Kansas UFO Sightings in 2002

Dark, Silent triangular shape over Kansas I am a medical professional of 26 years. I was outside on my deck at approximately 1945 hours the sky was spotlessly clear and the air was crisp approximately 25 degrees F. I was looking up had just mused at the fact that I could only see about thirty degrees of night sky over head.

I have a canvas awning over a portion of the deck and it limited my line of sight to about 15-20 degrees either direction from 90 degrees straight up. I would often look up at the stars and have on numerous occasions been able to see sattelites. I noticed some motion against the motionless backdrop of stars and saw that what I had originally thought were stars were moving! There appeared to be three lights at the "tips" of a dark triangular shaped "craft?" moving slowly north.

The crfaft was able to precisely, fluidly change direction towards NE and then towards the NW. The craft was low, approximately 1,000'-2,000' in altitude. It moved SILENTLY, and it seemed able to change directions within its own radius (turn on a dime) but it was not moving fast.

It reminds me of the fluid, silent turn/roll of a sailplane. For a moment I thought that's what it was, but I have never seen any sailplanes around here and I have lived here for 44 years. I eventually lost sight of the craft against the backdrop of the stars.

This was the strangest thing I have ever seen. It happened tonight about 1.5 hrs ago.

I have been back outside straing my neck for a chance second peak. But I know what I saw, and I DID SEE THEM. I KNOW YOU ARE HERE.

I saw a flashing aircraft of some sort traveling very rapidly from west to east to the north of topeka ks. At approxamately 2100 hrs on 11-23 I was a passenger in a car. As we reached the top of a large hill I saw a white flashing object in the northern sky.

It traveled from west to east rapidly over a four second time period approxamately. It covered the whole expanse of the sky in that time. The sky was overcast and I don't believe it was a shooting star.

I'm a forty year old housewife and have never had an experience like that before.

Saw an orange cross shaped craft with no blinking lights moving east to west watching for lenids from work parking lot after work. Saw an orange cross shaped craft moving from east to west.Craft had no blinking lights.

craft seemed to glow orange as if lit from the bottom. Craft made no sound. craft was the size of the fingernail on an outstreached hand.

craft made no contrail like later observed aircraft did.

Boomerang craft was silent, lightless, and big enough to block out the stars behind it. On November 9, 2002 at approximately 9:30 p.m.

, I walked outside to help my daughter and her son to her car. She said she had seen a brilliant green shooting star earlier in the evening. When she told me this, I automatically looked up to see if I could see one too.

At the same time, my daughter and I were looking up and we both said, "Oh my God,what is that"? We both were looking at an object that was boomerang in shape, no lights, gray or dark-sky color, and made absolutely no sound at all. This craft was headed north and was immense in size. It was so big that the only way to see its shape was by the fact that it was blocking out the stars behind it.

The event passed and my daughter and grandson left. I returned to the house to try to continue watching a movie with my neighbor. Later, at 1:00 a.

m., I asked my neighbor to walk outside with me; I wanted to look again. As we walked off the front steps and looked up, my neighbor yelled and pointed up.

There was the craft again! This time, the object was moving to the southeast and was directly above the house. It seemed to be in the same "orbit", as earlier I had noticed the Little Dipper was nearby the object the first time and then as the night wore on, the position of the stars had changed too.Again, the object was near the Little Dipper.

Another note; the neighborhood dogs were barking frantically when both events occurred. I do not know if this is significant or not. I was always a little skeptical but have tried to keep an open mind about these things.

Today however, I am changed. I really want to know if anyone else saw this craft or not. I am going out again tonight to see if I can see it.

I know it was not a stealth fighter or bomber - I have seen both, living close to McConnell Air Force Base. This thing was really, really big. It was scary.

During both sightings, I also witnessed shooting stars near it. This may be significant too. ((NUFORC Note: Please see report from Tempe, AZ, for same date.

Two to Four bright yellow flame like lights side by side in the night sky. While travling North on Old Hwy 81 Between Hesson,KS and Moundridge,KS we noticed two Yellow lights in the distance to the North-Northeast of our location. From where we were they appeared to be hovering over the outskirts of Moundridge.

As we came closer to Moundridge they seemed to dim and fade away. We lost track of them for about 15 sec. then they reappeard again and still seemed to be to our North-Northeast.

