Saucer shaped aircraft taking off. Unbelievable acceleration. A bluish neon round light (glow) underneath the aircraft.
I was not aware there was a site like this or I would have reported this earlier. I was working the night shift in Kotzebue, Alaska. I don't remember the exact date of my sighting but to the best of my recollection it was in October of 2002 at about 5:30 in the morning.
My work was such that I had to spend time outside. There was some snow on the ground, but I don't think it was more that a couple of inches. Looking out to the north of Kotzebue, I noticed a saucer shaped aircraft take off from about I would guess 1 to 3 miles north of Kotzebue.
It was dark but with a partial moon I was able to discern the outline of a saucer shaped aircraft. It took off at about an 80 to 85 degree angle. It started up relatively slowly but when it was perhaps 500 or so feet in the air, it accelerated very quickly.
The whole sighting was over within 10 seconds or so. That is how fast it was. It accelerated so quickly it was out of sight within about 10 seconds.
The interesting thing was the neon bluish round glow (plasma)that was underneath the aircraft. Probably about a quarter the diameter of the entire saucer. I assume this was some kind of exhaust mechanism.
You would think I would have heard a noise as this aircraft took off but there was no noise. Complete silence. Again a very unusual neon bluish light, plasma (glow) underneath the aircraft which I assume was some kind of exhaust mechanism or what propelled the aircraft.
After I saw this I called the police station in Kotzebue and asked if they had also seen something. No, he said that he had not seen anything. I think they had only one patrolman on duty as Kotzebue is a very small town and he was probably watching TV.
When my boss came in at 8:00 that morning I also told him what I saw. He had been in Alaska several years and said other sightings had been made in Alaska over the years. Now that I look back I wish that I had gone north of Kotzebue and looked for any signs that the aircraft may have left in the snow.
I also wish I had called the air force down in Anchorage or Fairbanks to see if they had seen anything on their radar b! ut I did n't. All I can say is this really happened. I never really gave much thought to UFOs before this incident as I didn't believe in them.
But this one incident changed my views completely. I now know without a doubt that there are aliens visiting our planet and they are far superior to us technologically. Again, the speed of this saucer was unbelievable.
And whatever they are using to propell their spacecraft is not like anything we have. ((NUFORC Note: Witness indicates that date of incident is approximate. PD)).

Ball of light streaking upwards While sitting at a bonfire on the beach myself and 2 others seen a red ball of light rise from the horizon high into the sky and drop about 3 minutes apart, it was very fast and left a trail of light which rules out distress flares, the location of the lights was south southwest of zapadni bay a distance I estimate of 10 to 15 miles, the skies were clear and calm. ((NUFORC Note: NUFORC has received no other reports. We cannot find St.
George Island, AK, on our map, but wonder if the sighting might have been caused by a launch of a missile from the Kodiak launch facility. PD)).

Strange flyover witnessed I read the report from late May in the database about the two aircraft 'PIGGYBACKING'.This is strange, because I witnessed the same thing. We were standing on my friends porch when my 5 year old son pointed to the sky and said'look Dad'-I was suprised to see two aircraft following one another-closely,without visible space betwwen them-my friend witnessed this as well.
We speculated that one may be a refueler, however, they were both the same type of aircraft, leaving a single contrail, and no sound.I would guess that they were flying at about 11,000 ft.Neither one of us had ever seen aircraft flying in such a manner.
No idea if these were millitary or commercial;I was in the Air Force for five years,my friend worked for a year installing runway lights on commercial airfields,he was unsure as well as to the model of the aircraft involved.Thought I should report this due to the incident in May on your database.

