Utah UFO Sightings in 2002

At approximately 1845, I walked out of my house in Layton, Utah to go to the store. It was very dark out, an overcast of thin clouds with about a 1500 foot ceiling based on the commerical airliners landing at Salt Lake International airport at the south end of the Great Salt Lake. As I took out my car keys from my jacket, I happened to look up to the north end of the valley and saw several aircraft on final descent to the airport.

As I was watching them for a moment, I also noticed what appeared to be three lights (white, red, and another white) horizontal to each other skipping between the landing aircaft. The unidentified lights traveled from the north end of the valley to what appeared to the the airport in about 10 seconds or less and I estimate the distance to be about 30 miles or so in that 10 seconds. It did not fly in an straight line, but seemed to hop skip a little above and below as it traveled horizontally.

I think the pilots making their approach may have seen this event as it seemed to be in their line-of-sight.

First, we thought it was Venus, next we thought it was a large jet with it's landing lights on.now, we don't have a clue. At approximately 1745 hrs on 12/13/02, we were driving due west on I-80, 70 miles west of Salt Lake City.

I was looking at a bright light out almost due west and a little bit north. I told my friend, "Hey, look how bright Venus is there." I continued to look at it due to it's beauty and brightness.

In seconds, it was very obvious it was not Venus, and it wqas coming directly into us, getting bigger and brighter. My friend said, "that isn't Venus, it's a plane with it's landing lights on." The closest large airport was 70 miles East, however.

However, it continued getting bigger, brighter, and closer until it was obvious it wasn't your typical plane, for sure. By then, it was getting extremely close and bright, coming directly overhead. At it's closest, I could actually make out individual lights on the front of the object, there were many, emitting bright light, with a touch of blue.

The individual lights were round in shape, evenly spaced, on the front of what looked like a delta-wing object. I had the impression that it was extremely large, the exact shape and dimensions of it were tough to see due to the brightness of the lights. There were no strobes, no colored lights, no landing lights, etc.

it wasn't like any aircraft I had ever seen. Although we were on a dangerous part of the freeway, noted for wrecks, I wish we would have stopped and gotten out of the car in the emergency lane to get a better look at this thing, whatever the hell it was. There were no reference points, so we could not determine the size or altitude of this, the speed appeared quite fast.

it looked like the description of the Phoenix lights I have seen, that's the closest description I have.

a dark green disk crashed on the top of billy's mountain. as i was returning home from my sisters house on thanksgiving day. 1 was aproaching the cross roads of hyways 10 & 89 i saw through the front window of my car a disk shaped craft (at that time it was about 3-400 ft from crashing) the craft was coming straight down.

it was disk shaped, and was a dark florecent green in color. it was bordered all around with a very brite white glow. both colors trailed behind it like a small tail.

it crashed on the top of a mountain which is called billy's mountain it lit the sky up like it was 12:00 noon. ((NUFORC Note: Date is approximate. PD)).

green disc crash landed on top of billies mountain as i was returning home from sisters house on thanksgiving day of 2002. i was coming near the intersection of hyways 98 & 6 near the place called billies mountain. i saw a disc shaped object that was dark florecent green in color, and had a very bright white glow that incircled it.

the green, and white colors trailed behind it like a short tail. it was about 100 ft. from crashing on the top of billies mountain.

it was enormous in size maybe 200 ft. in diameter. when it crashed it lit up the sky as if it were mid-day.

i kept on driving as i thought that this was none of my buisness i thought that the military or some goverment people would be there vrey soon to check it out. i heard nothing on the news or any other report of anykind of this crash. so at 11:00 pm i called chanel kutv2 news and reported what i had seen.

they had no report other than my own on what had happened. i hope someone can find out what this was. i truly believe that this was a ufo crash.

2 people saw a slow moving very large "darkness" with faint light reflecting off its leading edge. My girlfriend from behind me gasped, saying "What the hell is that?" I looked up without seeing her pointing or anything and saw something definitely designed not to be seen or heard moving slowly over the eastern mountains in a southerly direction then turning gradually to the west. Slow moving.

