A comet shaped object, with a bright tail vanishing to a spot We were coming back from Las Vegas to San Diego and we saw this thing, comet shaped, injecting a fire kind of light at the tail. It was there in the sky for approximately 5 minutes, and moving but it left no trail. The injection of the fire kind of thing vanished gradually in +/- 30 sec to a black dot.

And the sky was clear as if it was never there. Surprisingly the light or the fire was so bright that it was noticable even at 2:00 in the afternoon. We managed to get a couple of pictures of this thing.

((FOLLOW-UP FROM WITNESS)) Hallo Mr. Davenport, Thanks for your reply. But I am almost sure that it is not a jet trail and hence some more clarification would be appreciated.

The reason is that I have been in India near a Military base and have seen lots of jet trails and that's why I am so sure of the fact that it cannot be a jet trail. I have seen the jet trails from lots of aircrafts and am a regular watcher of Wings. So I would really appreciate some more explanation if you could provide so.

Also as I mentioned it vanished from the air in less than a minute which is quite unlikely for a jet trail since they persist for a longer duration because of the density differences of the water which is ejected out and the atmosphere. Thanks and regards ((name deleted)) ((END)).

I didnt even notice the craft until I got home, Must have been crusing extremely fast. I was taking a picture at the Luxor Hotel and I didnt even notice the craft until I got home from my honeymoon and saw the picture on my digital camera ((NUFORC Note: We have viewed the still image, and we believe the small, dark, blurred object is not inconsistent with a bird in flight, perhaps a pigeon or dove. However, we cannot be certain, and our theory is mostly surmise.

Two white lights in the daytime sky I was outside of the building I work in and heard a helicoptor flying nearby. When I looked up to see where it was I noticed what I first thought to be a airliner flying at high altitude from east to west. When it stopped and appeared to be falling i realised it was not an airliner but a dot of light instead.

It seamed to be falling for about ten to fifteen seconds when it suddenly moved back to the west very fast. That is when I noticed a second dot of light that the first had moved to and stopped. Both dots of light were stationary at that point and did not appear to be changing altitude.

I called my co-workers to come and look but the dots seemed to slowly gain altitude and fade away before they were able to spot them. I was a clear day with scattered light clouds and excellent visibility at the time. It should also be noted that I am a former air defense crew member and have had extensive aircraft recognition training.

Top secret "X-craft" flights may be occurring in remote, rural areas well outside test facilities. Incident: Gigantic "Stealth" Object Encountered Near Halleck, Nevada Date: Late Nov./Early Dec 2002 Location: Hwy.

229, 10 mi. SE of Interstate 80, 25 mi. ENE of Elko, NV (Elko County) Number of witnesses: 1 Description: Shape, Size, Altitude, Speed of object all unknown; No discernable features, no lights, just black void in sky casting giant shadow on ground.

Witness account: Between 12:30am and 1:00am on a Saturday night in late November or early December of 2002 (not sure of exact date), I was driving my truck northwest on Nevada State Highway 229 just a mile or two north of the Lamoille/Ft. Halleck Road (dirt), from which I had just exited. I was scouting out good vantage points for nighttime photography of the Ruby Mountains, the west slopes of which were now about 7 miles behind me.

Under a mostly clear sky with a bright moon, I was cruising very slowly along the road, stopping occasionally to glance back and evaluate the panorama for good shooting locations. This was perfectly safe to do because the road has an EXTREMELY low volume of traffic, especially at night. As it turned out, on this particular night I encountered no other vehicles on the road.

Hwy. 229 is used primarily for access to local ranches and to the Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge (about 60-70 miles south and lying on the east side of the Ruby Range), and for all practical purposes would give a first-time visitor the impression of being a closed but well maintained seasonal road. I had just descended into a shallow "dip" in the landscape about a half-mile across and then came to a complete stop.

