Indiana UFO Sightings in 1997

We saw 3 unexplained, white orbs of light hovering over a church we were driving to. We saw them from our car, and they hovered over the building in a tight triangular formation. We tried to explain it away as an airplane, but airplanes don't hover in midair.

Thus, this 3-lighted-orb triangular formation still defies explanation. The sighting lasted about 2 minutes. We saw the same lights a couple of hours later (when we were leaving the church after a concert); these things were still hovering over it! The object consisted of a tight triangular formation of 3 white orbs of light.

The lights hovered in their formation over a church building as we were approaching it in our car. There were three of us in the car heading to that church for a Christmas concert (12/14/97). Two of the observers (sister and mother) are skeptics who do not believe in the existence of UFOs.

I (the third) had seen a UFO many years earlier (July 1984 at camp); I have been open to the possibility of their existence, and can not explain these objects in any earthly sense.

Orange cigar shaped object I was driving home from a friends house when suddenly flash of light caught my eye up in the south western sky. The object was bright orange, cigar shaped, stationary, and sitting at a 45 degree angle in the sky. A area of roughly 100 yards across below it was lit up in a orange light also, almost like the light from a street light.

I stopped my truck in the road and stared at it for 20 seconds. The temperature outside was 25 below 0, the wind was coming out of the west at 17 m.p.

h. Suddenly the light just went out, and I saw nothing more of the object. It wasn't a plane, it wasn't ball lightning, and it wasn't a firework.

Summary : AS WE WERE LINING UP OUR REFLECTOR TELESCOPE WITH POLARIS. SEEN SOMETHING HIT THE ATMOSPHERE, STOPPED FOR 2-5 SEC. AND DISAPPER.

WITHOUT A TRACE. IT LOOKED LIKE A REG. METEOR COMING INTO THE ATMOSPHERE BUT AFTER THE BURN, IT STAYED STILL FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN WE LOST SIGHT OF IT.

RED IN COLOR, ROUND NO LIGHTS OF ANY KIND JUST A DULL GLOW. ONLY SEEN ONE ABOUT 1 1/2" WITH NAKED VIEW. THE NIGHT WAS CLEAR SORRY I CAN'T HELP MUCH, BUT WAS IN A HURRY TO SEE JUPITER.

WE HEARD ABOUT IT ON ART BELL SO IF IT WAS SOMETHING, GREAT.

Summary : Daughter & I were fishing and when we heard & saw a plane I said "look honey, see the plane!" At that time somethuing appeared just behind the plane, yet lowere than the plane was. Luckily I had my video camera and caught it on tape! You tell me what it was it definately wasn't a plane. Not a plane I've ever seen anyway! Can You tell me who might be interested in purchasing this video footage.

You can tell by my daughter this was a weird mishalf, it even frightened her! I had a camera in one hand, fishin pole in the other and 6 year old daughter holding on tight to my left leg! spotted a Unidentified I will send a COPY of this Video Tape provided I have assurance it will not be duplicated, and not used for any nature other than to check its authenticity. This includes scientific research! They can afford to pay this poor old Evansville Boy something for this footage. After watching the video in slow-motion it appears to manuver in an odd fashion.

Directly after my daughter saying it might be another plane, I say it might be a UFO. Still pause tape there; run the tape in slow-mo and watch what you see! Is that strange or what? I don't know of any planes moving like that. Hell, there isn't even a Airforce Base anywhere that close! This was on a bright, clear sunshiney day! My daughter explains what shape she thought it looked like at the end.

I will send the tape upon verification to use only as directed.

Summary : 3 differants types , cluster ,delta , and one in a 3 pointed star design . followed it for six miles . I was trraveling home and witnessed what seemed to be a bright star that was not suppose to be there .

After Getting closer I noticed the main light was going red , blue ,then green . I got about 2 more miles closer and noticed 2 orange lights forming the base of the triangle . As I pulled up along side it it started moving towards the town of New Salem .

I was doing about sixty it speed up and slowed down . It yawed a couple of times . I followed it for about another 5 miles then parked up at my friend s house .

We then viewed it hover for about 1 hour .Right before I left me and him saw the cluster ufo . I am a computer tech , and have never seen one of these before .

Then I went home . Called my boss who is located in rushville area . He saw it to just hovering .

