Object appearing to fly in formation with airliner before radically maneuvering away from it. I was just outside (west) of High Point, NC, during Christmas day/evening of 1982 at my Grandparents farm. My parents and I arrived a day earlier than normal for the holidays due to a death in the family just before Christmas.

The funeral visitation was that evening but I elected to stay at the farm for various reasons. It was an unusually warm night for this time of the year and that area. I decided to take a walk across a hill adjacent and above my Grandparents house and walk my uncle’s dog.

I took notice that there were a lot of jetliners on approach to KGSO airport passing over the farm from South to North before banking right base to runway 5 at GSO after. Being an avid aircraft/aviation enthusiast, I pretty much was able to identify that there were 737-100/200, 727-100/200, and DC-9 jetliners passing over by the landing configuration of each type as well as there being enough residual light to actually see the bottom of each aircraft clearly. The sequence of separation of the aircraft ranged approximately 3 to 5 minutes at the height of an arrival push of scheduled flights.

I paid only limited attention to the flights except when they were directly overhead. At one point, I was facing South seeing the airliners coming at me head on. It was at this point that I saw something extremely unusual occur.

I saw two jetliners approaching out of the South and one passed over with another behind it. The next one appeared to be a DC-9 with its landing lights set far apart near it’s wing tips. I took one glance and then lowered my head to pay attention to my uncle’s dog.

I then looked back up to see why the jet had not passed over (it appeared closer due to the wider separation of the landing lights) and then realized something was off as the jetliner had not passed yet and it appeared to be moving either very slowly or it was larger than I fight thought (larger than a DC-9? GSO normally didn’t service DC-10’s or larger aircraft). I kept my eye on this jet puzzled why it was so slow to approach when suddenly the right landing light(to the left from my perspective) appeared to drop as if the jet was banking very steeply to the right going into a full roll to inverted flight. My first thought was that this jet was in serious trouble and I was about to witness a crash.

But the right "landing light" accelerated completely around until it was below the left light and then suddenly accelerated up at a 45 degree angle and sped away until it disappeared (quickly faded away). It was then I realized that the left "landing light" was stationary(not rolling or connected to the right light) and that the right side light had actually circled the left light before accelerating up and away(Westward). I also then realized that the other light was still moving towards me.

I ran quickly towards my uncle and aunt’s house about 120 yards away. As I reached the house, the other light reached me and that light turned out to! be the nose strut light of a 727. The aircraft appeared as if there was nothing wrong with it and it continued on towards GSO making no sudden changes in turn rate.

direction, or altitude. I did not see any other similar objects in the area that evening or any subsequent evenings after that. Characteristics of the object were that it was the same intensity and color as the lights of the jetliner.

and it made no sound. From my perspective, it appeared to be flying in formation to the right of the jet and appeared to have the same forward speed as the jet prior to the "barrel roll" and 45 degree climb to the West before disappearing.

I saw what appeared to be a large boomerang shaped craft with pale blue lights along the leading edge. I was driving east toward Boone, NC, along US Hwy 421, which is in the NE corner of the state, at approximately 10 - 10:30 PM, about the middle of December, of 1982. It was a cold & crisp evening with no clouds, and was a beautiful starry night.

I was looking out my side window toward the nearby mountains which the road paralleled, when something above caught my eye. There was not any other traffic on the road at this time. Slowing down somewhat to try & get a better look at what I had thought I had seen, I rolled the window down & looked out & up.

At this time I saw a bunch of pale blue lights in formation overhead moving slowly toward the northeast. I pulled off the side of the road & got out of my vehicle. Overhead, at what I guessed to be maybe 1000 - 1200 feet above, I could just barely make out the shape of a large dark boomerang and the pale blue lights were evenly spaced along the leading edge.

The lights did not waver and were constant. I could easily see the stars behind the object blotted out as the shape passed in front of them. Shortly after pulling over, another vehicle came along heading in the same direction as I had been.

