Hawaii UFO Sightings in 2002

Three objects originating from the same area moved rapidly in separate directions. As I was looking at the sky directly above me an object appeared high in the sky. The first object first brightened then dimmed (reddish color) then disappeared, this occured over 4 cycles and then remained a constant light.

While it travelled in a direct line at the 2 o'clock position (became white) moving rapidly, much faster than a satellite. It then began to make an s-shape and headed down towards the tree line where we could no longer track it. The second object was a faint white light, and appeared in the same location a minute or two later but followed a straight path down in the 6 o'clock position.

The third object was also a faint white light, that appeared again within a minute of losing sight of the last one, in the same position right above us this object went in a straight 5 o'clock path until we could no longer track it. All three travelled at about the same speed and did not leave a trail. The time was shortly past twilight, clear skies, dark night at Namakani Paio Camp Ground at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

green fireball fall from the sky. We was having party at my back yard, and some of us (3 peoples) saw a "green fireball" fall down from the sky very fast, and was very bright and clear, it was around 9pm at night time. the fireball seems look like round/circle shape.

Array of small white with purple belly lights following eachother in an angle over slleping giant Kapaa HI. It was a normal night and i was crossing my porch to go to my room when I noticed a group of small lights following each other in arrays.They were white with a bit of purple but they couldnt have been airplanes because they werent flashing,unless they were milatary.

They were in a southern direction passing fairly low about 5000ft between Mt. waialeale and the sleeping giant. I told my mother to come and see and she looked and thought it was odd.

She didnt have much to say. The lights were at an angle and looked like they were gaining altitude but in a very even way like if connected by some magnetic force. They then flew past the sleeping giant and for 15 seconds i couldnt see them so i ran around the porch to the east of my house and i faintly saw them because of lihue and kapaas city light.

Now they looked like if they were at about 20,000 ft. They just headed higher and higher eastbound over the ocean until they dissapeared. I didnt mention it for a while but a year later my freind said he saw a group of lights passing eastbound from his house which is about 8 miles north of mine.

He described them the same way traveling in an array. I hope you can tell me what they were I am very interested.

On 8/26/02 at 19:50 a white lighted UFO rapidly approached area over Maui and then procededed eastward. On 8/26/2002 at 7:45pm while driving down the western slope of Haleakala crater in Maui, we stopped about 1/4 mile down the volcano from the Lookout (Science City/observation area) at approximate elevation of 9,500 feet to look at stars and planets. Visability was clear-there was no moonlight and no traffic/other lights for more than 20 miles producing exceptional viewing conditions.

At about 7:50pm plus or minus 5 minutes my 12 yo son and I (49 yo insurance adjuster and investigator and 3rd yearlaw student)while both looking straight up observed what appeared to be a dim to medium brightness star while remaining in fixed position increase in size and brightness over 15-20 seconds to about 4 or 5 times the size and brightness of the brightest object which my son identified as Jupiter. The light was white at all times. We were alarmed at the speed of the approach and that it seemed headed directly toward us (position fixed).

The light was too far out to distinguish shape or size. The object remained stationary a few seconds and then began to dim to the relative size and brightness of surrounding stars. The light then began moving what appeared slowly from directly overhead eastward to 45 degrees (2 minutes elapsed).

The lighted object zigged right (south)a few seconds and then resumed an eastward course for about 2 minutes before disappearing over the rim of the volcano. This was our first sighting of a UFO. ((NUFORC Note: The flash of an Iridium satellite would have been visible from Keokea, HI, near the national park at 19:46 hrs.

Star-sized object shines brightly then disappears after making 30 degree angle turn My wife, 5 year-old daughter and I were outside of our garage, putting something in the back of our car. I happened to look up, as I often do to check for UFO's, and noticed a small dot of light about the size of the surrounding stars (a pinhead at arm's length)moving from West to East. It covered the length of a ruler at arm's length in about 8 seconds.

I told my wife, "Wow, what the heck is that?". She said, "It's probably an airplane". However, there were no blinking lights on it and, from it's very small size, near to the size of the planet Mars, I was more than certain it was very high up.

As we watched it I suddenly said, "Look! It just got brighter!" As it moved along in a straight path its diameter increased, it glowed more brightly, from a pinhead size to almost the size of a pea at arm's length. This lasted for about 2 to 3 seconds. (At this point, I had very quickly run into the house and grabbed my binoculars.

