North Carolina UFO Sightings in 1973

Landing lights,lights around the object top and bottom, no noise,very fast and hovered. Three friends and I were camping out during a deer hunt. Our camp was situated on a mountain side that had been prepared by the wildlife service.

It was graded out of the side of the mountain. We were just finishing up dinner when one of the guys said, what is that and he pointed down in the valley toward the road. He asked me if that was an airplane because I am a licenced pilot.

It looked exactly like a small plane trying to land with its landing light on. All of a sudden it stopped and seemed to appear right in front of us about a mile away. My distances are not going to be accurate.

It appeared to be about 500 feet above the ground which would make it just about even with us. When it appeared there was no landing light but it was surrounded with round light that were very bright. It seemed that the top lights were smaller in circumfrance than the bottom lights.

There was no definite shape to the craft but it appeared to be saucer shaped with a bubble shaped top. It seemed alot like CE-1 Vallee: I that is why I'm saying something about my sighting now after all these years. What is a little curious is the fact that we waited for the object the next night and it appeared in exactly the same place but with no landing light, it just seemed to come from the northwest if i remember right and hovered for 30 minutes then left in the blink of an eye you might say.

We went down to where I thought it was hovering but found nothing. We left the same day. I've never seen anything like it again but sure would like to, it was very exciting.

A large nocturnal bluish-green oval seen by tens of thousands. One October night back in 1973, my father, sister and I were going to find the location of the local charity haunted house in the Queens Road area. I was 7 at the time and was interested in space and any kind of airplane.

I was actually mad that I had to leave the house that night because of a report that I saw that was coming on NBC Nightly News with John Chancellor that I wanted to see. The report was on the flap in Mississippi at the same time. Subsequently, we found the haunted house and drove by, not stopping to go in, when we turned around to go home and saw a huge bluish-green oval in the sky.

People in their cars were looking up and pointing to it. We followed in the general direction of the craft and turned into a neighborhood off Archdale Dr. near Park Rd Park.

As we approached a group of trees in a front yard the object seemed to turn and as we cleared the trees the object had vanished. From that point on I have studied the subject intensely. I currently work at CDI Airport and am familiar with all sorts of aircraft.

It was no aircraft, civilian or military, that I have seen then or since. It wasn't a weather balloon, temperature inversion, searchlight, swamp gas, Venus or a "mass hallucination" (my favorite BS explanation). Half of the city reported it that night and I am absolutely certain of what it was that we saw.

Missing Time and Military Helicopter My son was about 1 year old and it was one of the normal evenings when my husband was "out in the field". He was often gone for up to two months at a time, and I felt quite at ease being alone. It was late fall, but the temperature outside was nice enough for me to be able to go outside in my shorts.

The "Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson was just going off the air and I was sitting down to watch the "Tomorrow Show" with Tom Snyder. I remember this night because it was the premiere episode. October 15th, 1973.

I could hear a beeping noise coming from outside and thought that it might have been one of the electrical transformers, so I went outside to see if I could find it. There was not a hint of a breeze in the night air and it was fairly cool out. There seemed to be no noise except the beeping.

I stood in the yard for a couple of minutes just listening, and then I heard a police siren coming my direction from the main road. I went to the north side of the house to try to see what was happening but was blocked by all the pine trees. Then I heard a helicopter coming from a distance and that was when I noticed strange lights fairly low to the ground to my east.

There should have been no lights in that direction because there was nothing that way except ten to fifteen miles of forest. I walked down the street about 4 houses to see the main road behind the house and watched as something zoomed by. It was just above the tree line, about 40 feet in the air, and was traveling so fast I couldn’t tell anything specific about it other than it was very well lit.

The 2 police cars zoomed by headed south following whatever was flying in front of them. Then came the helicopter. They stopped about a mile down the road, turned off their lights and returned in the direction of Ft.

Bragg. I turned around to see the lights in the forest and they were still in the same spot. That was when they lifted to just above tree height and then blinked out.

I had no re! ason to be frightened but ran back in to the house anyway. That was when I noticed that the television station had gone off the air. The "Tomorrow Show" should have still been on because I had only been outside for maybe five minutes.