I turned off my lights so I could better view the full distance behind me under moonlight, and left my engine running just in case I had to quickly clear the way for any approaching traffic. My truck windows are heavily tinted, preventing one from getting a crystal clear view of distant nighttime surroundings. Since it wasn't too frigid outside, I rolled down my driver's side window to look back toward the mountains and see if any light pollution was visible from rural homes or ranches.

However, this only gave me a good view of everything on my side of the truck, so I had to alternately look through the back window to see the land to the rear and rear right. While I was turned to my right and looking out the rear window, I became aware that the bright moonlight I had been bathed in all night was suddenly not there. As I described to a friend recently, what happened during the next few seconds was a lightning fast series of thought processes and internal debates with myself in trying to rationalize why the moonlight was gone when no clouds were present to obstruct it.

At no time was I in a panic. Everything happened too fast for me to develop any sense of fear about the situation. Maybe it was because I was preoccupied with my scouting mission and not dwelling on thoughts of being all alone and vulnerable out in the middle of "J.

S. Nowhere." I guess my first reaction was to look up through the rear window thinking I might spot a large owl or other nocturnal bird of prey, which had swooped down low over the truck.

I saw nothing . and I mean NOTHING . no moon .

no stars . just pitch black. However, the shadow covering me persisted.

I shifted my eyes downward onto the landscape behind me and could see a sharp outer boundary of the shadow about 1/8 of a mile back down the road (beyond that, the land was visibly lit by the moon). I then spun around and looked out my open driver's window to see the western boundary of the shadow, about 100 yards away, moving at a brisk pace toward me. So whatever was casting this shadow was moving west to east.

I stuck my head out the window and looked up, but I saw absolutely no discernable shape; just a mysterious mass of darkness the size or altitude of which I simply could not determine. In the span of about 15 seconds, the shadow moved across the area where I was parked and disappeared over a low hill to the east side of the highway. The moonlight now once again flooded the truck and immediate surroundings.

Not having seen or heard the source of the shadow (my truck engine remained running during the incident), I have absolutely no idea how big or how high the object was or how fast it was moving. All I know is that it was huge enough to cast a shadow I estimate to have been up to 1/4 mile across and moving about 30 - 40 miles per hour. The odd thing about this whole experience is that I never felt frightened or in any kind of danger.

I knew that something strange had just happened, but didn't really fathom the weirdness of it until sometime later. In fact, I was only recently prompted to report this experience. All the above is fact as I remember it.

Now for the conjecture. My belief is that the object was some sort of experimental aircraft, perhaps a mega-sized "stealth blimp" much like that reported numerous times since the early `90s. I believe one of the most famous sightings of such a craft occurred just a few years ago in southern Illinois.

It was reported by several policemen, who tracked it into Missouri. If what I witnessed (or didn't witness) was some kind of experimental military craft, it was far from any test facility, where you'd expect to find such a vehicle. Could it be that developers wanted to see how far out of the safe zone they could fly this thing without being spotted by the citizenry? Unless someone else saw it before I did, then the testers succeeded in flying the device some 300 miles from the nearest test site - the Nellis Test Range (part of which is better known as "Area 51")- before it was spotted .

or at least detected by yours truly. Even if anyone else on the ground experienced what I did that night, they were probably just as perplexed as I when they looked up and couldn't see any definite, solid object in the sky above. So my question to readers is whether or not anyone else has encountered such a virtually invisible object elsewhere in Nevada or any other place.

One interesting sidenote to this: Just recently, I caught the tail end of a radio news report about an "unknown, unauthorized aircraft" flying low and disturbing livestock on ranchland in the Crescent Valley area (90 miles SW of where my encounter took place). I didn't get enough details about that particular sighting, but I gathered from the story that it was a follow-up to a previous report from some weeks prior. I'm now wondering if that sighting actually occurred the same night as mine.