Then I went in my house and set for about another hour . After about 1 hour my C-Band Satelite started to blink in and out . I went out side to check it.

I watched 2 more delta craft . They connected at the main ! light and then rotated in a clock wise motion . Then I saw the 3 edged star fly by the two delta wings .

I went in to try and find the video camera when I went back out nothing was there .

Tire shaped object sighted in the woods of indiana had no lights and moved with purpose. About 8 pm i stopped at a spot on the way home where a pair of great horned owls were nesting. i made this stop many time throughout the summer to watch them.

i had a series one night optic that i use on my boat. When i parked i started to setup my watch point when there was a crashing noise from deep in the woods south of my possion. at first i thought it was a tree falling but very quickly there after a tire shaped dark form rose above the trees.

it rotated from a vertical axess to a horizontal, hovered for about two minutes then moved of and up at a increasing speed. finally dissapearing into the clouds south east at i guess about twenty thousand feet. The object while in sight with naked eye and optic showed what i would describ as a hubcap dom on top rised slightly above the side wall of a tire.

the side wall had several small projections. the tread area were what could have been ports or windows. all along the tread area were tubes or piping boxish and roundish projections.

the next after noon when i got off work i went into the woods and after some searching found a slop busted into the pines where this object had been on edge down to the ground. the crash i heard must have come from a temperat tree which had a very large limb fresh busted. The object was about thirty to forty feet across and maybe twenty feet thick.

we were going north on county road 550w i jay county,and the road number changes at the county line,but i don`t know what it changes to. i looked up to the sky,and there it was,just like some that others have seen. i asked my son if he believed in ufo`s,and he said no,i told him to look,but he wouldn`t.

my two grandsons were in the back of the pickmup truck and they saw it.it looked dull,like brished alumin,and it spun,no noise,and was going very fast.it just dissappeared.

this is a hot spot for ufo sightings.we are out in the boonies.i have spotted many over the 25 years we have been here.

it is not wishful thinking,this is for real.iwould have to fill out many forms to report all of my sightings.the saucer was beautiful.

it didn`t seem to be doing any harm.it was like two streamlined pieplates turned face to face to form the disk.it was spinning at a high rate of speed.

i never carry a camera,so i really can`t prove anything and who is gonna believe two kids and their old grandma?there have been a lot of sightings reported to the jay county sherrif`s department,but they can only do so much.there is a woman in portland who has telescopes and she saw an object one night,and i saw it too.her report was in the paper.

i called her and we were seeing the same things.

Triangle craft with pole sticking out the front with small rectangle wing near end of pole and small ball at end of pole. Color of aircraft silver. Driving north on I69 just before exit 67 the craft first looked like a dot reflecting in the sun (thought to my self, boy that airplane sure could be mistaken for a flying saucer).

Then, as it neared it appeared to be a triangle rapidly desending directly toward me from the front of the car a little less then 10 oclock high. I could not believe my eyes. When it was about 2-1/2 inches wide at arms length it suddenly rotated 45 degrees counter clockwise in less the a second and kind of skidded or suddered in the air and changed direction so it was moving to my left and still desending.

I think it was moving about 100-150 mph. At this time I could see there was a long pole about 2/3 the length of the craft sticking out the front of the craft with a small wing near it's end. A small ball a (1 to 3 feet) was at the end of the pole.

I believe the small wing was used to rapidly change the direction of the craft when it "skidded" in the air. I believe this craft was a man made craft, NOT a flying saucer. The way it moved it must be a new design.

I have never seen anything like it before. I think it was about the size of a fighter plane. It looked like it was made of aircraft metal.

As it moved off to my left I was able to see it from my side window and its view was momentarily blocked by some trees I was passing. I then saw it for a few seconds before it became to low to view. Just after it passed from view I saw a light aircraft desending along the same path to my left so I guessed they both were headed for the Anderson Airport? I saw only the bottom and the rear of the craft.

I saw no engine and no exchust and no landing gear. Please let me know if you have any infomation about this craft. Thanks.

was looking at stares and saw huge streak of fire cross the sky My sister and I were watching the stars one night when we looked up and saw a huge red fire like streak cross the sky. It was to big and fast to be a metor and we never heard anything about it. We could not keep our eyes on it because it went over the tree line.

it must have been at least an inch wide to us as we saw it, that is compareing it to a stare which looks like a 1/64 inch.

