Yellow-Orange soccer ball sized sphere photographed in my backyard. I am a very amateur photographer and enjoy viewing and photographing wildlife. We live in a cul-de-sac with a thick pine and hardwood forest behind us.
I had purchased my first digital camera in 1998. It was a Olympus D500L. It had only .
85 Megapixel (850K Pixels). The aperture and shutter speed are automatic. Although small by today's standards the camera took great pictures but digital zoom was very limited.
The camera software allowed the camera to be controlled by a computer. I wrote a program to allow it to interface with the camera software so I could remotely take pictures in the early morning hours of my backyard and forest behind my workshop. I had the camera take a picture thru the rear window of my workshop every minute for about two hours every morning beginning well before daylight.
Although I didn't get many pictures of wildlife which I theorized later was because of the red LED which flashed on the front of the camera while a picture was being processed. I think this spooked the wildlife but thinking back it attracted something else. At the time I was taking the pictures I had never heard of BOLs (Balls of Light).
I was however an avid UFO skeptic with an open mind. On or about December 16, 1999 I was reviewing the pics taken that morning and came across two sequential pics with a bright orange-yellow sphere the size of a soccer ball. I later assumed it to be a sphere rather than a flat round object turned on its end.
The coloration was uniform and pixelized on its border. The object was only eight to ten feet from the camera. The first pic was taken in front of a large pine tree which made it possible to judge the size.
The second pic taken one minute later. The object had moved about two feet to the right and up about a foot. My first impression was fireflies (lightning bugs).
I soon discounted this because of the brightness of the object. Even with the aperture wide open and a slow shutter speed I do not believe the camera would flare the light of the firefly to the size of a soccer ball. My second theory was that it was a reflection from car headlights on the window of a neighbor leaving for work.
I soon discounted this as no possible reflection could get to the rear window of my shop because it was well behind any other homes in the area. I finally gave up and deleted the pics thinking the objects were some kind of camera bug being that digital cameras were so new. (FYI, about 2009 the forest was timbered behind my house.
) A few months after deleting the pics I was reading about crop circles and BOLs. A shiver went down my spine as I new at that moment from my perspective that I had deleted two very rare photos. I obtained file retrieval software in order to recall the pics but to no avail.
I did however retrieve exact pics but without the objects. I still have this camera and its successor, the D620L (1.4 MP).
Both are in great working order and hope to set up the camera again in the hope of resolving this mystery. ((NUFORC Note: Witness indicates that the date of the sighting is approximate. PD)).

I 1st saw it while heading no. on int. 17 in woodville and followed it all the way to weeksville.
it was NOT a plane, OR a helicopter. I was headed NO. on U.
S. 17, coming home from work at approx. 5:45 p.
m., just past twilight, when I first noticed it in the sky. At 1st glance, I thought I was looking at a helicopter, because it was so low to the ground and moving at a low rate of speed; (at 60 m.
p.h., I was able to keep up with it.
) It maintained a position just ahead of me and to the right about a mile away, maybe 300' in the air. as I continued to watch it. I noticed that it had an elongated diamond shape () and lights that were not at all recognizable as navigation lights.
The end points had continuously burning amber lights, while the top and bottom points were bright white and strobed in a fashion similar to those on an ambu- lance. As I got closer to my turn off, I noticed it was veering away from it's parallel course to me and taking a more southerly course, but still maintaining its slow pace. Approx.
9 miles after 1st spotting it, I turned so. on Halls Creek rd., and, as luck would have it, I was still hot on it's trail, following Halls Creek due south, as it moved east.
I drove the length of the rd. (4.5 mi.
) and came to a "T" intersection. I turned left onto Pitts Chapel Rd. with i t still in clear view, so I de- cided to pull off the rd.
and get out to get a good look at it. I was able to watch it un obstructed by trees for approx 30 sec. at 1st, it simply did what it had been doing all along.
proceeding slowly, steadi- ly east, but just before it disappeared behind the woods, it did some- thing truly astounding that took away any doubt that it was a genuine ufo; although the craft never once wobbled, pitched or yawled, it did make some radical rising and dipping maneuveres. I KNEW then I was onto something extraordinary. MY pulse racing now, I pushed my car to its max trying to get as close to the object as I possibly could, turning on 4 different roads, over another 8-9 mile stretch, until I found a gravel rd.
which turned off the paved rd. in the same direction of the craft. By this time (6:20-6:30pm), the sky was almost completely dark, and as I proceeded down the unfamiliar path, I noticed that the ufo had stopped about 1/2 mile away and hovering roughly 2-300 feet above the trees, I was awstruck by this monumental sight.
Finally on solid, stationary ground, I watched it hover over the trees, occasionally darting side-to- side, and up and down in a floating kind of way. I found myself debating whether I could make it home to get my camcorder, but I was afraid that it would be gone for good, so I stayed there to take in the entire ex- perience. It stayed right there above the trees for several minutes, until finally, the four corners of the craft appeared to pull toward the center and consolidate, just before accelerating away from me to dis- appear beyond the tree line.
I tried to resume chase, but lost all sight of it. I don't know what it was, but I do know for a fact that it absolutely was NOT a fixed-wing or rotary aircraft of ANY kind.and I can only hope that someone else saw it or video-taped it.
I will never forget it as long as I live.