If there is anyone out there, especially in the Elko, Carlin or Crescent Valley area, who might have more info about the other sighting, I'd like to know so I could follow up and maybe start piecing together the puzzle. If this is indeed some kind of stealth blimp, how big could it possibly be . and why would it be so big? ((NUFORC Note: Date may be approximate.

loud noise comes from cigar shaped cloud hovering over my house 0815: awakened by VERY LOUD NOISE (deep, rumbling sound a very large object would make while hovering--noise pulsated at the lowest audible decibel level) which was coming from a long, cigar-shaped cloud hovering over my house. the clouds appeared to be at the 10,000+ elevation and the wind was blowing very profusely 0820: let my dogs out to do business--behaved very unusual (whining, barking, growling, running around in circles--not their normal behavior) my cats were also freeking out, running inside under the bed to hide 0825: called my friend as i was concerned--fried could hear the noise over the telephone as i held it outside 0900: sound abruptly ended--all pet behavior returned to normal--cloud (flanked by several smaller clouds--two in front--two to the rear) wind is blowing all other clouds around in the sky except for these five 0930: (aprox) hole opened up in the southern sky. a tan plane (with black stars surrounded by circles under each wing) appeared and flew out of the hole and straight down.

just before it looked like it would crash, plane leveled off and flew directly over my house in a northernly direction 10:00 (aprox) cloud began to move from northwest due east (in direction of nellis air force base) cloud plus four flanking clouds stayed in vicinity for approx 2 1/2 days. was very windy those days. and that wind moved all the other clouds in the sky except for these five 1 month later: business card left at my door from a government agency asking me to contact them at number listed regarding any strange occurances i might hav witnessed.

when i phoned the number, it was a hotel that never had evidence of the guest i was asking for. since december 1996: have observed this SAME cloud configuration on the east side over our backyard. always five clouds.

always accompanied by winds. also saw same cloud configuration in phoenix while visiting in 2000 ((NUFORC Note: One of two reports from same witness. Similar cloud formations can occur in the same area, given that clouds can be the product of similar meteorological conditions, similar ground formations, etc.

UFO shadows observed near Las Veagas , Nevada While traveling south on hwy. 159 from Redrock canyon on a day trip, I observed trree round circular shadows approximately two seconds apart travel up the face of mountains that I beleve to be the ( Nopha Range ) I beleve the range to be from five to ten miles away and approximately five thousand feet high. the diameter of each shadow was estimated to be 3.

5 inches. It took four seconds fore all of them to traverse the face of the mountain and vanish. That same night in my hotel room watching the news on Las Vegas chanel eight it was stated by the commentator that a entertainer physics had predicted that at approximately twelve midnight that same day that viewers could observe UFOS near Silverton.

V shaped Morphed gliding object over the Bellagio Hotel in Vegas Driving on 15 South coming from The Las Vegas racetrack next to Nellis AFB. There was low clouds that day( by low I mean they were about 400 yds above the tip of the Bellagio tower in the center of the building) As we were heading to our hotel on I15 my nephew noticed a strange object gliding next to the freeway at the same level of the clouds going about 30 or 40 mph (or at least that what it seemed like), this made it difficult to see the complete craft, but we could certainly see the V shaped and ballon like lights that morphed and changed shapes. First it was a v shape then it would morphed into a semi straight pattern and then back to V shape.

As we approched traffic we saw how the craft made a turn towards the Bellagio Hotel and went right over the tower in the center of the building and that is when we lost track of it as we were blocked by the building. By compraing the size next to the bellagio hotel and the distance from the building, I would estimate the size to be the entire span or larger than the length of the Bellagio hotel. I am pretty convinced its some type of craft being tested from area 51 and what a better place to test Stealth than the mainstrip in Vegas.

The craft slowly rose over the mountain with a light sweeping slowly side to side. My wife comes in the house saying something strange is outside. She saw it at close range with many strobe-like lights and flying slowly and silently.

