North Carolina UFO Sightings in 1974

In 1974 I was in Walker dorm on the 7th floor where I went to school at Western Carolina University, in the little mountain village of Cullowhee, N.C. It was exam time and a few days before Christmas break.

The dorm was full, but the halls quiet, because most of us were either studying or trying to catch up on sleep. It was about 8:30 pm in the evening and I had just lay down and turned out the light to catch a nap. Suddenly the brilliant light flashed into my room with a thunderous sound.

The whole room shook. Frightened, I ran out of my room. Girls every where in the hall where screaming did you hear that, what happened? No alarm went off, but about 10 girls at the large window at the end of the hall, yelled for us to come and see what was in the sky.

It was a typical winter night sky, I don't remember a moon, but I do remember thousands of beautiful stars. We looked in astonishment as large star like object hovered distantly in the sky. It danced like a "Mitch Mitchell" music ball all over the horizon.

Suddenly it lifted itself high above the distant mountain peaks and 5 smaller orbs separated from the large one and just went crazy in the sky; zigzagging everywhere. Then all six orbs flashed into the sky and disappeared. We called security and they said we were just seeing things, that we, a whole dorm-floor of girls were just playing a hoax.

It was no hoax. I really heard that large boom in my room and looked out that window with the other girls and it was no jet plane. It was beautiful dancing orbs, and I am as sane as rain.

saw very large saucer shape low 300ft. hovering ufo craft round dim white or gray disk shape one-hundred yards across blue dim lights on bottom of craft about 500 feet high in sky it was just hovering above absolutely no sound i just looked while driving and there it was hovering above the street we looked by stoping about one minute became afraid and drove away it did nothing i had just pulled out on park road out of a apartment building we disgusted the craft while going to a movie that nite my friend and i did not know what we had just wittnessed my girl friend was without words as to what to say i suppose leaving was the smart thing to do we were not talking about ufo's that nite but we saw one we both knew strange afterwords days later we just shut up and never talked about it anymore but it seemed as if 5 minutes had passed getting to the movie but actually about 25 minutes had passed i pondered the time of this incident and it has always puzzeled me but i know we weren't taking up or anything like that we just observed the sighting of the extra large silent saucer craft.

1 of 3 UFOs followed my car after we watched them hovering for a few hours. During the summer of 1974, two of my cousins came to my home upset and frightened, saying their car had just been "buzzed" by a large object with bright lights. They were afraid to drive the rest of the way home alone, so I followed them in my car.

When we reached their home and looked to the east, we saw three objects hovering above a field behind our grandmother's home. They were in a triangle formation, with two on top and one on the bottom. We sat on my cousin's porch and watched them for a few hours.

During that time, every so often they would swap positions, reversing the triangle. They had mainly white lights, but those changed periodically to orange. When I left, one of them broke away and stayed parallel to my car the entire length of the road (about a mile).

I turned right, and it did the same. It remained beside me, just above the trees, until I met a car a half a mile later. Then it did a 180-degree turn and followed that car.

My cousins said the other two left in the same direction I drove a few minutes after my departure. We never saw them again, but there were other reported sightings in our area that summer. ((NUFORC Note: Source of report indicates that date of the event is approximate.

UFO followed us and wouldn't leave us alone. It hovered just above the trees and had large lights that sequentially changed colors and flashed clockwise in a circular motion. The lights were amber, red, white with different colored sparkles inside, bluish purple, and green.

It hovered for approximately 5 minutes and the lights turned purple and reversed direction and the craft started to land just behind the first row of trees and when it touched the ground we all got back into our vehicle and got out of there. We got out of the car in the first place because the saucer shaped craft followed us from above for several miles. Everything was black that night and no one was on the road either that could see what was going on except us.

It may have been around 23:00 hrs that the incident occurred. My sister doesn't remember anything at all, but the rest of were scared. My mother said that the craft followed her on every turn and she couldn't shake it off at all, that is why we got out was because it wouldn't leave us alone.

We very luckily escaped with our lives. The craft appeared to have some type of trouble or something because it sort of wobbled only slightly like it may have been in trouble but we weren't going to stick around to see what came out of it so we left without delay. The only sound it made was a very low noise so low I couldn't really describe how it sounded but it was a low hum.

Bright yellow light that seemed to stretch over entire town. While driving home on HWY 27 heading toward Stanley, NC away from the town limits of Mt. Holly with 2 siblings and sister-in-law we noticed a very bright light.

Light was yellow and bright enough to be seen in every direction. It looked as if the entire town was lit by this light. The light seemed to follow our old green station wagon.