I checked the clock and it was now nearly two in the morning. The show came on at 12:30 and went off at 1:30. What had happened to that hour and a half?.

Me and my brother was coming home from a friend's house and we saw a red flashing light what liked to be over a friends house. After a few minutes we determined that is was not that's when my brother went into the house. I stayed and lit a cigarette while I was watching this light it started to move left and right very fast witch I thought was strange.

It then started to come toward me and I then thought it was a plane. I was about to walk into the house and everything changed. I did not look up but all around was a red light and it was blinking red and bright red in a perfect circle about 40 feet across would be my best guess.

I then held my hand out so see this light light my hands and that's when I looked up. It was a sphere and it had low humming sound. At that time I was not afraid so kept watching it then made a different sound and started to lower just above my grand mother home and a yellow light came on under it and started to move close to me that scared so I ran under the branches of the tree in our front yard.

The light stopped moving so I ran to the front door while still watching this object. I then open the door taking my eyes off for just a second to tell my mom to look at this when looked back it was gone never saw it again.

Saw a UFO outside of house hovering over my head and exited so fast, looked t like a streak of lightning. A dog had knocked over trash can again. So, I jumped up in my pajamas barefoot and ran outside chasing dog down the street.

Walking back home I started walking up our very steep paved driveway and something , I'm not sure what made me look up. A very large silver/gray UFO was just hovering over my head not making any noise at all. I was like in a trance and just kept staring at it.

I, also pinched my leg twice really hard to make sure I wasn't dreaming. I only saw the bottom of it for I was too scared to move. It had like 4 or 5 big LED round lights.

They were not bright at all, but, dull. It just stayed there not moving at all. The surface was very smooth and not real shiny.

Then without a sound it left All I saw was a trail looking like a long streak of lightning across the sky for as far as I could see. I talked to myself the whole time saying out loud what I was seeing. But, the shock and my moms reaction when I ran inside kept me from remembering.

I have wanted to get hypnotized to see if I could remember things more clearly. I never have talked about it till about 10 years ago or less. I really want to remember more.

Huge, clearly- defined saucer hovers at treetops I was a teenager & watching TV when I heard what sounded like a huge vacuum cleaner ououtside. I went out & saw a huge saucer -about the size of a football field- hovering just above the woods. We lived in the county about 3 miles from the small airport.

The UFO was huge, made a humming, vacuum sound, domed on top & bottom with rotating lights around both domes & around the middle, except the lights around the middle didn't rotate but seemed to flash randomly. I felt no fear, just awe. I ran into the house & got my mother so she could see it & she did.

Being mechanically-minded I focused on the sound of the craft to try to determine its power source & was very conscious to pay attention to details of appearance. I took a Polaroid picture after getting my mother but it didn't take. The photo background was brownish-black with 3 scarlet red smears in the center.

I don't know what happened to the photo but now think the red smears were heat indicators. I've drawn this craft several times over the years & keep one with me in case I run into someone who claims to have seen the same thing. I was intelligent & didn't use drugs.

I saw this craft, I am not crazy, & I have been trying to figure out its power source for 29 years. I am a technical mechanical engineer by trade & now have a pretty good idea about the craft's power source. I believe there's a reason some of us see these things & some don't.

I don't know what that reason is but I know that my life changed when I saw that UFO & feel there was a purpose for it. Maybe submitting this report is the reason. If anyone from this area also saw this, please submit your report.

My wife and I were sitting at ground level on the back steps of a beach house in Nags Head, when we observed the aura of a pulsing green light over the ocean horizon, about seven miles distant. The apparent size of the aura at that distance was about an inch across. The light moved from the south extreme horizon to the north extreme horizon within five seconds.

It then reversed direction and moved south to the extreme horizon at the same speed. It then re-centered and vanished. There was no sound.

late at nite, huge object, hovered about 50 ft. above ground. saw windows on the bottom.

with orange glow eminating from windows . Experienced by my co-worker, Steve. It happened, he went for a drive with his wife and 7 yr.

old daughter. They drove near a car-wash on , I guess a back street. Steve said he saw thiss thing floating about 50 feet up in the air.

He stopped his car beneath this thing.Steve got out under this thing. He describes it as follows.

