Burnt circle in field I'm sorry but I don't know the exact date, or even year, because this happened in my youth. (The 70's} We lived by a cornfield and the corn was still green, so it must have been some time during the summer. This happened in Yorktown Indian, right beside walnut street, a few miles out side Muncie, about 40 miles from Indianapolis.
I remember that my parents would invite my grand parents over to watch the strange lights and vehicles in the sky. I remember seeing a few cigar shaped objects in the sky my self, but this isn't the main part of my sighting. As a kid the neighborhood children and myself would play in the cornfields.
Most of us knew about the lights, but being young we really didn't think much of it. What we did find that that struck us as odd was a circle burned into the corn, far out in the field. It was as I remember a perfect circle of charred corn stalks about six inches wide, and the circle was about fifteen to twenty feet across.
The corn was pressed flat, as was the unburned corn inside the circle. We knew the field pretty well and there was no farm machinery that went through the field during those summer months. Out side the circle were sets of footprints that led out of the circle, but not very far from it then back to the circle.
What we found so unusual about them to us was that they were maybe 4 to six inches deep, with no tread marks, the bottom of the prints were flat with no tread that would be on a normal shoe or farmers boot. On the surface of the footprint in the dirt was something that looked like green moss. There were no tire marks leading to or away from the circle.
The soil wasn't soft, we didn't leave prints this deep, while we ran and played in the field, and that's what we found odd also. I brought my mother out to the site so she also witnessed it. She didn't know what to make of it ether.
My older brother was one of us kids that saw it also. There are no military bases in the area, or even a airport of any size, so I don't think it was some "government project". As far as I know the field is still there, and Yorktown is a very small town sleepy farm town, so I don't think anything has been built over the area.
If needed I can locate the other people that I knew at the time to verify the story, (the other children, by brother, and mother. Thanks for Listening, ((name deleted)).

Cigar shaped craft - similar sighting listed in same area This happened when I was about 9 years old. I was standing behind my dad's house in Fairmount, Ind., looking to the NW/W.
I witnessed 2 "cigar" shaped objects slowly moving/hovering in the sky. It was funny because I thought that they looked like the spaceship that Marvin the Martian flew in the Bugs Bunny cartoons. Since I was just a kid, I always dismissed this incident until I read another post about a "cigar" shaped sighting in Yorktown Ind.
around the same time. Yorktown isn't very far from Fairmount (about 25 miles). I know that is story isn't very exciting, but I thought it was interesting that it was similar to something someone else saw in the same area.
So . you never know. Just thought that I would share.

That night east of C. City on US 30 in the 70's We had gone to Ohio earlier in the day to deliver custom vans and trucks. We were returning to the Lake areas and heading east on US 30 outside Columbia City/Ft Wayne.
Off in the distance we could see a slow moving glowing object up fairly high heading east over the double highway. When it got closer it was lower and lower to the highway. There was five of us in the car and we were so shocked that I pulled over and we got out of the car to look.
It was triagular shaped, lightly glowing underneath and you could see metal pockets and various pipes, etc. We heard some noice, but not a jet sound or engines. As it was almost completely over us and larger than both sides of the double highway, we were scared and we got back in the car and took off fast.
We all agreed that we knew we all saw a "UFO" that night and there was five of us who saw the same thing. One passenger, however, saw the same thing coming across a corn feild near her home later that evening and was frightened that it was coming for her. We will never forget it and when we see each other now 30 years later, we always mention it to each other where no one will here us.

It changed shape from a cigar shape to a circle and back again. After reading so many of your sightings sent in, I remembered my Dad and I standing in our yard and Dad says "Look at that thing, it's changing!" It was indeed changing shape, from a cigar shaped to a circle and to a cigar shape again. It appeared to be "squirting" along, like the shape change was part of it's locomotion.
This was a clear sky with a few high clouds. The thing appeared to be metallic, but it didn't show the sun reflecting off of it like an airplane. It appeared dull.
Was going pretty fast, but not so fast as to make it difficult to see. Jets now go faster than it was going. Dad mumbled something about a UFO, but I think he was joking.
I was 10 or 11, and am 35 now. I didn't think any more of it untill I read that other people had seen UFO's that change shape! Thanks for all your time and dedication! ((name deleted)) ((NUFORC Note: Date is approximate. PD)).