When I saw it through my binoculars it had a fuzzy appearance to it and it seemed to have white dots around its perimeter. I was using a Bushnell 10X50 to view the object). I then wondered if it had been reflecting light from the sun or if it had actually glowed internally.

Then something amazing happened. It dimmed to almost nothing. It was now barely visible, and there were no clouds along the entire flight path of this object.

Finally, this is the amazing part, it made a 30 degree (from the horizon) turn to the right and then disappeared, the whole time travelling at the same rate of speed. It's color had first been a pale white and had glowed to a very intense white when it's diameter increased and then had returned to a very dim pale white before it made its turn and disappeared. It's travel path, again, was from West to East and travelling down toward the horizon at almost a 45 degree angle.

By the way, my wife also viewed it through the binoculars and said it had a jumpy movement right before it disappeared, AFTER its 30 degree angle turn. I asked her if the ! jumpy mo vement had been from her hands shaking the binoculars, but she said that it had not, as she had both the object and a stationary star in her field of view at the same time. I just couldn't believe what we had seen!! It was my very first UFO sighting in Hawaii!! I was very certain it wasn't a satellite, as satellites don't make turns.

It was not a meteor; they don't turn either and it was definitely not a CONVENTIONAL aircraft. It may have been military but, again, from its diminutive size I was very certain this object was WAY UP there in space… ((NUFORC Note: No Iridium satellite flashes are indicated by www.heavens-above.

I could not believe that I was looking at a flying saucer as it sliced thru a cloud. It was a pleasant late afternoon with blue sky and big puffy clouds. I was watching tv and leaned my head back and looked out the window.

I couldn't believe that I saw a flying saucer slicing thru a cloud, and watched as the jetstream of the cloud moved slowly around the white disc. I yelled at my husband to look out the window and see the UFO. I pulled him down to look out the window, but it had moved out of sight.

I pushed him up and shoved him out the front door. There it was, moving slowly, heading East towards California. There was no sound from it.

It was amazing. It was very close. It was real.

I still feel weird thinking and talking about it. I've seen some strange sightings before, at night, never during the day, but ones that moved erraticly with blue, green and red lights. But never this close or during the day.

My husband works as a maintenance man up on Mauna Kea. He has a BA from the University of Hawaii @ Hilo. I work on our lilikoi farm, and I am a photographer and I have a year and a half left to get my degree at the University.

Green glowing UFOs and some that look like stars in the shape of circles with many encounters. The first encounter was with two friends I no longer have contact with. It was probably about 5-6 years ago around 10:00p.

m. We we're skateboarding behind the gym of an elementary school and decided to take a rest. We lodged our skateboards into these vents against the gym wall and layed back on them.

We had a clear view of the sky that night and I noticed a green star in the sky. It was bright and very distinguishable amongst all the other stars in the sky. I pointed it out to my two friends and they noticed it right away.

We layed back and watched it for about 10 seconds when all of a sudden it came down right in front of our faces, all the way from high up in the sky right down in front of us in a split second. The object was emitting a green glow that was very bright, but I didn't notice anything else light up around us. It was completely silent making no sound at all, and this object was big.

My friends and I made no sound and just stared at it. I just couldn't believe what I was seeing. It probably hovered in front of us for around 10 seconds, as if it were staring back at us.

Afterwards it shot off back into space as fast as it had come down in front of us and we lost sight of it a second after it shot directly back up into the atmosphere. Afterwards my friends stood up screaming their heads off and running. I didn't know what to do or think so I just followed them.

Years and years later my friends and I were just discussing UFO encounters. This wasn't my first either, but it is the most significant as it leads to a chain of sightings. So anyways, I told them about this one and they realized that we could try and head to the school gym to try and see if we could spot them again.

I thought it was a great idea and got excited, so we left. At the gym we waited for a while, and sure enough my friend spotted one out of the corner of his eye. It looked like a star, but it was movinhg, and then a few more started popping up and moving around in the sky.

They looked ! like sta rs, however some would fly low and close to the mountain next to us and these were green leaving green trails behind them. These would move fast and then slowly, and then all of a sudden they would jet accross the sky leaving trails behind them. We could spot up to even 6 at a time easily.

