville to Brevard, in Mills river, I spotted a large, yellow, spherical light coming out of the Blue Ridge Mountains ahead. The Sun was still rising on the right side of the vehicle, so both the yellow sphere of light and the sun were in view.
The object was roughly 10-15 miles ahead of me, and from that distance, it appeared slightly larger than the appearance of the Sun, so I would estimate it was about 1-1 1/2 miles in diameter. I kept the object in sight until I went around a curve, then I lost sight of it.

BRIGHT LIGHT TRAVELING IN STRAIGHT LINE FROM HORIZON TO HORIZON I LIVE JUST NORTH OF CHARLOTTE-DOUGLAS INTL AIRPORT FOR ABOUT 5 YRS NOW AND AM VERY FAMILIAR WITH INCOMING,OUTGOING AND PASSING AIR TRAFFIC. I WATCH ALL THE TIME. LAST NIGHT MY WIFE AND I WATCHED A STEADY BRIGHT LIGHT, JUST BRIGHTER THAN THE BRIGHTEST STAR PASS OVERHEAD FROM NORTHEAST TO SOUTHWEST IN A PERFECTLY STRAIGHT LINE FROM HORIZON TO HORIZON.
IT WAS HARD TO TELL THE OVERALL HEIGHT OF THE OBJECT DUE TO DARKNESS-BUT IT WENT ACROSS THE SKY FASTER THAN ANY PLANES AND IT WAS DEFINATELY NOT A "SHOOTING STAR". I CONCEED IT COULD HAVE BEEN A SATELITE, BUT I DON'T THINK SO DUE TO THE BRIGHTNESS AND SPEED. JUST WANTED TO REPORT WHAT I SAW BECAUSE IT WAS UNUSUAL.
THANKS FOR THE SITE AND GREAT JOB YOU DO. ((NUFORC Note: Satellites do not travel to the west. We do not know what the witness observed.
PD)).

Black Circle seen hovering in Carolina sky. I was filming the evenings sunset with my camcorder and I noticed something in the sky. I actually spotted it with my own eyes and then focused in with my camera to get a better look.
It appeared to be a black dot or circle in the sky. The object remained basically motionless the whole time I watched it. I ran out of tape after a few minutes, but continued to watch the object through the viewfinder for a few more minutes and it never changed position.
I never heard any noise from it and it never seemed to move any closer towards me or move farther away from me. Upon viewing the tape afterwards, it appeared to have a glow around it and occasionaly seemed to blink. Sometimes once, other times it would blink a couple of times.
No apparrent pattern or consistency to it. It did seem to be hovering slightly.