My lights were still on, & I assume they must have thought I had a vehicle problem, as they slowed down & pulled over a short distance behind me. They saw me standing by the side of the road peeering up, & they also got out to see what I was looking at. There were 2 or 3 people in the other car.

I never did get their names, but pointed out to them what I was seeing. They saw it as well. The shape seemed to be moving quite slowly across the sky.

There was no sound at all. I assumed the altitude of the shape above, as I had nothing to gauge the distance by, it being dark. But looking at the object & holding my arms extended upward & pointing to either side of the boomerang itself, my hands were approximately 3 1/2 feet apart.

This is the only way I can judge how big the shape was, other than that the shape was about the same size as the B-52 bombers, which used to do fly overs on a regular basis over the area during the early days of the Vietnam War, in training missions. These bombers used to fly at about 1000 - 1200 feet, close enough to the ground that you could see the windows along the side, & could easily make out the markings on the wings. I watched this object as it slowly passed overhead, until I could see it no longer.

I don't think it was any kind or type of conventional aircraft, due to the fact that it made no sound whatsoever, & it seemed to be moving too slowly for its size. I have never seen anything like this before or after this one night, but I will certainly never forget what I saw. ((NUFORC Note: Date is approximate.

Bell shaped UFO with lights hovering without sound. Buncombe County, N.C.

It was 1982, I believe in October, and probably within a half hour before the sun went down. It was on 19-23 at the Jupiter-Barnardsville exit. The object was not obviously metal and did not reflect light and if I guessed how far off the ground it was I would think roughly 300 ft but no more, and the size was large and if it landed it would have likely took up the width of the median and both sides of the roadway.

It was bell shaped and the bottom of it had three lights (I believe 2 blue and 1 red) and shining down from the center was a single white beam of light that was uniform size from where it came out of the object all the way to the ground. The object was hovering without sound directly above a section of ground between Old Mars Hill Hwy and the ramp that takes vehicles from Jupiter Rd up to 19-23S with the light shining directly down between Old Mars Hill Hwy and the ramp. There was some dust or vapor that appeared to be moving inside the beam of light.

I might not have believed my eyes but there were cars pulled over on both sides of the highway and people were looking at it, the way I would have liked to, but my boyfriend who was driving was so scared he wouldn’t pull over and only slowed down enough to get a good look. I do not know how long it hovered there. Even now, the guy who is now my ex-husband says that yes he saw something, there were cars pulled over and yes it scared the hell out of him.

A square shaped white object that appeared as quickly as it disappeard The sky was very clear. There were no clouds. It was a beautiful starry night.

I was gazing at the stars and suddenly a perfectly square shaped object appeared as if it was resting on the earth's atmosphere. It was milky white in color. As I pointed to it, it suddenly zoomed across the sky leaving a faint white trail behind it.

The trail could be seen for at least a minute if you knew where to look. My companion could not see the trail. The object appeared and disappeared so quickly, my companion did not have a chance to see it.

I just happened to be looking at the right place at the right time. I have never seen it again or any other unexplained objects since then and have never heard any reports anywhere of square shaped objects. ((NUFORC Note: Witness elects to remain totally anonymous; provides no contact information.

The ball changed from blue-green to yellow red green triangle shape A friend an I were camping out in the woods in a tent.Around 3:35 I went out to pee as I did I looked up and seen a glowing green-blue ball in the air .I called out to my friend to get out of the tent and see .

By the time he got out of the tent it had changed its shape and color from round to triange red green yellow.All I could say is do you see that ?! We started to walk twards is .we could not tell how close or far it was.

Then after about 2 min it changed to a ball again .And moved staight up and stoped then over like at a 45deg angle at a speed so fast a plane would brake apart.then disapeard .

We spent the next night out ther again to see if it will come back but it never did . To this day it was the strangest thing I have ever seen. ((NUFORC Note: Witness elects to remain semi-anonymous.