She said she could not move until the craft went west over the mountain behind our house,into California .we went outside looking in the direction of the moutain, a few moments went by at which point the craft slowly rose up from behind the mountain with one light shining forward and sweeping very slowly side to side. In the moonlight it had a wok-like silhouette.

The craft moved slowly toward us I began to get concerned,I sent my daughter in the house. The craft then went straigt up and sped off silently East toward las vegas. ((NUFORC Note: Date is approximate.

I was looking up in the night sky, when I noticed some objects moveing of to the left of rio casino. I focused on them thinking they were birds, I relized that the objects were moveing faster than I think birds move. It was the way they moved, jeting back and forth kind of like they were danceing,or playing together in a small pattern.

The color of these object's was kind of silver metallic,or gray. It was hard to tell because of the fact that they jeted around so fast. I would say they were about 1/2 mile up at the most,and egg shaped.

And they stayed in a tight pattern. They never came to complete stop. And they were solid, could not aany lights comeing from them.

You know that vegas has a lot of light and distraction, I just happen to be looking i the right area. To much noise to tell if they're was any sound comeing from them. ((NUFORC Note: Date is approximate.

Very Bright Light in the Western Sky over Hollister, NV on 10/14/02 Not sure it was a craft. Was driving down rt. 93 towards Jackpot, NV at around 8 PM on the 14th of October.

I saw a Very bright light almost hovering, in the western sky, shining down from what appeared to be several miles up, and at first thought it was a helocopter, but no noise. There was a plume of white trailing the light and it was going a little up, not down as a meteor would. The light was very large and then suddening it went out.

The sparkly plume then died out something like a firework would when it's at the end of the display. Then it was gone completely. ((Vandenberg rocket launch.

Las Vegas, UFO sighting? Traveling west on Craig in N.Vegas Nevada, my girlfriend and I witnessed a very large and bright, glowing sphere traveling at fairly high speed in a steep trajectory, emerging over Sunset Mountain. Somewhat like a rocket launching, but with a glowing trail of exhaust and no visible fire coming from the rear.

It was just after dark, there were some clouds visible, but they were not glowing, even though they were in the same area and plane as the object. The object traveled at a constant trajectory for approximately 10 seconds, then appeared to slow dramatically, emitted a bright aura, somewhat like a firework just before the big 'pow,' then appeared to change trajectory and disappear straight up into the clouds. It didn't vanish suddenly.

It was more like it faded out. Like a flashlight in the fog. The glowing trail remained for about 10-15 minutes.

It was extremely bright. It did gradually dissipate. As it did, it emitted several different colors around the edges of the trail.

(Blue, green, purple) The moon was south of us, the object west. They were not close together. I am not a Trekkie or UFO freak, I am only reporting what I saw.

Living near Nellis AFB I have seen many aircraft ranging from the Stealth, to F15's to single props. I have never seen anything as large as this, or traveling in such a manner. The glowing trail and sudden trajectory change to me is unexplainable.

The nearest thing I have seen is a space shuttle launching, but this was much different. There was no visible ship, just a very bright corona/aura. What the hell would the space shuttle be doing in Pahrump, Nevada? Did anyone else see this? It wasn't late and Vegas is a big town.

Surely someone else saw this other than my girlfriend and I. Is there an explanation other than an UFO? ((Vandenberg rocket launch. PD)).

A bright white light trailing a luminous con-trail coming from the south, changing color before blinking out, lasting 25 min. A bright white light trailing a luminous con trail to the horizon, appearing to be approaching from the south. The bright light changed and seemed to be emitting a bright veiled cone of light, before blinking out.

the luminous con trail, and pail blue light hang in the sky for at least 25 minutes, after the event, as the con-trail turned into a snake across the sky, driven by the upper winds.

A small white sphere which stopped, hovered for 5 minutes, then took off and disapeared. I was walking my dog just before the sighting and looked at my watch and it was either 1:35 or 2:35 pm. He distracted me and forgot to check again.