Some were straight above us, some were off in the distance. We watched these from around 12:00 midnight until 5:00-6:00a.m.

after the sun comes up we could no longer see them. I gathered more friends over time and we would make routine visits to the gym to spot more UFOs. Sometimes we would see a lot, sometimes none at all.

One time one flew close to us, we could just tell it was close, especially by lining it up with the mountain next to us. This one flew slow and was about the size of a quarter if you were to hold one at an arm's length in front of your face. It flew from above our heads, all the way to the other side of the field and eventually passed the mountains and dissapeared behind some clouds.

There is no way these objects could be aircraft, it's impossible. Nothing can move that slowly and then speed up that fast and maneuver they way they did. Sometimes they would fly directly at each other as if they were going to collide and move away right before they would touch, and move at extreme speeds.

These were still flying around, the last time I checked about a year ago. Sometimes I could see them from my apartment balcony, like one would just jet down really fast and dissapear. I mainly only saw them at the school gym though.

I would love to have people investigate this. I want this to go places and I was watching the National Geographic channel and heard about this place on a UFO show that they had on. Please, check this out! Oh yeah I forgot to mention that we brought video cameras afterwards to try and videotape some of these UFOs.

We were unable to capture any of them with our camera because the sky was just black and the video camera was horrible at picking anything up in that type of! setting Another thing is that the video cameras shut off at the same time while we were trying to record. The batteries weren't drained or anything, but for some reason the cameras just shut off completely. ((NUFORC Note: Witness indicates that the date of the incident is approximate.

Sphere of Light on the Island of Hawaii At 11:30PM on May 29, 2002, I was using my desktop computer, having just set it up after recently moving into my just-purchased home in Hawaii from New York earlier in May. Suddenly all the lights went out. A power outage.

I quickly decided "time for bed!" So I went through my new custom of walking throughout the first floor rooms, closing the windows before retiring upstairs to the master bedroom. Only this time, it was pitch dark. As I went to the little rear left bedroom, I went to the open window which faced east and watched as the whole area was without lights.

I could see the large light standards near the high school about 1.5 miles away which were the only operating lights that I could see. I could hear an occasional vehicle go by on Volcano Highway three blocks to my left (Northwest).

I stood there enjoying the wonderful, sultry trade winds blowing directly into my window on this beautiful, mostly clear evening. The moon had risen to my right (Southeast) Suddenly, slightly to the left (North) I saw a sphere of blue-white light coming in this general direction. I figured it was a helicopter with a searchlight coming to investigate the power outage situation.

maybe to locate a transformer out of commission. But I have seen MANY helicopters with searchlights, having lived in Pasadena, CA, where the police use them nightly; and in New York City, which has more choppers than any city in the world. They have a definite beam of light (this didn't) and, of course, helicopters make lots of noise (this was totally silent).

I could still hear the traffic go by on Volcano Highway and this object was "hugging the treeline" as it made somewhat acrobatic moves and an "S-turn" or two. As I looked at it, I figured that it was no more than 1/4 mile from me and the light source had three distinct "spike-like" beams emanating from it. Almost like an astronomical image with a diffraction pattern.

One beam went straight up (0 degrees), another to the lower right (120 degrees) and another to the lower left (240 degrees). As it kept moving, I was aware that I would shortly lose sight of it as it passed behind the outcroppings of my neighbors' properties across and down the street. So I ran upstairs where I should get a longer view of it.

It took perhaps 6-7 seconds to get upstairs, but alas, it was gone. I never saw it again. I was anxious to see an explanation of the power outage.

In the Hilo Tribune-Herald of two days' hence there was an article. At 11:30PM a blown transformer caused a power outage in Kurtistown, Mountain View, Keaau, and the Kawailani section of Hilo. The Kawailani section of Hilo had its power restored at 11:41PM (which is right after I saw it) and the other areas (including mine) had their power restored around 12:45AM.

I have looked for anomalous objects all of my life, and this is the first one that I have seen fairly close by that I really could not explain. I possess a degree in Astronomy from Caltech.

Pulsating, hovering light behind Kaala, viewed from Ford Island. I had a call from a friend telling me to go to his room. (I was living in military barracks at the time.

) His balcony faced north-west, directly toward the peak of Kaala, probably 15 or so miles away. He already had his video camera running and told me about this light that pulsed bright and dim coming from behind the mountain, rising up through the clouds, and drop back down. So of course I stuck around for awhile, I have never witnessed anything unusual like that my entire life.