Silver oval w/rotating lights I was visiting my father for the summer when on one evening just after the sun set I was playing outside by myself when this craft came from behind the trees and slowy hovered just above tree top level. It ran dowwn the length of the yard ( About 100 yds.) and out over the feild with me running right under it.

It made no sounds but it seemed to create a lite breeze it the trees and field grass. It had lights going all the way around it and had a metalic apperance. This happpened when I was 10 or 11 and I have never since seen anything strange in the sky but this I know was not of anything I can explain to this day.

White orb over I-85 in Durham NC early 80’s I was a kid, and witnessed an orb like light over I-85 while traveling with family. It was white. This was the early 1980’s so I was about 9 years old.

They didn’t see it but I was a kid and looking straight up into the sky. It moved faster than I can explain. Nothing I have seen since to compare it too.

It zoomed over the highway. Then came to a dead stop, about several hundred feet above the hwy. within seconds it zoomed back off into the sky going upwards.

There was no sound. Have never forgotten this moment. I knew it was something out of the ordinary.

Triangle over Rocky Point, NC FLYING TRIANGLE It was in the summer of 1982 my oldest sister and I where lying in the back yard one night star gazing when we noticed what appeared to be three stars in a triangle pattern in a fixed position in the sky and they were brighter that the other stars. After a short time a white light appeared from the center of the group of lights and then that light began to move away from the triangle group and across the sky until we could no longer see it. At the time I was around 8 years of age and me and my sister compared what we were seeing to the movie Star Wars because of the triangle shape reminded us of the star destroyers from the movie.

But at that time the triangle was not moving. A short time later I went in the house and my other sister went out to look at the stars with my oldest sister. It was just a few minutes after I entered the house that both of my sisters ran in the back door screaming that a giant black triangle had just flew over the house.

My father and I ran out the back door and we could see the lights through the trees and could hear a low humming noise coming from it. My sisters said that the triangle pattern of stars had started moving down from the sky as they watched and then it glided right over the house with no sound until it passed. They said that it blacked out all the stars but they could see stars off to the sides of this massive triangle ship.

With there close up encounter with the object they said that it had three lights on the under side one on each corner and bright lights across the back of it. I my dad and my sisters never really talked about what we had seen with anyone except amongst ourselves because of what people would think. It wasn’t until me and my girlfriend saw the special on the travel channel last month about the triangle over Illinois.

It was then I began to search the web and was floored by all the sightings of the same craft we had seen so long ago and that’s why I am reporting it now These triangle shaped ships or ship are as real as this planet military or not. Driving home at night, saw lights that I thought were landing lights of an airplane, stopped my car, lights didn't move, huge object. Driving home from town, I observed what I thought were landing lights from Air Force planes. I lived within probally a mile or so of the landing pattern for Seymour Johnson AFB and have seen their planes numerous times.

Also, my father was career Air Force and I have been around planes all of my life. To the point that I was able to identify certain types of planes just by hearing them, the distinct sounds they made. (Ex.

F4's, C5A, C141's, F104 & 105's to name a few) This particular evening I was about a mile from home, when I noticed "these" lights. Being familiar with the area and what SJ landing pattern was, when I saw these lights, I thought to myself , "these guys are really low". I watched for about 30-45 seconds.

The lights appeared right at tree top level. The closer I got to the lights, the lower the seemed to drop, now visibly seeing trees pass in front of these lights, evern at a distance. My thought at that point was, these guys are not going to make the runway.

From where I lived and where I saw these light and knowing where the runway was, they were just too low. The runway was at least another mile to the east and they were at tree top level. The first part of the road I was traveling on a straight away.

After about 30-45 seconds of watching this, the road turns to the right. No one on the roads at all that night. As I bear to the right towards my home, which is about 1/4 mile away now, I am now looking to my left, out of the drivers window, watching these light, which seem to bop from tree top level to below that and back up again.