As it passed between me and the stars (very clear night) I noted that it obscured stars from view. Spook-Alley beacons were aiming directly in its direction and didn't reach high enough to illuminate it at all. It appeared as light reflected off its forward edge (but an edge designed not to reflect light).

It may have come to a point or been a gigantic disc. If it was travelling at a high enough altitude to be out of the reach of the searchlights it was massive. It may have not been affected as searchlights shined on it and been at a lower altitude.

I was stand by a building on the old Wendover Airfeild. Southeast I noticed something moving in the sky. As I watch it moved from south east went over west wendover NV going toward Oregon.

The point of the cross was close to the left tip making it look like a backwards y. Under it a strip the enitre length of the wing was something. Thier was no tail or wing lights.

It was fly so low that my flash light could hit it. Which I did and that is when i saw the strip on it's belly/Wing. The sound was a low pitch hum.

While sitting on my front porch I saw 2 orbs of light going across the night sky; They had no clearence lights of an airplane. I was setting on my front porch looking up at the stars when I noticed two points of light that looked like one following the other.The direction of travel was from NW to SE.

I could not hear any engine sound like from a airplane,thy made no sound at all.I had enough time to call my daughter outside so she could have a look.The whole thing took about 2mins.

I'm 45yrs. old and have seen aircrafts at night before but none that remained lit up from horizon to horizon.They were to high and the black sky made it impossable to see a shape our color other then the white light.

Two at a time for 4 hours. October 15th 16th and 17th looking towards the eastern sky at night around 11:00pm above the shyline you could see an object tha appeared to have three lights giving off glows, red, blue, yellow and white. There were two of these objects one just above the little dipper and one below the dippers "first star" handle.

We at first thought that it was a helicopter but it never moved for sometime about an hour. Then it went up in altitude quiet far the across to the south then downwards towards the earth then south again. This event took around 4 to 5 hours to complete.

Large very bright circular light spanding much of the countryside. Bright light hoovering over flat lands elevation unknown. Light similar to that of the Luxor casino in Las Vegas shining on the ground originating from a very destinct circular object, but beem graudually fading, but beem being visible from miles--very fast moving.

Number of witness on the frequented highway where witnessed.HWY 10 between Huntington and Price, Utah. Light moved in a southeast direction until disappearing behind mountains, or fading until unseen.

Three fireballs appeared which emitted orange/yellow beams, faded in, then out. It was pitch dark and me and my good friend were watching the night sky. We both heard weird looping sounds that were low-pitched and repeated several times.

The both of us were pretty scared so we ran back to the road. But we decided to check it out. Then Me and my friend saw three fireballs that were orange in color.

VERY BRIGHT! the first one appeared then shot an orange beam to the right, the second fire ball appeared and caught the beam. The second fireball shot to a 3rd fireball which appeared. it looked like this o--o--o Then the three fireballs disappeared, right after that an even brighter single fireball appeared.

glowing green triangle passed over my truck, while driving on Interstate 70 in a Utah canyon pass at night. This report may seem a bit overdue, but it has taken me awhile to analize what I "saw". First, I would like to say something about my background.

I was 59 years old when I observed the UFO. I have a Masters degree and was a Professor of Art for two decades , before I resigned to operate an artist studio. I am now a commodities transporter, a professional driver.

My wife and I are an owner/operator team of an express truck for a trucking company based in Florida. We deliver loads throughout the United States and Canada. Being a rational person, I have been unable to explain what I saw in this report, only that it was indeed unidentified.

To the best of my knowledge, this incident occurred on October 14, 2002 after we had picked up a load in California. This trip was to be an all night drive, so sometime around midnight, we turned off of Interstate 15 in Utah, and turned unto Interstate 70 eastbound, heading for Denver, Colorado. In the daytime, the first 50 miles of Interstate 70 is one of the most beautiful drives through a canyon on the interstate system, but at night, this can be one of the lonely stretches of highway in the US.