After talking for about ten minutes, camera still running propped up towards the mountain, we saw the clouds over there get somewhat lit up from some light source behind Kaala. It raised up, kinda like a sunrise I guess, and kept going. At first I thought it might of been someone driving around up there, but when it raised up through the clouds, pulsating from a dull orange to a brighter orange, going from dull to bright in about a second, I quickly changed my mind.

It pulsed at a rate which had similarity to a sine wave. It went up, hovered for a few seconds above and behind the clouds. We could still see the light pulsating, reflecting off and through the clouds.

It then dropped back down, between the clouds and the mountain where we got a clear view of it, and then back behind the mountain. It quit, then about 5 minutes after it disappeared, it lit up the clouds again but never surfaced from behind the mountain. This was all on video-tape and we showed it to a few friends.

I transferred it to my computer, (about 4 Gigs worth). So quite a few people actually saw the shot, and still had no idea of what it could be (One person said it could have been some machinery that they use for the pineapple fields.) Unforunately, he ended up taping over it, and my harddrive crashed.

Government conspiracy? Maybe not, but it was still cool. Personally I think it may have been some flares, and there also is an airfield back there, where people often skydive, so I am still very skeptical and know there is a! realistic answer to this. huge silver disappearing object I was driving down Kilauea Avenue, clear sunny morning. I was slowing down to stop at a light, noticed a very large object ,above the tallest trees but lower than the top of Mauna Kea. What I saw was a huge silver object which seemed to turn, and then it looked like a very dark colored wedge type shape,the larger end was on the bottom and and it was at about a 45 degree angle and I was watching it as I had to go once the light changed, I kept my eye on it and it disappeared before I could stop and look at it.

The weirdest, most unexplained event I have ever seen. The sighting was so brief. Never heard of anyone one else who saw it.

I am reporting this months after the fact. I did not think it was a ufo at first.but what else could it have been? I am a graphic designer and consider myself a sharp observer.

An oval shaped spacecraft with bright lights hovered above our car on a deserted Hawaiin road, one humid night in Maui. One night this past April, a week after Easter, my friend and I were in Maui, Hawaii. We had rented a Ford Mustang and were joyriding one humid evening after dinner.

We had been all over town, ate some pineapple, and were on our way home when we decided it was too early to turn in for the night and we kept on driving. We had the top down and the system up, listening to our favorite Usher song, as sped down the road. For some reason, we turned down a road we were not very familiar with, and with each passing sign, we got a little more nervous.

It was an unlit rundown road with no other cars. We knew we were miles outside of town, but we didn’t care. We were having the time of our life until the road drastically began to narrow and we passed more peculiar signs, warning against trespassing.

Either we thought nothing of it or we were feeling brave that day, none the less we resumed our adventure to the lava flow and kept on driving. As she drove I was gazing at the stars. I shouted in excitement when I saw the most amazing shooting star of my life.

Like a jettisoned rocket it flung across the sky, and I quickly made a wish. It began to fade, then to my surprise the star didn’t burn out, but stopped suddenly, and went back in the direction it had come from. The star got brighter and now my friend had stopped the car, and we both watched in amazement as this bright object flew across the Heavens.

It was the strangest thing I had ever seen. What I had first thought was a beautiful star, had turned into a phenomenon. My friend right away shrilled “ALIENS!” As soon as she said that, a bone chilling fear ran through my body.

The bright light came closer and closer and I was screaming for my friend to turn the car around and go home. The road was so narrow that it took us a while to turn around, and now it was apparent that there was what appeared to be a large, oval spacecraft headed right towards us at incredible speeds. It made a loud humming noise and had bright lights in a sparatic pattern.

The! lights were very bright and some were colored. My friend was so frightened and frozen in shock that she couldn’t drive. As it came in closer the engine of the car turned off.

She frantically turned it back on. I was pushing her foot on the gas petal, and as the motor revved loudly the spacecraft neared. It hovered above us for about a mile, as she drove as fast as the car would go, and I thought I was going to die.

But as we neared the town the spacecraft sped out of sight. I was so relieved, but I will never be the same knowing that there is life other than us out there. We were not intoxicated or on any medication at the time.

What we saw was real.