We than turned from the center of town and travled Straight North from Center of Moundridge,KS toward the north exit of Moundridge(I-135) which is about 3 miles. When we arrived at the exit the lights dissapeared again. We started back South toward town.

about 1/2 mile away we saw the Yellow lights appear again and now there were four of them. We turned around and got on the interstate and headed North toward McPherson. The four lights were again to our North-Northeast by the time we reached the Elyeria exit the fourt lights seemed to lower from the sky and disappear.

They never came back or we never saw them again.

Bright slow moving star that dissapeared I was taking out the trash when i noticed out of the corner of my eye what i thought was the north star. While walkin i thought to myself, "it looks like its moving, not again!". I didnt even look up yet, but its happed to me before, several times, in different parts of the counrty.

Anyway, i put the trash away then walk back to the pourch before lookin up to see if i was right. Sure eought, bright star, moving slowly, i watched it for at least 30 sec. plus the time i was walking.

As i watched it move, it did what they always do, faded slowly and was gone. About 10 min. later 3 choppers, the double bladed ones fallowed the same path as "it".

Also seen in Topeka KS, Agawam MA, Holton KS, total times ive seen "it" 5. ((NUFORC Note: Sightings are consistent with sightings of satellites, we observe. PD)).

Bright light in the sky flashing. I was just getting ready for bed when I looked out the window and saw what appeared to be something like a stadium light floating in the sky. It wasn't moving just flashing on and off and it was very bright and had an amberish color to it.

Aircraft on approach to KCI were flying just a little higher than the light adn the light i was watching had 4 lights on top and 3 on bottom kind of like a stadium light except for the color and flashing. Watchign the lights I had a warm feeling on my face. When I went to wake up some of my friends that were over and already sleeping I took them over and the light was gone.

In all the light lasted about 3 minutes and it was just a strange sight to see.

Triangle UFO hovering over Kansas City let's see. i was coming into KC from the west via I-70. eventually i noticed this thing on the horizon that looked like a plane, but it wasn't seeming to move.

two lights, not very far apart. i watched it for about five minutes as i drove towards KC and it hardly ever moved much, but when it did it was a quick slide and then it would stop again. eventually i lost sight of it.

but about 5 or 10 minutes later when i got to the suburbs where it was flat again, i saw it. hovering over the industrial area, off to my right. it was at about the height of the top of a radio tower, but there was no tower supporting it.

it looked like a plane, kind of, but it wasn't moving. i could vaguely make out the triangular shape of it, and at each end of the triangle there was a yellow-white light facing down toward the ground. it didn't seem to move as i drove right under and past it, and then i couldn't see it anymore.

on the way back out of town it wasn't there. as a follow-up, i looked for UFO information when i got home and was amazed when i came across a photo of a UFO from Belgium in i think 1990. it looked exactly the same.

i surely hope someone else saw it.

Chevron or V shaped formation of hazy (no lights) objects silently moving at incredible speed. My friend and I were outside enjoying the evening and a couple of cigars. We were looking up at the stars that we saw.

There were very few because we were in the heart of the city. All of the sudden we see this jet roaring towards us coming from the south west and flew overhead. We ran inside to tell my friends fiance about the jet.

She obiviously heard it. About 3 minutes later we went outside to finish our cigars. All of the sudden 3-5 triangular to oval objects flying at high altitude and incredible speed in a chevron or "W" shaped formation.

The objects had no light except for a slight haziness(almost like the lights from the city were reflecting off of them) and made no sound whatsoever. They flew right behind a tree that was blocking our line of sight and I run away from the tree so that I can catch another glimpse of them. By the time I got to where my sight was not obstructed, about 4-5 seconds, they were gone.

Of course, we dismissed them as a flock of geese traveling in a V but the objects were traveling towards the north and they made no honking noises which got us to thinking that these were not geese. The "objects" were also traveling at high altitudes and incredible velocity so we ruled them out as geese. We now believe that the jet was maybe some sort of escort of some sort, maybe sweeping the area with a radar.

We have no explination for the "objects" we saw.

5 objects of circular shape make a W shape in the sky I observed this on campus while heading to my engineering class. I saw 5 "dots" in the sky, at first I thought there were birds flying, but they appeard to be at a very high altitude. They were also moving too fast for a bird.