I was looking almost straight up while watching a white jet lay a "chemtrail" going from north to south. It passed overhead and slightly behind it I noticed movement. I saw a small white sphere at high altitude going about half the speed of the jet.

It was travelling east to west. It moved much like a satelite looks at night. When it was almost staight overhead it seemed to slow down.

It came to a dead stop almost directly overhead and stayed there about 5-10 minutes. I ran into my apartment and grabbed a cheap disposable camera and took a picture. Then I ran back in and grabbed my binoculars.

The sphere was still overhead and I tried once to spot it thru the binoculars but failed. I found it again but before I could bring them up to my eyes the sphere started moving west again. It picked up speed for a short way then blinked in and out of my vision about three times and disapeared.

It was a clear blue sky where it was located and I was looking north. It stopped shortly after crossing the north to south chemtrail and seemed to be at a much higher altitude. Size: if I held my hand out at arms length it would be about1/3-1/2 the with of my fingernail.

shiny object went behind cloud, but nevr came out the other side. i was heading north in my dads car and looked to the west and saw a shiny object go behind a cloud. I waited for it to come out of the other side of the cloud to see what it was, but it never came out the other side of the cloud.

I was outside smoking observing the stars, haven't seen stars this clear for a while when I noticed a red with yellow and white object flashing, it caught my attention. It was moving vertical like very fast when all of a sudden it speed up and zigzagged traveling downward, the trail it left looked like a Z shape in a split second it was gone. This particular night was very clear.

This area is very busy with airplane traffic. I am still shaking. ((NUFORC Note: Note error in date.

I was on my way home from work. I was coming up over a small pass about 12 miles North of Reno on Hwy 395, just before the Cold Springs exit when I saw a very large bright red light very low in the sky. It was flashing and moving very fast.

I was so focused on the light I did not see anything else. At first I thought a helicopter was landing on the freeway, then I thought no way, as the light was huge, moving to fast and there was absolutely no sound. The lights flashed across the freeway and up the side of Peavine mountain and disappeared.

It happened so fast I did not see anything but the light.

Midnight Shadow On The Patio With No Visible Reason Why. I did not want to write about an experience that happened two years ago, but I keep wondering about it and thought if I wrote it down maybe the wondering would go away if someone else said "hey, that happened to me." I do not recall the exact date, but it was September near midnight and the hot summer weather was changing.

It was a full moon and I stepped out on my cement patio to feel the cool air. My dogs were up along the fence making their usual last leg lift before coming inside to sleep. They sleep inside because there are coyotes in the neighborhood.

I live 15 miles north and a little east of town. It was bright out and while reaching for a chair I looked down on the white cement and noticed a shadow. It was round.

I looked up and there was nothing up there to be its cause. I looked on the roof -- perhaps a round object was up there that I didn't know about and it was casting a shadow down on the cement. Nothing on the roof.

I looked in the black Locust tree, maybe there was a round nest up there and it was casting a shadow. All I saw was the shape of the tree and a little light coming through branches. It was bright out and I looked up a little to the left of the only tree in my yard.

The moon was there a minute ago and it wasn't. There was no moon -- In the strangeness of the moment, I didn't put that piece into the puzzle until it was all over. I was not frightened.

I looked back down at the round shadow on the patio. Still there and it was about ten feet in diameter. I know because after the event I ran into the house and got a tape measure.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. Again I tried to find an overhead cause for the shadow on the patio and I was looking up and around and I noticed one of my dogs was watching something up in the sky. Every so often he would jump into the air like he was trying to catch something.

I walked around looking up and I walked into the shadow and watching my shadow emerge when I stepped back out. I stood quietly for maybe 45 seconds and I kept my eyes on it. I watched the shadow as it started to move across the patio.