I was around 13 or 14 at that time and my brother six years older was driving. The light followed and as it got closest it was just over the hood of the vehicle. It hovered a while as to observe us.

We were all frightened that it may collide. We then pulled over to the left side of the hwy at an old fish restaurant at the time. The restaurant was closed and I am not positive of the time yet it was dark.

We sat in the parking lot while the light hovered. In that time period nothing we knew could move this way. Nothing would just hover as it did.

The light remained a little while then suddenly took off accross the highway at a high speed and seemed to blow up in a field maybe 250 feet away. We only saw a small explosion and with the size I think it should have been larger. A police officer from Mt.

Holly, I assume, drove up while we were still standing outside the vehicle and asked us if we saw anything. To be totally honest, we took him for some kind of authority figure and I am not exactly sure what kind. He said that he had many reports of a bright light over the town.

I have spoken to my sister and sister in law about this and both remember pretty much the exact same thing. It was many years ago and I am now retired and never got this out of my mind. My sister did mention a fact I had not remembered that the light seemed to have left behind a mist on the car.

I would love to know what happened that evening but unfortunately probably never will. I do not know if allot of time could have been lost that night but it does seems that my mom asked what took so long that night as she was cooking dinner. She was at the time arguing about cooking fresh biscuits so I definitely remembered the dispute over leftover biscuits.

I actually opened the back door and remembered my mom throwing old biscuits past my head. So you see my memory for crazy things is in tact. It was allot to take in for a teenager and I think at the time I would have sounded crazy if I had spoken about it.

In those days you just couldn't. I know it did happen and there were 4 people involved. I will ask my older brother some day but he's got allot to deal with and he has a nervous condition.

I really don't want to push him but will ask soon.

Looks like a Star Wars ship,without the top, smooth, silent, no lights, large and low to the ground. Old UFO report. This sighting occurred in the early 1970's on River Road in Wilmington, NC around 2 am in the morning.

I am reporting it now because I am older and have heard of similar objects being seen on UFO tv reports. So what the heck, I'll tell what I saw and maybe it will do some good. I was in my convertible traveling north along River Road about 2 am.

It was a clear night and the stars where out, no fog or clouds. Then a very large craft came over the trees, I was very scared and thought 'what if I'm abducted'. I pulled my car over so as not to draw attention to myself.

It was massive, about the width and length of a football field. The shape reminded me of one of those Star Wars big star ships like the one at the beginning of the 1st episode but it didn't have a large top area, it was smooth and triangular, at the end it had 3 very large round engines just like the Star Wars ship. The color was identical to the sky, when it went over me it blacked out the stars but looked like a hole in the sky because of the color match.

It was moving slowly, I'd say not much more than 35 mph and just above the trees, about 120 feet (tree hight 80' plus another 40'). It was dead silent, no noise at all and no lights, no windows that I could see, As it pa! ssed, heading south, that's when I saw its features. I watched until out of sight then got out of there.

I've kept it to myself until recently and then joked I saw a UFO then woke up. But, what the heck, if will do some good or maybe someone else will recognize the description. I wonder what they have been doing all these years.

Obviously not attacking. As I see it, if you have the means to travel like they must, you have access to all the resources you would ever want so mental growth would be more of a priority than desires to acquire things. Hope this helps.

DRIVING HOME WITH SON, Large disk shaped ufo appeared, had flashing lights of red, orange, white, port holes. houvered over trees then moved very fast back and fourth. then took off lighting fast.

A big light bulb that is Lit, but has no light around it (Kinda like a big basketball hovering) A Ball (circle) of Light hovered above in the front of our military Vehicle (Jeep). My working partner awoke me (We were Military police taking a break in the woods at Smith Lake) & pointed to this Light (a Ball that didn't emit light around it but was lit itself) and it just stayed in front of our Jeep. It slowly came toward us so my partner cranked the Jeep up & was backing up as it came toward us & suddenly took off toward the left sky at an unbeleivable speed.

I say that because it was still seen in the far far left part of the horizon & just dissapeared. Our Radio was abuzz at this time with other units calling in about seeing UFO's. A call came in over the radio for all units to return to the Station.

When all units returned (2 man unit patrols in Vehicles) we ware suprised to see the head of Military Police there. (it was the wee hour of the morning) We were told : Anyone disscuss, or talk about this night would receive an immediate "article 15" (punishment consisting of money taken & possible confinment & extra work). We were dismissed & returned to our patroling duties.

From that time to now, that has bothered me & seeing something close to what I KNOW I & someone else saw.I'm very very curious. The last time I saw my partner was in Germany during the Kuwait Invasion.