Anyway, it was around 1 or 2 o'clock in the morning, I was driving the truck through the Fishlake National Forest area, just west of Joseph, Utah. My wife was asleep in the sleeper, so I was driving in the cab by myself. I was winding my way through the canyon pass.

All I could see was the canyon walls, as my headlights swept across them. Then I saw a green light about 50 yards down the road. My first thought was that it was a transformer, of some sort.

When, suddenly, this green light passed over my truck. The green light appeared to be a horizontal triangle, with beveled edges. I couldn't see anything around the light.

It was pitch black, and there were no other markings or lights. Since this happened so quickly, and due to the fact I was still going 55 miles an hour through a winding canyon pass at night, I could not stop the truck, to see where the object went after it passed over my truck. However there was one observation that I was able to make: the object was quite small, no wider than my truck.

In other words, if this was a flying vehicle, it appeared to be big enough for only one, or two, occupants. Finally, I would like to mention that I have driven this stretch of interstate twice since then. Once in 2003, and once in 2004.

Both trips occurred during the daylight hours. Neither time did I see anything on the highway that resembled what I saw on October 14, 2002. All I saw was a winding stretch of interstate and miles of beautiful canyon walls.

Fireball falling from the sky Me and some friends were driving from Salt Lake to Provo going south on I-15, when we saw what looked like a fireball fall almost straight down out of the sky. It was an orangish color, but left a trail that turned blue. It went down behind the mountains, so we couldn't see what happened to it or get a better look at it.

Red and blue flashing lights, low to the ground, behind my car on a deserted road in Riverton, Utah. I was traveling South on Redwood Road, coming up on the area of Camp Williams military base. I passed another car that was headed North, and I remember feeling really bad because I left my high-beams on, because the headlights in my car would only work in the high-beam position, and only if I held it in that position manually.

The car passed, though, and went around a bend, and there were no other cars on the road. I remember it was very dark. At that point, I began to see the flash of red and blue lights illuminating the area.

I thought I was getting pulled over for leaving my high-beams on, so I started to look for a safe place to pull over. As I slowed down, I looked in my rearview mirror, and I could see actual flashing red and blue lights, and I looked over my shoulder and saw them in the rear window. After a minute, I found a place where there was enough of a shoulder on the road to pull over.

I pulled over and put the car in park, and then I noticed that there were no longer any flashing lights. I looked all around. There was no car behind me.

I was completely alone on the road. I just sat there, wondering what that was all about. As I sat there, I replayed the incident in my mind.

I could visualize the red and blue flashing lights as they appeared through my rear window. All of a sudden it occurred to me that there were no headlights. There had been no headlights below the red and blue flashing lights! I started to panic.

In fact, I was just plain terrified at that point. I knew that something very out of the ordinary had just happened to me. I was so scared, I didn’t know what to do.

I grabbed my cell phone and called my husband, at home. I explained what had just happened, and he told me to put the car in drive and drive home fast. He was scared too.

As I spoke to him, I tried to gather my thoughts. I tried to tell him all the tiny details of what had just happened, so I would remember it all. I was scared and confused, and felt like I needed to go through it all and figure it out.

In doing so, I recalled distinctly that there had been no headlights. There was no flash of white light, as it would have appeared if a car had turned around and their headlights swung around in the turn. There was no indication of a car pulled over further behind me, although it was very dark and I may not have seen it if there was.

Everything I recalled then and everything I recall now is just completely puzzling. Living near Camp Williams, in Eagle Mountain, had afforded us many opportunities to see military helicopters of all sorts. For a few minutes I thought that perhaps it might have been a helicopter, but I have been below low flying helicopters before, and I know what that sounds like.

I was even buzzed by a low flying Blackhawk one night as my husband and I drove down the highway, so I know how it sounds when one is close. The thing that kept coming back to me as I recalled the bizarre occurrences of that evening is that there was no sound. As close as those lights were to my vehicle, I know I would have heard the sound, if it had been a helicopter.