Black triangular object observed hovering over a residential area in Kokomo, IN during the summer of 1997. This sighting occurred during the summer of 1997. I wish I remembered a more accurate date, but I did not record any information after it occurred; family and friends basically made me feel embarrassed for telling this story… which is why I have not formally reported it until now.

I was age 17 at the time of this event. In the summer of 1997, I lived in Kokomo, Indiana, and at about 11:30 PM on a weeknight, I was on my way (driving) to a local Kroger store to see my girlfriend off of work. I was on S Dixon Rd.

, heading north as I passed over some train tracks and began approaching a bridge when I noticed a solid bright white light at my 1 or 2-o-clock in the sky. At first I thought it was pretty far away, but as I continued to drive north I realized that the object was now at my 3-o-clock, and so was actually very close to me. At this time, I became curious and turned right on to W King St.

, which appeared to lead directly to the hovering object. As I drove towards the object, I pulled up to a house in the residential area that this object was apparently hovering over. The house was on my right, and so I stuck my head out of the driver’s side window and looked over the hood of my car, up above this house… to see a large black triangular object with 3 bright white lights at each tip, and in the center of the triangle was one large deep red circle (facing downward at the house).

I was fortunate to have been able to observe this object from such a close distance; I remember it being about 150 yards away from me while it hovered over the house. I was also amazed at how quietly the object hovered, as I remember hearing nothing over the sound of my own car engine. I sat with my head out of the window observing the large triangle for about 1½ minutes before the object began to slowly rise and move in a NW direction, after which it then took off at very high velocity.

As far as I know, I was the only observer of this object, as almost all of the houses in the neighborhood appeared to have their lights off and I saw no other cars on the road. Oval unidentified object moving impossibly in the sky I was on the road with my family as a child going back home from Purdue University because my father was attending the University at that time. At my young age of 7 years old, I had no idea what UFOs even were nor did I care. As a normal child would, I looked up at the sky and the environment around me as I was riding in the backseat of my father's car as he was driving on the quiet open roads.

It was a peaceful sunny day and nothing seemed out of place. As I looked up once again to see the clear blue skies, I saw a light that at first glance looked like a a small moon emitting light from itself like a soft glow. The oval aircraft did not emit light from just one part of the aircraft but looked like it was made of light itself, as the sun would shine, although it was clearly a lot less brighter than the sun.

Then I realized it was moving so I believed it must be an aircraft. The moment I realized that it was not a normal aircraft was the way it was moving. T! he oval shaped aircraft started moving erratically from left to right in speeds and angles that would be impossible for a normal or any existing aircraft so I alerted my father who was driving and told him, "look there is a funny airplane in the air.

" He glanced at the aircraft and he did not know what it was. I kept watching the aircraft and it would move left and right almost instantaneously in distances that would be utterly impossible with any object. Even as a child I knew how airplanes moved in the sky and knew all airplanes moved linear.

More intriguingly, after moving bizarrely at incredible speeds, the aircraft disappeared as fast as it had appeared. To this day, I have no explanation for what I had seen but I know for certain that it had been a unidentified flying object. Whether this was a military test aircraft or an alien spacecraft, I can never know but I will always know that what I saw was not a normal aircraft and I am certain there are things tha! t are supernatural or far beyond our technology as we know it.

Upon fu rther investigation on this childhood experience, I have learned that the state of Indiana had military aircraft stations near Lafayette and many others who have experienced the same UFO experience around the same time that I did, as with the more notorious military aircraft bases like the Area 51.

the ufo was trailing the air craft As I was standing on my balcony smoking late at nite, well after dark I saw and jet in landing pattern. As it flew from dark sky into sky that was lighter because of the city lights I saw somthing behind the jet, it was cigar shaped. The sighting lasted only 2 to 3 seconds as it changed color to match the sky it was flying in.

Deep red colored bright light, same intensity as white aircraft landing lights. Exhibited non-ballistic motion. I was working third shift at a machine shop in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

Being the supervisor, I had plenty of free time. I would often step outside and have a cigarette, especially in the summer. All the machines were running well, and the operators had settled in for another long night.

I walked outside and lit up a smoke, watching the U.P.S jets line up for approach into Louisville International Airport.