It was a very very dark nite. As I drove by the car wash, I could see this thing, about 50 feet in the air. It was making no noise.

at first, I only law a circle about 25 feet in diameter. at approximately a 90 degree angle from the bottom of the circle, I could windows, with and orange amber glow coming from them.The windows connected to the bottom of this huge thing, that was as big as a football field.

I listened for a sound and heard nothing, but was completely AWE STRUCK . I saw, what looked like scorch marks on the bottom where the windows connected to the bottom to this huge ship. My wife screamed out to me, Steve, get back in the car.

I came back to my senses. Unbelievablelythis object, moved slowly at first, , then ziiiiiiippppp, it moved about 2 miles in a couple of seconds. It stopped right above a small mountain and zipped, very fast over them, about 5 miles away towards some other mountains, paused and moved out of site.

My friend Steve, a co-worked told me this. He and his wife is now divorvced and he has remarried. His new wife did'nt believe him.

He went thru a nasty divorce, but to this day, his ex backs him up with this story. Steve can really tell u the details better than I can.

My Aunt, Uncle, and myself witnessed an oval UFO while traveling in Uncles car. I was a passenger in my aunt and uncle's car and we were either driving to or returning from (I thougnt we were going out to eat and aunt says we were on our way back from) Winston Salem NC, where we were going out to eat. We were on old Winston Rd.

when my uncle slowed the car down, this got my attention. There were several cars in front of ours that was also stopped. Directly in front of us and located above the trees was this hugh UFO.

It was metal in color. It had round windows all around the craft with light coming out of it, several colors. It was silent.

It defied physics in that it stayed perfectly still, as it set in the air just above the trees, centered over the two lane road we were on. In moments, it lifted up and dissapeared from our eyes in phenominal speed, again, no noise. The traffic then began to move on out.

Young boy spots UFO in North Carolina. The craft was Huge and cigar shaped and covered in multi colored lights. The craft it self was a metalic or silver grey.

At that time I was about 6 or 7 years old at the time. I was in my second floor bedroom at time looking out the window,it looked bigger than the house. I was scared to death I have never seen anything like before or since.

I never told anybody before until recently because I was afraid nobody would beleave me. I was also fasinated by it a lot but I did not Know to do about it. Thank you for hearing my story it is a relief to finally be able to tell some one who might beleave me.

UNKOWN BRIGHT LIGHT-1973 NORTH CAROLINA ON OR ABOUT THE EVENING IN THE YEAR 1973(DURING THE PASSING OF THE COMET KAHOTECK NEAR EARTH) MY SISTER CALLED ME FROM MY BEDROOM YELLING "UFO, UFO!!". I WENT OUTSIDE AND TO THE SSW WE (THAT IS MYSELF, SISTER AND OUR MOTHER) SAW A BRIGHT LIGHT, AS BRIGHT AS AN WELDERS ARC. THE LIGHT ASCENDED AND DESCENED SERVERAL TIMES BEHIND A GROUP OF TREES AND EVERY MINUTE OR SO WOULD BECOME BRIGHTER OR DIMMER.

THERE WAS NO NOISE WHAT SO EVER AND AFTER 1/2 HOUR IT DESECNDED BEHIND THE TREES AND WE NEVER SAW IT AGAIN. SCENCE THERE WAS STILL ENOUGHT LIGHT TO SEE BY I OBSERVED IT CLOSELY AND CONCLUDED THAT IT WAS NO AIRCRAFT OF ANY KIND NOR A FLARE, HELICOPTER, OR ANY OTHER KNOWN OBJECT WE COULD IDENTIFY, IT WAS NOT THE COMET SINCE COMET DON'T MOVE IN A VERTICAL LINE, SO TO THIS DAY I CLASSIFY IT AS A U.F.

Saw a fast moving light that perfomed an instantanious 90 degree turn and disappeared shortly thereafter. I was going to my car to leave for work at the hospital. As usual at night, I looked up to the stars for a minute.

I noted a light coming from my left moving fast. The light continued until it was approximately overhead or slightly to my right. It then did an 90 degree turn to its left and continued until in disappeared a couple of seconds later.