I doubt that weather ballons move that face too. The 5 dots made a W shape in the sky and were moving south-west north-east 3 of the dots are white, 1 was green, and the last one was either red or pink. I also saw a very clear aircraft passing by them.

It looked like a military aircraft. The event took about two mins. Maybe it's a new experiment in avaiation technology, I don't know.

Hopefully we have an explanation soon.

Me and my husband saw a triangular UFO very closely in KS. It was losing control, then regained and took off. I think it was late summer or start of fall, in 2002.

We were visiting family at my husbands sisters house, then me and him left in my car to go get food for everyone, it was about 8:30 PM. We were in a pretty suburban area. Houses on blocks, apartments, a YMCA right near by.

We were driving along a straight stretch and my husband said "oh my goodness that plane is gonna crash". I thought he was joking told him playfully to shut up and then he said "no seriously." I looked in my rear view mirror and saw a large black object coming overtop of a hill behind us.

It was sort of wobbling side to side like it was about to lose control, and it was dangerously low and close to the power lines, then it seemed to sort of start getting control again. I stopped my car right in the middle of the street, there was no other traffic around. I turned around and started looking out the back window.

It was going very slow and then about not even 200 feet behind my car it stopped and started to just hover. I was like a straight up triangular shape looked almost as if you drew a big letter A, standing straight up in the sky. It was black very sleek and on one side it was completely covered with lights, green, red and yellow.

They were all blinking and there had to be 200 hundred of them. We just set there in awe. Then all of a sudden it took off.

It left so fast you could almost see lines in the air after it (another strange thing I noticed when it took off it made no sound at all, any other aircraft you would have heard take off noise, it just zipped off with nothing). I just went on impulse through my car into drive and tried to follow. I was going about 90 mph trying to follow it.

I saw a ramp unto the highway and by the time I got up on the highway we could only barely see the lights of the UFO way off in the distance. When we got back to his sisters house I couldn't help but try to tell them what we had seen. NO one believed us.

So, we haven't really talked about it since. Has anyone else seen a UFO like that? ((NUFORC Note: Date of sighting is approximate. PD)).

2 sets of bright white lights in a horizontal line, no sound, no movement, approx. 5 minutes It was a dark summer night just outside of the small town of Augusta, Ks. while I was driving home.

I saw 5 very bright white lights in a straight line, which appeared to be just over a tree line, which were stationary. At first it scared me because I thought it may be a large airplane flying extremely low. Then I realized that it was not moving.

I got out of my car and looked. There was no sound. Then, I saw another set of bright white lights just to the north, approx.

150 yards from the first set. Again, no movement, no sound. the lights went off, then on again, then both went out.

This happened approx. 1/4 mile from my home. I had never seen anything like this in the area before, nor since.

I noticed 2 or 3 small airplanes flying from the west, from Wichita. They flew to the approx. area of the siting, then turned around, and flew back towards Wichita.

Lights were seen aprrox. 2 miles S.W.

Steady movement of object/s with sudden disappearance convinced us this was UFO Two bright white ovals, perfectly aligned, flying inside a single circle that appeared to be a force field. Object and/or objects were observed by two individuals for a brief period of time as the objects moved across horizon on steady course then suddenly disappeared, as if at light speed.

On a highway driving home to Colorado from vacationing in Georgia, my partner and I again spotted a silver orb in the distance in the early evening. This time the object seemed to have disappeared and in a blink of an eye was about 500 feet above and in front of our vehicle. It seemed like a flash frame, it was far away then right above, as if it were trying to see us.

Just like that it was far away again, then disappeared for good. It felt as though it had tracked us from Georgia and wanted us to see it. It seemed to have green lights when it came close, but like I said it happened so fast that it was only a split second, and the human eye cannot seem to catch a good look in such a small time.

Truly amazing! The only camera I had was disposable and the photo I tried to take didn't even collect any traces of an image, it was so far away.

Sphereical object, reddish, low in the western sky 10:23 pm I was driving south out of Manhattan, KS and noticed a bright object just above western horizon and stopped at Konza prairie lookout close to I-70 to observe. The object had a reddish color and was quite bright; it did not appear to move in the sky. However, I looked away to another part of the sky and when I turned back it was not there.

I have little to no knowledge about stars, planets, satellites, etc., so there may be a simple explanation for this object. I did look at several websites that indicate objects visible in the night sky, but did not find anything visible at that time and at that location in the sky that night.