Birght, yellowish-orange, cigar shaped object over Sunset Ave./ Business 64 exit in Rocky mount, NC. My experience happened in 1999.
October or November of 1999 to be exact. I never reported it before because I never really told anyone about it before. I thought people would think I was crazy for claiming I saw a UFO.
To this day, even though I saw one, and I know what I saw, I don't believe anyone when they say they've seen one. That being said, here is my experience. I was living in Raleigh, North Carolina.
My job was in Rocky Mount, North Carolina NE of Raleigh. This night I was driving to Rocky Mount to stay at my parents house because I had to wake up really early the next morning. Since I was going to be in town a friend and I decided to get some dinner.
I was driving to the restaurant on highway 64 going east. I had just passed the Nashville exit when I saw a long, thin yellowish-orange light just above the tree line. It was insanely bright and perfectly still in the air.
It looked to be about three or four football fields long. Maybe even longer. I seemed to be about 10 miles from it so I knew this thing was huge.
I watched it as I drove down the highway occasionally losing it behind some trees as the highway curved. The whole I was watching this thing and driving, I ran down a list of things it could possibly be. The list included a blimp, which it couldn't have been because it was too big and perfectly still, it wasn't the hospital that I was going to be passing because it was to high in the air and the hospital is the tallest building in Rocky Mount but not that tall, and I was absolutely certain it wasn't a plane.
It was to big, to bright, and motionless. The last time I lost it behind some trees was the last time I saw it. I must have had my view of it blocked for 10 or 15 seconds maximum, but when the part of the sky it was in came into view again it was gone.
I would have seen it fly away but didn't. In a matter of seconds I was under where it was floating on a clear sky so I would have seen it if it was still there but turned the lights off. I pulled over at the exit, again, pretty much right underneath where it was.
I was looking up and noticed to small, fast moving planes flying in from the SE. These were obviously fighter jets flying in formation from, I am assuming, Cherry Point, which is an Air Force base SE of Rocky Mount. The two jets circled, in formation, pretty much in the same spot the object was and flew away, back toward the SE.
I rolled my window up, put the car in gear, went to dinner and haven't spoken much of it since.

TRIANGULAR MOVEMENT OF TWO LIGHTS OVER ASHEVILLE, NC We were seated on a moutain overlooking the city of Ashville. It was night, and very cold. We decided to wrap ourselves in a pile of blankets and watch the characteristic "smoke" enter the valley below.
As the mist covered the city, and all we could see was ambient light, our gaze shifted upward to the stars. At first, we thought that what we saw was simply a star until it moved in a triangular pattern. It was a red/blue light that was about 4-5 miles away, high above the city below.
Scared, we ran to our car for shelter. Our two dogs that we had with us suddenly became silent.and believe me they had been fussing most of the night until this light appeared.
Once inside the car, another light, yellow and green hovered to the west of where we were looking. This was about 500 yards away. It hovered behind the treeline and then above it.
It moved in the same triangle pattern as the other light. We locked the doors and watched for about 3-4 hours more before passing out of exhaustion. I do recall feeling like my mind was being read, and as I thought this my friend asked me if I felt as though I were being scanned.
WE WERE NOT ON DRUGS AND ARE BOTH CHRISTIANS BUT I MUST SAY THAT THIS EVENT HAS HAUNTED ME EVER SINCE. WE NEVER SPEAK OF THIS INSTANCE SINCE WAKING IN THE EARLY DAWN. WE CONFRIMED OUR SIGHTING TO EACH OTHER AND THEN DROPPED IT.
My research has uncovered the mystery surrounding the "Brown Mountain Lights" that US Geological teams have investigated with NO results. What the hell were these lights?????.

I was traveling south when I saw a blue-green light with an orange-yellow tail come from the sky in an east to west direction. It disappeared behind a gathering of trees to my right. I had left the local library at 8:00 p.
m. and was traveling home along a rural road. I was heading south when I saw a blu-green ball of light with a long yellow-orange tail come from the sky and fall behind some trees to my right.
I am not a good judge of distance, but it was close enough for me to see that it was not a star. It did remind me of the light from a large roman candle, however, this light came from the sky, and not the ground When I returned home, I mentioned this incident to my husband who shrugged it off as a meteor, however, the fact that it was blue made no sense to me. That evening I got chills down my spine when I heard Peter Davenport come on the Art Bell show and share that this ball of light was seen from Florida to North Carolina.
I am a 33 year old stay-at-home mom who has never seen any resemblance of a UFO ever! However, what I saw was certainly something I could not identify.