Low flying triangular craft noticed traveling south along mountain range in Anchorage. Approximately at 0830, I witnessed an craft. The conditions, clear blue sky, the sun was rising over the mountains to our east, no noticeable wind.
No other aircraft in sight. Merril Field is to the west and the area I saw the craft is usally the glide path for small aircraft to land. At first I thought it was ballons, because it appeared light was being reflected in various colors.
But I begin to notice it was not ascending but moving toward us. It was dark, black in color. It was a very slow moving craft, north to south.
The craft appeared to travel from the south end of Elmendorf AFB. As it passed over head it appeared to be traigular on the bottom but in a pyramid type structure. The contour reminded me of a F-117 stealth fighter.
I honestly cannot remember the sequence, but I remember 2-3 red lights, then green lights. I remember a white light but again cannot remember the sequence. It passed over us and continued on a southernly course along the mountains.
I would guess the altitude of less than 4,000. ((NUFORC Note: We suspect the witness implies a date in 2003. We have changed the date above.

'Rocket boosters' over North Pole AK I was watching a fantastic northern lights show tonight when I saw condensed light out of the corner of my eye. I looked up to see a cigarish light moving across the sky. I was fortunate in that I was holding binoculars at the time and was able to focus in on the object as is tracked from north to south.
The light was actually flame as one would think a pair of rocket boosters would produce. I watched it move for maybe fifteen more seconds and then the 'boosters' went out and as they did an orangish glow remained for an instant (there was a shape momentarily visible in the afterglow that reminded me of a branding iron pointing directly at me shaped like a square with a cross through the center) and then the entire object disappeared into the night. I can guess latXlong and make a sketch if requested via email.
((QUERY TO WITNESS)) Dear Ms. ((name deleted)), Thank you very much for the excellent report! In fact, we received one other report from Fairbanks. From your description, I wonder whether the event might have been caused by a rocket launch of some kind.
Are you able to make a telephone call, or two, to establish whether that might have been the cause? I suspect a call to the FAA would resolve the issue fairly quickly, since any facility launching a missile would have to apprise the FAA of the event. If you find out what the cause was, I would be most grateful if you could drop us a note. We will add it to your report.
((FOLLOW-UP MESSAGE FROM SAME WITNESS)) Mr. Davenport, I did phone the FAA (ATC at FAI) this evening and was told that the research facility out at Poker Flats (an atmospheric research center about 30 miles north of my home) was potentially active at that time (the NOTAM filed by Poker Flats is open-ended) though none of the same staff was on tonight so we we're unable to verify. Poker Flats does apparently occasionally launch small rockets into the atmosphere for research.
The FAA employee also stated that the research does "effect the Northern Lights" which may have something to do with the good lights show last night (actually now I'm more interested by that. ;) The specs would certainly seem to line up with where and what I saw. Thank you for your reply and suggestion.
All the best to you. Warmly, ((name deleted)) ((END FOLLOW-UP)).

turn around for 1 min with gushing out smoke. I saw fire ball. At first I thoutght it was a shooting star, but it turn around for some seconds, and I saw the smoke.
I am not sure that was UFO or not, but it was something strange. I was watching northern lights at that time, and beside me two men whom I don't know were there. I didn't hear any sounds because my car was making noise, but two other men said that made sounds.

A reddish star like object moved very fast across the sky before dissappearing half-way across. My mom and I were on our way into our home when i looked up and pointed out a reddish star like object moving very quickly across the sky. It appeared to be very far away since it was so small.
We first thought it to be a satellite but it seemed to just dissappear half-way across the sky. It made no sound at all and no odd effects happened. ((NUFORC Note: Date is approximate.
We presume the sighting occurred at 8:00 p.m., and we have amended the time here.

Bright light in the Alaska night sky, moving south-north at extreme speed A purple pink light (ball shaped) was seen moving South to North at 09:30pm. Aurora activity is common in this area of the Alaskan Arctic, however this one was a ball shaped light witnessed by two life long residients of the area. Object transited the empty sky from horizon to horizon in approximately 90 seconds, object appeared to be in the atmosphere and not a spaceborne object.
It appeared as the brightest magnitude, as bright as or brighter than the moon. Object appeared to travel in a straight line. There was no visible auroral activity at this time.
witnesses had never seen anything like this before, definetly felt that there was no possibility that this was related to the Aurora. ((NUFORC Note: Witness elects to remain totally anonymous. PD)).