The one older dog, laying near my feet, jumped up and ran into the house and the other dog "followed" the shadow across the yard -- jumping up and down barking. I remember looking all around when it starte to move and I remember seeing the moon, and the shadow slowly moved off the patio down to the ground and the black circle moved slowly across the light colored sand. I was walking behind it and I could see my shadow to my left - on the left side of the shadow.

The silent invisible round what-ever picked up speed, a perfect circle was right there to see and follow and I would have, but I was stopped by my fence. I watched it grow larger as it slithered across the yard and into the street. It was heading west north west.

And then my dog stopped barking and leaping into the air and the shadow that had been on my patio for no more than two or three minutes had moved up and away. Obviously when I first looked up at the full moon it wasn't there because the invisible round craft was between eleven and twelve o'clock position in the night sky and it was blocking my direct line of sight. It blocked the shape of the moon but the object in front of the moon gave itself away by casting a shadow on my patio.

And I think it was close, maybe 50- 80 feet over my head (?) and that is why my dog was leaping into the air trying to catch it --- it was close enough to his senses to "leap up and catch." I saw nothing but a round shadow on the ground and I saw nothing to be the cause. The sky looked bright and normal for a full moon out in the country.

No light pollution. There was no sound except my dog barking and just one other thing. When I went inside to get the tape measure, I noticed my five Koi were racing around their pond.

As usual their covered porch, shades drawn, was in the dark and they should have been sleeping. How did they know there was a noiseless invisible, shadow casting, intruder? And why were they, and one dog upset, and I wasn't?.

Fallon Triangle seen by Ufo Television Talk Show Host Sept. 8 2002 11:13 pm While outside having a smoke I was looking north of 1880 Auction Rd when I saw a dark shadow of substance dimly lit hugh craft fly by at about 1000 feet. This craft traveled west down Williams Ave with no running lights but dimmly lit light nodes were seen but they were Not Lit.

The nodes were in the shape of the whole craft, triangle. Estimate amount of speed I would say 20 mph or faster. No noise was associated with the craft.

I was completely surprised of this event and said why me. I have hosted a Ufo Television talk show for ten years of which Mr. Davenport has been a guest many times.

I believe this was the true and real triangle craft. It was so completely unexpected yet there it was so close and so huge. I did not see a leading edge or rear of craft I just saw a triangle from the side and bottom of the ship.

The sky was clear and about 70 degrees.

Red Glow Streaks Across Southwest -- Crashes to Earth I was working last Tuesday night in Las Vegas. While I was standing outside I saw a strange red glowing object moving southwest to northeast. The object appeared to be spherical but was slightly irregular and it's intensity varied.

It looked like it was spinning or burning but maintained it's trajectory. After watching it for about 5 minutes it suddenly stopped and fell directly to earth. I watched it fall until it disappeared over the horizon above the surrounding buildings.

As it fell it got even brighter, like a large fireball 500-3000 miles away? I have flown small aircraft and know airplanes. I have also spent many nights camping in Nevada's desert and know the difference between airplanes, satellites and meteors. When I saw this I was standing in a brightly lit parking lot in the middle of Las Vegas, certainly someone in Northern Nevada must have seen this? I have not seen anything on the news or in the paper? I'm not sure exactly what it was but it was very unusual.

Any information concerning this or news of a related sighting would be greatly appreciated.

large glowing object over mnts west of vegas. seen by many people located in different areas of the valley. object has been there alot in last few weeks.

It is not in the same spot every night but in the same area. Reported the same by many witnesses. Witnesses were not together at time of sighting, 4 different pairs and two individuals had same type of experiance on different nights.

Appears to be huge and rather in high orbit as you can see the commercial air traffic flying substantially lower than it over the mountains. Object does not move, it appears stationary. Object is not seen flying away, it simply vanishes after 1 hour or more.

No reporting on local news, however many people are actively watching this, nightly. One night I was observing it there was a plane out of Nellis AFB that headed straight for the object in an unusual flight path for them. As it approached the object it vanished.