A round or spherical light that was blue-green moved rapidly across the surface of the ocean. Early in the morning, before sunrise, I saw from my bed a round or spherical object moving rapidly in a northern direction across the surface (or just above the surface)of the ocean. It seemed identical to an object my wife and I had seen four mornings earlier at just about the same time.

In this case, however, I saw the object for a somewhat longer period of time, since I leapt from my bed and went onto our waterfront deck, where I could observe it a bit longer and watched it grow faint and disappear as it apparently went away at a high rate of speed. We saw a round or spherical object of a bright blue-green moving north just above the surface of the sea. Early in the morning, before dawn, my wife and I saw a round, or spherical, object which was bluish green moving north just above the surface of the ocean at a high rate of speed. I started to reach for my binoculars (which were six feet away) but then I realized it object to be out of sight before I could zero in on it.

Four mornings later, at about the same time, I saw the same or an identical object moving in precisely the same way over the same stretch of ocean. We live in a studio apartment directly on the ocean and had a clear view of the object. I am a retired attorney and marine naturalist and we are both good observers who have never before seen a UFO.

Two round white lights moving fast and steady, (left to right) across a body of water, rising and disappearing. We were looking out onto Kapalua Bay whale watching, when two round lights appeared in the middle of the Bay. At first I thought it was a boat as it started to move across the water.

The two lights moves together very smoothly, that I then thought it was a plane flying very close to the water. As it moved steadily across the Bay I ran into my room to get my binoculars. I then watched the two lights move from right to left.

With the binoculars I still could not see anything but two round lights. There was not any craft or any kind of mass around the lights. If it had been a plane, the object would have had to be coming in our direction.

As the objects reached towards the shore on the left of the Bay they rose like a plane, then disappeared. At this point they were going away from our direction and they were still two rounds lights. If it had been a plane there would not have been two round lights because of the direction they were going.

Besides I would have seen the outline of the plane while I looked through the binoculars. All of this took only approx. 2 minutes.

Even a speed boat would take longer to cross the Bay. It was a beautiful clear morning. There had to be someone else who must have seen it as there are many tourists out whale watching around the Bay in Maui at this time of the season.

We left that same day for home, so I don't know if anything was reported. I asked one of the employees at the hotel but she didn't know what it might have been. I don't know what this was, if anything.

It puzzled me and I could not could not come up with a reasonably explanation for these lights. I know there is an observation station on Maui whether it had anything to do with it. If someone could explain it to me I would appreciate it.

((FOLLOW-UP COMMUNICATION)) No, I have not attempted to contact any news media etc., I feel uncomfortable inquiring about it for the obvious reasons. My husband was the only other witness that I am aware of and he is as perplexed as I am.

Very bright, firm triangular formation of lights -- solid, hanging and moving silently, 100 feet above the building. I live in Honolulu, Hawaii. I was stone cold sober, awake and lucid, and I know the following event was real.

Later this evening, aprox. 10:05 pm - Jan, 2, 2002. I was heading into Waikiki on Punahou street -- many buildings ahead of me -- above the Pan Am building 3, maybe 4 blocks away, I saw a huge triangular formation of extremely bright, white lights.

Very clearly!!! They made the following shape; [example: below] * * * * * * * * Though it was facing more horizontal (thiner on the leading edge) than the limits of my typed diagram will allow. ((NUFORC Note: The pattern did not survive transferring to the database. )) Immediately I studied it closely to be sure of what I was seeing.

My two sons were in the car with me and saw it also! I was driving toward it, but the end of the road came and I had to turn the corner. Before I lost sight of it, it was moving, hovering gently above the buildings -- its left wing dipped slightly and the nose pivioting [the lights held formation solid and firm -- it was a solid object!!!) out to sea. By the time I got through traffic, to its exact location, it was gone -- vanished.

Its lights and its size (slightly larger than the building's rooftop) were so obviously unlike any other kind of aircraft, period! When I arrived to the spot there were no lights, aircraft, crowds, promotinal events. nothing else that could have been mistaken for what I saw. This was real.

It wasn't my imagination. The object was soild and obvious!!! From this day forword, at least I will know!!! I have seen solid physical evidence myself. I called the police, the FAA, the airport (was it too low for radar) in hopes of confirmation from others who may have seen it, with no results.

I was finally led to a number to the University of Hawaii -- an answering machine. I left my message. We'll see.