Space ship in a dream. I was between 10 & 13 years old, when I had this dream about a Triangle space ship. It started at this grave yard I have never been too or seen before.
I found myself sneaking through the grave yard not knowing why but just kept going. Then I seen a few other people doing the same as me just going forwared not knowing why. Then I noticed we were all heading towareds a pond, up by the waters edge is where we all went.
It was weird I remember we were not speaking to each other, but I was not scared. Then all the sudden a man in white was standing above the water and started talking to us, he said he brought us all here to tell us we were using nuke power the wrong way. He said we would change that some day, and we all got a book.
then he called me up there with him I stood beside him and then this bright lite came up out of the water beside him. It was like a big triangle. Then it was over.

Stationary object with 5 sweeping search lights at treetop level In March of 1979, my wife and I along with our Siberian Husky, went home on spring break, for a weekend backpacking trip into the nearby National Forest. It was an area that we visited often. I was going to a junior college and my wife was a clerk for a county auditor at that time.
The weather was typical for that time of year: cool, misty, and overcast. We were in a remote part of the forest that had scattered roads and residences but was hardwood forest overall. Our camp was about a mile or two from the trailhead, in a spot we had been before.
After arriving at our site, I started setting up our tent; it was about an hour before sunset. The sky was gray, and the daylight was beginning to fade; the ground was soft from recent precipitation. Our campsite was in an opening along the side of a gently sloping ridge and the tent faced a northerly direction.
As I finished with the tent and unpacked our meal, I noticed lights in the forest canopy on the next ridgeline. We sat down in front of our tent to eat our meal and watched the lights in the trees. The dog even sat with us and watched attentively.
There were five lights in the forest canopy; four of them were lower and in a horizontal row, close together. They made a mechanical motion, sweeping back and forth like a slow pendulum on a tall grandfather clock. They moved independent of one another without overlapping the one on either side; they aimed out and downward at about a forty-five-degree angle as if they were on the side of an object.
All the lights had the same color of a harsh, white appearance of a mercury vapor light in daylight, and they aimed towards the forest floor below them. The fifth light was above the other four and it also swept back and forth, pointing below as well. Occasionally though, it would stop and rise briefly above the canopy, pointed in a random direction, and got bright for a moment that seemed very intense.
Then it would dim and bend down to resume its random sweeping motion again. The pattern of movement for all five lights repeated continuously. I did not hear any sound or noticed any physical interaction with the surrounding forest.
When it was beginning to get dark, my wife was tired from the long trip home and the hike to our campsite; she decided to get in the tent to sleep after watching this for a half an hour. I stayed up for another half an hour and turned in when darkness fell. The dog sat quietly watching the lights, she would not come to the tent when I called her but continued watching the activity.
She never made a sound. My general impression of the lights was that their motion made them appear to be on appendages of an object in the treetops. This grouping never moved from the position we first observed it in.
If the lights were on the top and bottom of solid object, we could not see anything distinct due to the small twigs and branches we viewed them through; the spring buds had not yet emerged. The higher light extended just to the edge of the canopy, while the four lower ones were slightly less visible. It is difficult to estimate the possible size of what may have been there without more information.
As best as I recall, the lights were no farther apart than the width of two fingers held up at arm’s length. I have never heard of a similar event. Overall, I saw the lights for more than an hour.
We slept well and, in the morning, I got up and went outside for a look around; there was no sight of the lights. I hiked to the location the lights appeared to come from; I had taken a compass bearing before nightfall. I walked the bearing and counted my paces until arriving at the estimated position.
I judged the distance from our camp to the location to be about two hundred yards. It was on the adjacent ridge that was flat and open, with widely spaced mature trees; there were no tracks, no cuttings from the trees, nor any debris. There was no way to silently get into this site with a truck or leave without getting stuck in the soft ground.
After returning to camp, we packed up and walked back to our car and drove home. I have told others about our experience on four occasions. We told our parents first, four of my work associates next, and finally a professional person that I trusted.
I thought I would be able to discuss it sensibly, but they laughed or doubted the story each time. Considering recent events and the ease of filing a report on this website, I have decided to put it on the record.
