Flying light flew across sky, stopped, zig zagged, turned red, then flew back up and disapeared. It was in September of 1980 when I, a merchant seaman from Baltimore, MD and two others being from Houston Texas and Seattle Washington were relaxing after the day on the back of the ships deck when I was the first to notice what looked like a flickering star on the edge of full starry sky. The ship was northbound outside of the coast of North Carolina on its way to the New York Harbor.
I said to the others look at that star flickering. Then suddenly what looked like a star flew at tremendous speed toward the horizon and suddenly stopped in the middle of the sky. The object then zig zagged up and down like nothing on earth could do at a great speed.
It then stopped and turned a bright red. The man from Texas said it was taking our picture with infrared light. After turning a bright white again it flew toward the starry sky and disappeared.
A few weeks later a ship I worked on in the summer of 1978 disapeared in the Atlantic Ocean. It was the S.S.
Poet. The name of the ship at the time of the sighting was the S.S.
Inger. ((NUFORC Note: Witness indicates that date is approximate. PD)).

Cigar shape craft with lights inside over Charlotte, NC. My ex-wife and I were sitting at a red light at the intersection of Independence blvd. and Idlewild Road.
We were facing North. We notice to our right about half a block away some type of flying craft just above tree top level. It was moving very slowly.
It appeared to be silver in color, cigar shaped and had a row of windows on its side. It appeared to have lights on inside. At first I thought that is was a airliner flying very low and I even tried to see any people sitting in the craft.
However, we soon realized that this was not a airliner. When the light at the intersection turn green, we crossed the intersection and went into the parking lot of a large bargain store. I parked the car facing east.
We observed the craft continuing to travel across Independence Blvd. at a very slow rate of speed. We also noticed that everything became real quiet.
We could not hear the traffic nor could we hear our vehicle running although we could hear each other talking. We were able to get a good look at it as it crossed the highway. Although it appeared to have lights on inside, we did not see anything or anybody inside the craft.
As the craft reached the center of Independence Blvd., it stopped, hovered for about a minute and then began to travel toward the east over the highway. Although it was now heading away from us, we never lost sight of the row of lighted windows that were facing us.
We watched the craft until it disappeared heading east. ((NUFORC Note: Source of report indicates that the date of the incident is approximate. PD)).

Orange light splits into three pieces Four of us stood on the porch on a warm, clear evening. I was watching airliners flying over at about 30,000 feet, headed to the airport at Charlotte, sixty miles away. The planes were just lights with no sound.
They followed the same path, one every five minutes or so. Then another light came along, an orange light the looked just like the others, but this one split into three pieces. I thought I had just seen a plane blow up and pointed this out to my three friends.
We saw one of the three lights continue towards Charlotte while another turned north and the third light turned in our direction and seemed to hang in the sky. We assumed the light was at airliner altitude, but when I went out to the car to get some binoculars, I saw that the light moved against the backdrop of stars when I moved. This indicated that the light was much lower than we thought, perhaps only two hundred feet.
The light drifted slowly over town and we followed it in a car, easily able to keep up. At one time, we saw a series of fire balls shooting out of the bottom like a Roman candle. This scared us, but nothing happened.
The light drifted out of town. We pulled into a church parking lot and got out to watch. The orange light suddenly accelerated very quickly and was out of sight in a few seconds.