At this point, I am really thinking that this plane is going to crash, these guys are in trouble and they are way too low. Again, after I bear right and I'm watching what I thought was an Air Force plane, I'm only going about 20 mph, hardly taking my eyes off of this thing. Also, there is a small wheat field off to my left on the other side of the road before the tree line.

The tree line at this point where I am at is about 220-250 yards from the! road. As I'm watching this thing, I use the term "thing or lights", I notice something strange which at first I concluded was just some kind of optical illusion, because of the direction I am traveling now and the direction of the lights are traveling. I think SJ planes usually land in a west to easterly direction.

I am now traveling west. As I'm driving, I'm glancing out of my window, the lights look like they are going in the same direction I am traveling. I have my window down in the car as well, and after 150 or so feet, I begin thinking to myself, I should be hearing this thing as large as it is and it's seems to be going the same direction as me, this is really strange.

So I pull my car to a stop. A complete stop in the middle of the road. I look out of my window and there slightly below tree top level is this huge craft of some type, now also, like me, stopped, not making a sound, no engine sound whatsoever, not moving, but clearly airborne and clearly a very large craft.

My best estimates on size were 300 ft long and about 40 foot high, multiple row of lights straight across for looked like each tier, three tiers. Anyway, I panicked after about 6-7 seconds of sitting there looking at this thing, punched the gas and flew home. I have had 2 other encounters/observations/sightings, one the very next night, at my house which was stange in itself and another about 10 years earlier when I lived in Alaska.

The Alaska sighting I had was witnessed with a friend, whom I won't mention.

Hi I have reported this before from the US Coast Guard ship Chilula. I just don't understand why you guys haven't gotten in touch with the other people involved. The OOD at the time of the incident refused to make a log entry in his log.

However he was only one of many witnesses. You guys should really check this out. I've seen some obvious hoaxes here and this was a real encounter' ((NUFORC Note: We have written the source of this statement, and requested that he contact the other witnesses, and have them submit reports, too.

this was no helicopter squad as my girlfriend at the time and i drove along state highway 54 outsdie of chapel hill we were on a hill top going down the hill and heading back up the next hill when we saw a round lighted object sitting across the road. it was about 60 feet in diameter and just sort of hung over the road it made no sound at all.as we approached it rose up into the air only about 50 feet or so.

as we passed under it the inside the car turned blue and my girlfriend freaked out on me.i slowed to 10 mph.as we moved the object stayed right over us.

the whoile inside of the car lite up.i rolled down my window and looked up.it was round and had bright lights.

they lights seemed to change some how.as i calmed down my girlfriend and assured her we were not going to die, i got her to grab my camera and snap off a few shot of the object. as i continued to drive the cars behind me all stopped.

the object stayed right on top of us as we drove along. when i turned it turned.i noticed that the on coming traffic did not move either.

traffic was light at this time.after about 15 minutes the object went straight up at such a speed and then just shot off at an angle into the darkness.we drove back to cary and went to se my girlfriends next door neighbor.

he had worked on project blue book.so he seemed like the right person to talk to.he wanted my film bad.

but i would not give it to him.he left the room and i could hear him make a few calls.we left.

i took the film to the drug store for processing.when i got it back.all the negatives of the object where gone.

the pictures i took before the encounter and after all came out fine, but i was shot by 5 negatives.not even blanks were in the pack.i wernt home after leaving my girlfriends and told my dad about it.

he thought i was nuts.but i know he was in the air force too.and i am not sure.

but i do think he worked on blue book also.i did not tell him about the pictures i had taken.a few years ago when i was home for a visi! t.

my d ad made a point of telling me that my experience had been report a few weeks ago in the local paper as a squad of helicopters.now mind you.this is some 18 years after the actual event.

i knwo that at the time there was a small article in the paper.and some 300 people repprted the sighting.well.

that is my story.i dont tell people about it.i dont want to be considered a nut.