It was close enough that I saw the source of the flashing lights in both my rearview mirror and in my rear window. Whatever it was, it was very low to the ground and very close to my car. I have always held a neutral position regarding the ideas of extra-terrestrials and UFOs.

I have neither believed, nor disbelieved in them. I’ve enjoyed watching sci-fi shows, but it was always just silly fun to me. I’ve never really considered myself a “believer”.

That night my skepticism really dropped to an all-time low. I’m still not really what you would call a “believer”, but I’m a great deal closer to it since then. ((NUFORC Note: Witness indicates that the date of the incident is approximate.

Round green light in the western sky of Utah I saw A bright green perfectly round object fly across the sky from south to north. It was so bright that it shined through the clouds and it was dusk. It flew straight across the sky.

It looked to me like it was sideways at first then it turned flat.

The same information was brought to our attention by Mr. Ryan Layton, MUFON SSD for Utah. We note that many of the facts cited in the initial sighting report, do not seem consistent, and we have called that to the attention of the investigators.

For example, if an object passed within a few hundred feet of the observer while traveling at "2,000-3,000 mph," the resultant sonic boom would have blown the witnesses off their feet. Instead, the witness reports no sonic boom, and in fact reports that the sound heard was quite mild. However, please see the follow up communications below, which may clarify some of those apparent discrepancies.

Reported : 9/27/2002 3:27 PM Location of sighting: Heading north on 3600 W, following lights towards magna and more west. Location : Taylorsville, UT Shape : Light Description of object /s : The objects were big and bright orange in a v formation, they hovered and one appeared to be triangular shape when it flew over head at an extremely fast speed.- When the light changed to a triangle shape over our heads, it wasn't loud like a jet or airplane.

It was low and kind of hummed, it didn't make too much noise. Sighting Event Details:Description of object /s : We were traveling home last night when we saw several objects in the sky, much too large to be a jet, plane, or helicopter. They were in a V formation and slowly moving and hovering into straight lines and then back again.

Couldn't tell exactly what shape the actual object was. I am not one to believe in UFO's or anything, but now I can't deny what I saw. It was not of this world, or maybe it was the government testing something, either way it was strange and there wasn't a logical explanation of what I saw.

Suddenly, one shot straight up into the air and looked like something going into space. but it didn't, it flew right over our heads and appeared to look like a triangle. It immediately changed directions, nothing that I know of can go at that speed and change from right to left so quickly.

The other lights were still there, they had an orange glow to them. We stayed for an hour and watched these strange objects. I know someone else had to have seen what was going on, I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't making it up.

Now there is no doubt in my mind that we are not alone. I do feel suspicious about the whole thing, i thought we were completely alone in this universe, but now i have a strong conviction we are not. Phenomenon visible for how long?: we stayed to watch it for an hour, but went home, it could've gone on longer than that.

Direction of Object: It was going west then east then north. it changed directions rather quickly. Only one craft, travelled at high speeds, Bright glowing, low humming in Utah My wife and I were relaxing outside our ranch when the sighting occured. A night on the ranch is usually quiet and calm but not this night as I felt the cattle were a little uneasy. I was the first to witness as the wife was inside making some drinks.

It began with cattle bcoming more destressed and as I went to investigate thats when it happened. A low but very clear huming noise coming from northern hills, myself I was feeling alittle uneasy as the cattle were never like this. The noise incresed to an even deeper hum although nothing was visible at this stage.

The wind began to pick up and from over the hills came something moving in the distance. A very bright object traveling very fast, it moved over my head at a low altitude. At that point I called the wife.

As she arrived I had my eyes fixed on the object, I heard my wife ask what was wrong but then I could feel fear coming over her as well. Our eyes were both fixed on this single disk shaped object which moved off into the distance. At that point I thought our sighting was over but how wrong I was.