There were several jets in line for their approach, as well as a few others orbiting, waiting for their turn. I can’t remember the exact number, but I would estimate at least 10. I watched this for a few minutes, and lost interest.

I walked around the parking lot for a few minutes enjoying the night air. When I noticed that all the jets were gone. I know they didn’t all have time to land.

I thought this was quite strange, and began scanning the skies. I noticed a very bright, deep red colored, pulsating light. This light was so bright, that it appeared to ray, like the bright landing lights on aircraft.

The only difference being the color. And I say it pulsated not blinked, because it only dimmed, it never blinked off and on. When I first saw it, it was in the sky to the northwest.

The color got my attention, but the erratic movement kept me interested. It’s the strangest thing I have ever seen. As the object brightened it would move forward or backward, and as it dimmed it became stationary.

The timing between pulses was approximately 1 second. After watching this for at least a minute, it was slowly making it’s way in my direction. I had to get a second opinion on this, so I ran inside the shop and yelled for someone to come outside and see this light in the sky.

I ran back outside thinking it would be gone for sure, but it was still there. And it was a lot closer than when I left. My brother, who was working for me at the time, came outside wondering what the hell I was talking about.

I didn’t even have to point, he immediately saw the object and made a remark along the lines of, ((deleted)). I asked him if he could hear anything, to which he replied that he couldn’t. This thing was nearly overhead and didn’t make a sound.

He also noticed the way it would move as it pulsed brighter, and stop as it dimmed. We both watched this thing for several more minutes, and I wanted to see if my father was awake. He had a pretty good digital camera, and I hoped he could get a picture, so I ran back inside a second time to call him.

I finally got an answer, and I know I sounded a little excited over the phone. Explaining what I had just witnessed took another minute or two. On the way back outside this time, I was positive that this thing would not be there.

But, when I got to the parking lot, it was still there. There were no other aircraft in the sky this entire time. The light slowly made it’s way almost directly over the building, when it suddenly released a round object from it’s underside.

We both gasped at seeing this, it was unbelievable! The round object that was released had no light, but the main object’s bright light reflecting from it betrayed it’s presence. At this very instant both objects disappeared. And no longer than 10 seconds after that, a military jet, (an F-4 Phantom I would guess by the twin engines) flew right through the same spot this object had just occupied.

It was loud, and he was definitely looking for the object, because he dipped his wings left and right. The jet turned around and left in the same direction he came from. We both watched the skies for 15 minutes, and noticed the jetliners starting to line up again.

It was a summer night in Indiana when me and my friend ((name deleted)) was going over to a friend's house. We were going through a small, valley on an old country backroad when I had to use the bathroom real bad so we stopped. I stepped out of the passanger side of my friend's truck and he stepped out his to use the bathroom.

That's when I noticed a bright light in the distance moving back and forth with sudden stops. I showed ((name deleted)) what I seen and we were both shocked. It was a bright light moving back and forth in the sky, pauseing then moving back in sudden burst's.

The light was moving toward us so we watched it. It was low like a helicopter but no sound. It was huge.

I am still not the same after what I saw. When it came over our heads me and ((name deleted)) was looking up. I saw a ship that was almost the size of a football field.

It had 8 sides to it, and deep medal structure. The only sound it made was that of like a beutane lighter. There was a bright light in the front and a green and red light on its side and bottom.

It moved over slowly so tell what that was? I was jumping up and down and asked ((name deleted)) if he was seeing this? He was dumbfounded. I asked after it passed what he saw and he said " Like a stop sign. " and I said "but stretched out a little.

" We turned around to go follow it, but it was gone. Maybe it's goverment but maybe who know's. I am telling you mine and ((name deleted)) experience on that night.

