North Carolina UFO Sightings in 1986

Roadside triangular UFO sighting resulting in missing time. (This is a follow-up to a report I had submitted previously) A friend and I observed what appeared to be a triangular shaped craft as we traveled south on Highway 52 near Mt. Airy, NC.

At first, I thought that we were approaching some kind of lit up construction site near the treeline on the opposite side of the highway. I was reaching across from the passenger seat adjusting the radio when I noticed this anomaly. The lights looked three dimensional, for lack of a better description.

When I realized that the lights were attached to an object and actually gaining altitude, I directed my friend's (the driver) attention to that direction. We both kept asking each other what this thing was that we were watching. The underside of the object had a white light on each corner and a bigger, very bright light in the center shining on the ground below.

As the object slowly and deliberately rose above the treeline, the light in the center went out. The remaining three lights, which had been rotating clockwise while the object ascended, came to a stop. Then the lights slowly rotated about a half of a revolution counter-clockwise and cocked up at an angle simultaneously, which put the lights facing almost directly at our passing car.

After a brief pause, the object silently 'blinked' out of the atmosphere in a split second, zig-zagging in what seemed like thousands of small straight lines. We soon noticed that no traffic was visible in either direction during/after the sighting, which was eerily improbable on this busy four lane highway at that time. The FM radio, which had suddenly failed just prior to the sighting, then started working again (this gave us a scare because I had inadvertantly turned the volume all the way up in my troubleshooting effort).

Much to our relief, the normal amount of oncoming traffic soon resumed in the northbound lanes, although we did not see any headlights behind us in the southbound lanes the rest of the 20+ miles to our exit - we also looked northward from the bridge while crossing back over the highway after exiting and could not see any headlights approaching. We were very intrigued by what we had experienced as one might expect. Upon reaching our destination, we came to a very disturbing realization, however.

The thirty minute trip, which we had made many times before, had taken us almost FOUR HOURS. There was absolutely no explanation for the missing time and we were totally dumbfounded. The only thing that we could figure was that since we were almost directly under the UFO, we must have been affected by its energy field.

That would also explain the lack of continuity in the flow of traffic, we surmised.

Summary : We were driving south on Hwy. 52 when we saw 3 white lights in a triangular shape ascend from the trees to the left of the highway and hover momentarily before "swirling" out of sight. I was 19 years old and my best friend, also, was 19.

We had just bought a 74 Pinto from a welder on the job we worked at. We rode home with him and drove the car back from N. of Mount Airy, NC on Dec 31, 1986.

Andy was driving S. on Hwy. 52 when I saw 3 lights in a triangular formation ascend from the trees on the left side of the highway.

I pointed in amazement at which time Andy hunched over the wheel and saw the lights also. They were about a hundred yards away and rotating as they ascended. Andy slowed down and we stared at the lights for about 10 seconds.

The lights then moved rapidly east, kind of swirlinga bit before zipping almost straight up and completely out of sight. At the rate the lights accelerated, it left us in a total state of shock. Since this occured on New Years Eve, we've had a hard time convincing anyone that we really saw it and I never heard of any other sightings.

We used to talk about it a lot but people think we're crazy and heated arguments would ensue. What's confusing to me is that no sonic boom or any kind of noise for that matter was heard or felt.

Six aircraft moving at high rates of speed in an acrobatic formation then dissapearing in a star burst I was out watching the stars with my mother and sisteron or about the 22 of October 1986. Around 22:00 I noticed a quick streak that looked like a metor. It went from east to west.

What caught my attention was that when it was directly overhaed it stopped.It was very small like a small star.I could see four other similar size objects in a circle like patten extending to the horizon It was similar to a clover exit ramp on the interstate.

About seven minutes passed and two more lights appeared. One from the north and the other the south.They crossed the sky in less thn a second and stopped where the first light was directly overhead.

The four that were doing thier circles joined sith the others. They the shot out in what looks like a super nova and dissapeared. There was no noise.

I had my mother call Seymore Johnson AFB in Goldsboro to see if they had picked up anything on radar. She said the did not have any aircraft on radar. I do not know if they took a report or not.

Large Triangle object in sky over North Carolina This night in question takes place years ago. I don’t even know the date, but it must have been from say early October, or until the end of march. The reason I say this, is because my best friend and I had gone to watch NC State play basketball.

So it was definitely during basketball season. The year was 1985, or 1986. The only reason I’m reporting it, is because I see others who have seen similar objects.

I’ve (We’ve) kept it to ourselves all these years. Oh, we have mentioned it to a few people, but you can imagine what kind of ribbing we took. Anyway, it was after the ball game, and that would have been between 9 and 12 pm depending on what time the game was.