The craft not only returned in our direction but also reduced its speed. The craft almost came to a standstill about 150metres away from us. The ship just hovered for I am guessing a time 7mins.

THe ship then took off at a great speed and then circled back over our heads and that what the lsat we saw before it travelled south.

Fireball across the top of the wasatch Mountains in Salt Lake City,Utah USA Was standing in my driveway at around 1:00 am, having a smoke, I was looking east towards the wasatch mountains from around 3600 west 4300 south area and slightly above the tops of the mountain peaks coming from the provo area going north almost horizontal along the Mtn tops at about twice the speed of a incoming airliner, the main part of it was about the size of your thumbnail at arms lengh. It looked like a sparkler moving across the sky, with spark trails falling from a short tail and also the main body, it went in & out of a few small clouds and dissappered into the mountains behind the the university of utah. also seen the same thing again 2 nights later in almost the same area about 2 hours earlier,it was big and have never seen anything like it before, was very bright and litt the east part of the sky like a arc weld or a sparkler, a very big sparkler, was not a falling star or meteor, it moved horizontal for to long, the distance of the Salt Lake Valley.

Shadowy lights in the shape of a bird moving across the sky rapidly. We saw just lights and no crafts. The lights were more like shadowy shapes and were grey (sometimes changed to red) in appearance.

What we saw were bird-like in shape with the width (i.e. wing span) varying in width.

They generally moved across the Milky Way in approximately 5-7 seconds. They started out dim, got brighter as they passed over and then dimmed. At times they appeared stippled.

They almost moved like a wave in the water. They moved in different directions across the sky. Most of the time each shadow moved in a single direction, but rarely some changed direction as they moved.

Most of the time we saw one shadowy shape at a time, but occassionaly we would see two at a time moving in different directions. We saw approximately 50 during the half hour we viewed them. We were viewing the Percieds at the best time of the year and saw many shooting stars.

((NUFORC Note: We spoke with the witnesses to the event, and they seemed to us to be both sincere and quite credible. They reported that they had contacted the Hansen Planetarium in Salt Lake City, which we confirmed with personnel at that facility. The Planetarium had received "four or five" similar reports from communities in the same general area as Salem.

PD)) ((FOLLOW-UP COMMUNICATION WITH ANOTHER POSSIBLE WITNESS)) I am fairly certain I witnessed the same thing as reported from Salem, Utah with minor variations. The "object" had an orangish glow not red and the boomerang or v shape broke up completely two or three times to form somewhat of a circle. I was able to watch them long enough to determine with 99% certainty that what I was seeing was birds.

I called two wild bird companies to find out what kind of bird migrates at 10:30 at night or later and could "glow in the dark." I was told that the white faced ibis, for one migrates in v's, is brownish grey, and has luminescent feathers that will reflect light from the setting sun or possibly street lights. I was told also that birds migrate at night and in this situation probably from the Great Salt Lake to Utah Lake.

Bright Light from the heavens illuminated me like a spotlight, dims and disappears My friend and I were watching the stars. We were seated approximately 3 feet apart. Something caught my attention.

I looked up into a light so bright it left me seeing spots for several minutes. My friend was looking in my direction and said I was engulfed in a glow of light like a stage light but the light never touched him. After a few seconds the light dimmed and appeared to be a sattelite moving north to south about 20 degrees until it disappeared.

Lights over Salt Lake City. I work at the Salt Lake City Airport and as I was looking to the west, I noticed a cigar shaped mass floating through the air at approximately blimp speed. It was almost a transparent/flourescent type of light.

It was lined with lights. The lights weren't very bright, but they went all the way around it. and it changed shape like it stood on it's end and got shorter and fatter as it was turning on its end.

As it flattened out again it got long and skinny, like a cigar. I definitly was not an airplane or a weather balloon. It was like what you hear on ufo shows.

It made no noise. I have never seen anything like it and it is very hard to describe. It was witnessed by about 12 people.