Approx. 6-8 jets in sky. @ bright shining objects like small stars standing still.
As one jet moved toward them, one moved away at a much greater speed and both disapeared. My 15 year old son and myself were at a local shopping center around 6:00 pm on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999.
It was still daylight. WE had noticed and mentioned that there was a lot of jets in the sky, All in the East sky near the horizon. Approx.
6-8. When we got out of our vehicle in the parking lot of the store, we noticed what looked to be two small yet very bright stars, If you were looking at the sky as a painting you could say that they were about 2" apart. I hope that this is a reasonable discription.
I know that it was many miles apart in reality. The jets were leaving a short trail behind them and seem to be moving very fast. They were very high in the sky and seemed to be about the same heighth in the sky as the two still objects.
As one of the jets got closer to the first object, the one on the left just disapeared and the one on the right moved to my left and away from the jet at a much greater speed than the jet ( many times faster ).

Objects travelling westward, bright lights revovling. I live in a area that is in a major flight path, so I know the what a number of planes look like. This morning before the sun was up, I saw 2 objects travelling westward above the trees.
The had revolving lights that were red & white, some appeared to be VERY bright as they seemed to be moving in a pattern around the objects. They also seemed to be travelling way to slow to be a plane (no noise could be heard). I watched them until I couldn't see them anymore they disappeared over the horizon.
I also noticed a plane very far up in the sky as it was leaving a contrail. If I held my thumb up to one of them it was actually twice the size in width. Did anyone else notice these in the sky? I am a professional Graphic Designer with a major company.

Huge fireball with long tail of fire, streaming across the road in front of me. A fireball, burning brightly orange with a tail of fire, shot across the road in front of me. My husband was awakened as I slapped his chest with my hand as I was standing on the brakes trying to stop the car.
The fireball came from the east and moved horizontal to the west. I was on hwy 21 going south and I watched it cross over I-77, clearing the tree line and one of the foothills that we have in our area. The Fireball was about the size of those blue plastic kiddy pools.
The fire trail behind it looked to be about 8ft long. It appeared so fast but it took a bit longer to disappear because the viewing area was not blocked by objects. I do not scare very easily, I am a retired Nurse and I am trained to be observant, however this thing had me so upset that I sat in the middle of the road for several minutes before I could calm down enough to drive.
I honestly thought that it was going to hit us when I first got a glimpse of the fire from my peripheral vision! . The fireball looked so close but it had to be several miles up or the heat of it would have started fires along its path, as it zipped by. ((NUFORC Note: Witness indicates that date of sighting is approximate.

There are five or more lighted objects that are spaced apart from one another and they are sparkling with multi-colors. In the direction we were standing there were three objects in NW area toward Tennessee and two east of our position toward Virginia, a couple of them have moved up and down slowly and then returned to there last position. The light toward the east is much brighter than the others and appears to be sparkling with more colors than the others.
((NUFORC Note: Report is not inconsistent with multiple twinkling stars, in our opinion.)).

Cigar shaped craft seen over my home town being chased by a formation of fighter pilots. I have no outstanding credentials that might account for what i saw but here it is. One sunny clear afternoon in Charlotte, North Carolina, I was driving in my car.
I was on my way home from my ex-girlfriend's house. She lives in a town close to Charlotte. So I'm traveling on the outskirts of Charlotte on a rural road.
There are farms and fields all around. I'm driving along and I notice a formation of what appear to be F-16 fighter pilots. It's not everyday you see a squadron over a populated area.
And at such a low altitude. I'm no pilot, but i would have guessed their altitude to be approximately 5000 feet. Anyway, i'm watching these pilots fly off to the west and out of my view.
I drive a few more miles down the road, thinking of what they could possibly be doing out of charlotte and then i see them again. Only this time they're flying back from the west heading east. By this time I'm thinking, "Hey wouldn't it be cool if there was a UFO in the area.
" Well by now I'm getting really close to my neighborhood (about 3 miles). I approach the crest of this hill and on my way down the other side of the hill, I look a few miles down the road. There it was.
I huge cigar-shaped craft. This craft resembled the fuselage of a regular passenger aircraft but it was much bigger and longer than your average airplane. At first i thought i was seeing things, thinking that it may be a blimp, but this was no blimp.
Blimps are oblonged shaped, looking much like an egg in shape. So now I'm about 2 miles from my neighborhood. Keep in mind this is a very populated area of south Charlotte.
At this point I'm driving like moron trying to avoid an accident while watching this craft. I watch it ( at first it was motionless) but it starts to head east very slowly. i watch it until it disappears over the into the trees.
I continue driving, trying to look for it as i approach the aboretum (a.k.a.
a very large shpping area). I turn right onto Highway 51 in the direction the craft disappeared to and i was thinking, "Okay, I'm goi! ng to se e it again." But to my reluctance i did not.
Finally I get to my neighborhood. I immediately called my ex to tell her what i saw. After i told her about it she said she saw those fighter pilots for a while flying over her town of Monroe, NC.
Now I'm stading outside, talking to her on the phone. Suddenly i hear what sounds like thunder(even louder). I look up to see an F-16 doing an intense maneuver directly over my neighborhood.
I waited 5 more minutes to see it again. But i never did see the cigar shaped craft again that day. Later that night, I talked to some of my friends.
After i told them what had happened they said that earlier in the day some people had called a one of the local rock stations to and were reporting UFOS over Charlotte. To this day I wonder about UFOS and after what I saw would like to know what the military was doing over the skies of my town.