White dim lights in formation similar to constallation. On the westside of Wichita I observed what I believed to be a small formation of stars. These stars/lights were very similar to the shape of a constalation.

I noticed, however, that these lights were very close to one another not spaced out at all. The lights were white and slightly dim, like dimmer stars, and could see about 8-10 of them. I kept staring at the object(s).

It was static and did not move for a moment. I looked at the clock and noted that it was 12:37. Then the object(s) started to glide slowly to the ground.

I told the driver to start driving faster because the ojects view was lost behind some trees. As we followed it, it looked as if though either the oject was rotating from left to right or as if the light formations were moving. I noticed at this point that it seemed a little darker than the sky.

I call it an object because the lights seemed to be in sync with each other. as it slowly descended, it quickly disappeared. And then as soon as I couldn't see it anymore, I thought to myself " I want to see it again" instantly, there was a line of light overhead that was white and very thin.

similar to a shooting star, but instead just a line not a streak. we had pulled off of the road at this point. we waited but it didn't return.

I did not hear any sounds or feel any strange sensations. we both dismissed this as some sort of military base test. I have never seen anything like this before in real life.

Long Cigar shaped object that was far off but giant hovered for about 2 min At around 9:10 Pm I noticed a long thin objet in the sky. I believed it to be a airplanes streak from high altitude at first, but as i watched the entire thing moved little by litte. It was far off i nthe distance but looked as if it was close do to its size.

It was an long cigar shaped, and must have been hughe because it was about the length of an airplane at 200 feet in the air, but was noticably far off in the distance. I watched it for 2 min, then went to get a camera, but was gone when i returend about 5 sec later. NO trace of evaporation from airplane or anytihng in the sky.

We were on our boat at milford lake and approximately 4 miles away, not far above the hills we saw a long, perfectly straight shiny object resembling a javalin laying horizontally. It maneuvered straight up slightly, then down, hovered in one place for a few seconds, then moved straight ahead behind a hill so we could no longer see it. This occurred in the day time, the sighting absolutely did not resemble fireworks of any kind, it was way too long and thin to be a helicopter, and could not have been an airplane because of how it stopped and again was far too long.

Whitest flash of Light I've ever seen I was living in Topeka, KS at the time of this event. I was driving home from work about 2am driving down my road. I was about to start breaking to pull into the driveway and all of a sudden this white light flashed right in front of me.

The only way I can describe it is a HUGH sheet of the whitest white i've every seen. Lasted about 15 seconds, if that. My vision was very blurred and I couldn't adjust to the night.

I was really freaked and my dogs were clearly spooked cause they took off running and barking. I stayed in my car for about 10 minutes not wanting to get out. The next day it was all over this AM radio station that talks about this kind of thing, from people around the USA, that saw the same thing.

UFO sighted at 9pm cst flying due north at approx. 100-200 mph inverted cone 3'-5' diameter approx. 400' up in the sky, with no sound.

Two of us where watching a large cumulus clowd to the south of Wichita, Kansas at approximately 9PM CST when a dark ufo like object appeared. It flew straight north at a high rate of speed, probably 100-200 mph. It was gone in approximately one minute.

It was probably 3 feet in diameter on the top and maybe 5 feet in diameter at the bottom, this could only be seen from the side, when it was directly south of us. When it flew over it was circular from the bottom. It had to fly right over the Wichita airport, because we live 4 miles directly north of the airport.

It was somewhere between 200 to 300 yards above the earths surface, and did not have any noise coming from it. It wasn't a bird, balloon or plane. I, have a science education, geology, and have worked for Boeing and Raytheon in the past (7 years total).

We, myself; and my girl friend whom works directly for another aviation company, have lived here for approximately 3 years and have seen many airplanes, and birds (the sedgwick county park is nearby and is full of ducks and geese which fly over our neighborhood daily). Furthermore, I grew up on the farm, and have hunted and raised all kinds of birds, I', 41 years old. What flew over tonight was definitely not a bird, or a plane or a balloon.

It was flying at a very high rate of speed, and was probably flying under radar, without sound. I seen it first while I was laying in the pool looking at the beautiful cumulus cloud directly to the south. As soon as I seen it, I told Susan, "look a UFO", jokingly, and moments later, the joke was not a joke no more, it was a real UFO.

The first I have ever seen, and I have been looking, but have never seen any thing like this.