I really don’t remember if it was a 7:00 game or an 9:00 game. We were on our way back home on 50 highway from Raleigh towards Benson. We were driving in a small pickup when we noticed a huge black object to our left.

It was really low, if I had to guess, I would say maybe 600 feet or less. I would guess the object to be at least as long as a football field. We pulled over and both of us opened our doors, got out, and looked up as this huge triangular object passed over us.

It was solid black, with no discernable lights except for the very tip of the triangle. The other thing worth mentioning, is that it was slowly rotating as it moved. Well we stood there and watched this object move from the left to directly overhead moving to the right of us.

Since we were on 50 south, that would have been East to West. As we looked up, we were both in awe. It made absolutely no noise whatsoever.

Completely silent. I think that was the eeriest part of the whole thing. How could something that huge fly the way it was flying, and make not a bit of sound.

We tried to follow it somewhat, but because it was so low to the ground, it was out of sight in less than 2 minutes. Gone behind the treeline. We’ve often discussed it between ourselves, but not made too many waves.

We never heard anything else, and we figured something that big would have had to be seen and reported by other people. I know what I saw, and I’ve watched a lot of shows about our military, and never never have seen an aircraft like what I just described. I’m pretty sure the stealth was not out at that time, but even if it was, it did not fly in the manner with which I witnessed that night.

My main reason for posting this, was to see maybe, just maybe someone else saw the same thing my friend and I did, and about that same time frame. In 1986 NC, a red and yellow glowing object appears to mother, son, and daughter leaving them without memory of it The object, which was a spherical red neon-like light, flanked by two smaller yellow neon-like spheres, flew very low over the countryside until it came to hover directly above the heads of my Mother, my Sister, and myself. This was late 1986. It was only until very late in 1997 that I remembered seeing the object.

Upon asking my sister and mother about it, they remembered it then as well, and ONLY UNTIL then. Neither of us remember the object leaving, or us going home, getting back into the care after seeing it,.nothing.

UFO of spherical red and yellow lights hovers over family leaving them with no memory of incident I was 16 years old at the time. My mother, my sister, and myself were traveling home after they had picked me up from marching band rehearsal at my high school's football field. Mom was driving, my sister was riding in the front passenger seat, and I rode in the back seat.

Approximately 1/2 mile from the school, I noticed a light above the trees on the other side of a field. This area is mostly vast farmland. The light had a reddish/yellowish glow.

Upon noticing the glowing light, I said to my mother without taking my eyes off of the light, "Mom, you might want to pull the car over. I think you want to see this." As I remained transfixed on the light, Mom pulled the car over.

She jumped out of the car, as did I and my younger sister. The three of us hopped a small ditch and stood in the open field looking at the light. The moment the three of us stopped and stood together to watch the light, the light began to move toward us.

While in the distance, there was no way to tell its size, shape, or distance. As it began to move toward us, I could see a large red sphere of light, flanked by a smaller yellow sphere of light on each side of the larger red sphere. It moved slowly and made absolutely no sound.

As it approached, I could see the red glow reflecting off the field in front of us. As it grew nearer, static electricity grew strong as well raising the hair on my arms and head. From the moment I first noticed the object, I looked away only twice.

Once I looked down at my arms to notice my hair standing up and the red glow reflecting off my skin. The second time I looked away, a car was passing by. It was a friend of mine leaving rehearsal as well with his mother.

I watched them pass to see if they noticed the light, or us watching it. They passed by without notice of anything. It was then I turned back to look at the light when I realized it was almost directly over head.

The three of us grew highly anxious and embraced one another tightly. My mom stood in the middle, I was on her right, my sister was to her left. We never spoke throughout the duration of the event.

As the object hovered directly over head, I could see through the light. There was no structure within it. No apparent source from which the light emitted.

The red and yellow lights were bright, but not blinding or hurtful to the eyes. The lights appeared electric, yet soft, like a neon sign. That moment in time is the last memory either of us have of witnessing the object.

For all three of us, there is no recollection of the object departing, us departing, us going home, us returning to the car, or even discussing what we had seen. The object hovering directly above us is collectively our last memory of that entire night. It was a few years later while in college that I remembered the incident.

I was outdoors one evening photographing shots of the moon. Upon later developing the images, I noticed a small metallic-looking ball hovering near the moon in the frame. I had taken several shots and the object appeared in one other photo, only this time it had moved much closer to the moon.

Viewing these photos startled me. It was then I remembered the incident with my mother and sister in 1986. Upon recalling the incident in 1986 with my mom & sister, I was quite disturbed when my memory didn't last beyond the object hovering above us.