object seen in real life is seen on tv too! It started out we were driving down a dirt road and stopping at a stop sign that led to paved road there was kind of a hill that we were stopped at with our bright light's on i looked up in the sky about 200 ft from the ground i saw a triangle type object with three lights at the corners that were orange and a big spot light that was pointed at the ground i flicked my lights on then off the spot light and all of the lights shut off i rolled the window to see what i copuld hear i thought it might have been a helicopter but there was no noise but my car so i took off and looked to my right and the object turned and the orange lights flashed i started speeding and blew a stop sign and it was still beside me i started going over interstate 69 and it flew over my car i looked up and could see it through my t tops in the middle there was a glowing i could see all the details of then i just slowed down and it took off i told some friends and family but i never really thought there would be anybody that would believe this a year later on unsolved mysteries they had a guy that worked for the government on who was telling about a craft that the governmet admits the designed it but they wont admit to building it the really freaky thing was that this object i saw looked extremely like the drawing he was showing down to every detail it was supposed to run on mercury and be totally silent ((NUFORC Note: Date in May 1997 is approximate. The kids & I saw several bright white lights in a row hovering over the tree tops that were along the edge of a field. This happened a few years ago, and I'm not sure if it was 96, 97, or 98 actually. I wish I had reported it though and always wondered if anyone else had seen it.

It happened after the kids and I were leaving a 4-H meeting in Twelve Mile. I was traveling South on the country road out of the small town. About a mile out of town I saw several bright white lights in a row (approx.

12-16) hovering over the tree tops that were along the edge of a field. I stopped the minivan and asked the kids "What IS that?" We all sat and looked at it, trying to make out what the string of lights were connected to. The lights were all even to each other and didn't bounce, flash, flicker, drop or rise in the air.

Judging from the height and width of the tree line and field, this object was at least as long as a football field, if not bigger. I turned my van off and opened my window all the way. There was no audible sound coming from it.

I knew it couldn't have been any type of known aircraft because it was much too large. As we watched these lights it seemed that the object they were on must have been a disk shape because the lights all began moving slowly and steadily off to the right. As they moved off to the right, each light to the far right would disappear one by one.

It was as if the object was disk shaped and was only lighted on one side and as it turned the lights disappeared out of our view, blocked by the solid object itself. I have seen a video taped sighting of something that looked very similar to what I saw. I think I've seen the video tape on Unsolved Mysteries and a documentary on the Discovery Channel.

I really want to know what this is. I've never seen anything like it and my kids remember it vividly too. ((NUFORC Note: Date is approximate.

Summary : 4 UFO's spotted, In Northwest Sky, near the Big Dipper constellation. They all moved in roughly the same direction.(N-NE) The objects,from our point of view, appeared to be no more than balls of light, they were up at a high altitude possibly.

No noise accompanied their fly-by, and as theyflew by, they dimmed in and out before dimmingfor the last time. This final dimming occurred before the objects reached the horizon.(04:28)The object crossed south to north in awobbling fashion.

Daytime up close ground sighting I had just left my parents house heading to school I was on a gravel road only maybe a mile from my parents house, when I looked up in front of me between the guardrails of the bridge ahead was a small saucer. It hovered maybe two or three feet off the ground and it completely fit between the metal guardrails of the bridge. The bottom and top were flat and they sloped into a saucer shape like 2 tea saucers put together.

The very classic saucer shape you think of. It was gunmetal black in color, it did not reflect any light whatsoever even though the sun was out. I also noted there was absolutely no riveting it appear as a completely solid looking piece of metal.

Nowhere did I see a place of entry or window. I slowed my car to a stop and immediately proceeded to back up into a driveway that I recently just passed. Once I had turned around and started going the other direction I began having anxiety that it was following me so I decided to look in my rearview mirror as I did, I noticed the craft had lifted it up and had hovered above one of the guardrails so now it was only half visable because trees were covering the ditch side of the bridge.

The next thing I remember is walking out of my dark bedroom and calling my mother who worked at my high school and telling her I had seen a UFO. She proceeded to yell at me for being late and told me to get to school. I honestly don't remember weaver looking at the time, driving to school,going to school that day, or telling anyone about the incident other than my mom.

I never talked about it much after that. I have only recently talked about this incident. Only my closest couple friends and my parents know.

It was not only till recently someone asked me if I lost any time. I for whatever reason had never even considered asking myself that question but after this person brought it up I have realized I do not have any memory from the time I looked back into my rear view mirror until the time I was calling my mother on the telephone I have a very brief recollection of opening my eyes in my dark bedroom and walking out to call my mother. Things to note: I was a senior in 1997, This happened a little before 8am on a school morning on a gravel road with a small cow pasture on one side and corn or bean field on the other.

I do remember the sun being out. I did not hear the object make any noise when it raised above the guardrail. It may be notable that I live approximately 40miles south of Grissom Air Force Base.