I promply visited my mother to ask her about it. She rememberd the incident vividly with the same detail as myself, with no memory of the object's departure, and no memory of the incident at all until then. She and I called my sister on the telephone to inquire about the same night.

She too remembered the exact same incident with the exact same voids in her memory. Later, the three of us met face to face to recall the events of that evening and our memories, and lackings thereof, were in perfect accord. I do not know what it was nor do I claim that it must be alien.

The only thing I know it to have been was a UFO.an Unidentified Flying Object. A UFO that left the three of us with some very unusual effects.

I heard a very low but strong rumbling noise and went to the back porch to see what was making it. When I opened the Storm door I looked up and saw a large disc shaped object with a dome on top and a triangular bottom, about fifty feet above the tree tops, which are about fifty feet tall. It was moving very slowly in a steady South South West direction.

There were no lights on but I could see it against the skyline. What stood out to me was the sound!! It was very deep steady, powerful propulsion system sound. The feeling the sound left with me was that it was very, very powerful and under no stress.

I've been around powerful diesel propulsion systems and none of them were that powerful.

I have thought of this event my whole life I was 12 I am now 46. My father and I was standing at edge of our yard when dad said, "What hell is that?" I looked and saw what was about as tall as a 30 story building just sitting 100 yards from us in a cut cornfield. It was about as wide as as a football field or so.

I looked at reports of this same ufo in the database it made me want to report my sighting. The only difference is this craft was hovering with no lights. It had windows running all down the left side like a tall building.

I also could see coming out right side a cone shaped metallic booster looking object like on our space shuttles. It had little bit steam coming out of it like it was a vent instead of being a rocket for propulsion. I also could see at the top what l swear looked like a head with bulls horns or something, a emblem of some kind.

It scared my dad so bad that when I ran towards it to get closer for a better look he screamed at me to stop and wait for him go first to see what hell had landed in our field. He finally caught me and led the way when all sudden it vanished and was gone. We walked back then but to this day I wish I had gone on out there because I think still to this day it was still there it just cloaked itself.

I thought so much over years of this and my dad still doesn't have any explanations either.We lived in perfect place I later thought for something to land away out by ourselves 100 acres of land on a dead end road no other houses would be able see this but ours.I stumbled on this website hoping find others that have seen my ufo or one like it.

If you look at rectangle ufo sightings the one I saw is described 30 storys high or so and width of football field with windows up and down it like a building is described more than once.Im so glad I was able to read those reports that this thing has been seen all over and is REAL.It feels good to be able get my story on here too,I have looked in fi! elds and up in clouds all these years hoping see it again but ! have not I swear on my life and my father would too on that this happened one late evening in late 80s and I have never forgot it or been able to explain it but I feel now for sure after reading about people reporting the same ufo in detail, mine just was not lit up or could I see people in the windows like some other reports of this same ufo.

Low flying, large cigar shaped craft close-up view the day of the Challenger disaster in 1986. On January 28th 1986 I viewed the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster on TV on a rare day off from commissioning a local power plant. After about an hour of watching it over and over again on TV, I was called-in to work.

I left around 1pm from Whiteville, NC to travel to Elizabethtown, NC. I travelled Red Hill Road, a less used route, as I wanted to avoid lunch traffic in town. Just a couple of miles from Clarkton, NC I started to pass through a wooded swamp area that had been heavily logged.

From my right I caught a glimpse of something large through the open areas and remaining trees heading from my right to left (North to South). I slowed down as I was expecting to see some large Military aircraft travelling way to low or thought it could be a passenger jet about to crash. When it appeared in front of me over the open road I was shocked to see a craft that was metallic brown, cigar shaped, with either windows or squares and a ziz-zag pattern around them.

The craft had no wings and there was no sound and was travelling too slowly for any aircraft I knew of to stay airborne. I know this because this was not a distant sighting. The craft was right in front of me maybe 500 to 1000 yards away and I got the best and only view I have ever had of an unknown craft as it passed in front of me heading south.

I had spent six years in the Navy and had been discharged only about 6 months prior. I had seen the Russian bear, migs, most of our jets and aircraft in Grenada, Lebanon, and all over the world. Later my wife and a friend brought food to the power plant for me.

When they arrived they were all excited about seeing dancing lights in the sky, the kind that dance around then join into one before travelling off at an astonishing speed. They witnessed this in the same area in the swamp on Red Hill Road just after sunset that day. It’s been 24 years since that sighting, and I don’t feel as uneasy talking about it now.
