Florida UFO Sightings in 1998

Large green fireball seen through clouds falling diagonally for 3 seconds and terminating in a flash of white light. I am not a trained observer, but I am an amature astronomer. I have seen many shooting stars, and this didn't look anything like a shooting star.

This is the second green fireball I have seen falling. The last was in the first week of Nov. 98 and that sighting lasted for only a second.

That fireball was clearly visible about 30 degrees above the horizon and large enough to see it's head and tail destinctively. Interestingly the tail flared out and was wider farther from the head of the fireball and much thiner near the head. However the last green fireball which I saw on the Dec.

28, 1998 could not be made out clearly because of a dark rainy sky. But I could see a large glowing green light falling in or just behind the clouds above and in front of me as I drove west on 50 outside of Orlando. The fireball *seemed* to have fallen well into the lower parts of the atmosphere when it terminated.

Unfortuneatly I have no way of estimating how quickly it was moving or how far away it really was. It just seemed close. Compared to a shooting star it moved very slowly.

And seemed to just be falling. After about 3 seconds it terminated with a brilliant flash which lit up the clouds in a white light. Though the fireball itself was green.

Big round red pulsating, plasma like ball in S. FL heading west & disappearing from view My husband & I went out to a local restaurant to meet with out of town relatives that came for the Holidays. This was a family restaurant where no liquor is served.

Just a regular night out with family members in their 40's & 50's and a couple of kids. I went out to the parking lot to get some family photos I left in the car, when I looked next to me I saw a couple & another woman, not with the couple, looking up in awe & when I looked up I saw a round red pulsating ball just hovering right above us (wouldn't move, like it was watching us) facing north, s. of Miami intl airport close to our home in Coral Gables.

It looked alive, like a red plasma of sort - no other colors, no tails & no sound. It was about 2000 feet up in the air & it was big & beautiful red blob. It was about 4 full moons in size.

I was in total awe & wanted my husband to see this so I ran inside the restaurant to get him & he sensed my desperation & came right out(took about 2 seconds)& the red ball was moving west (towards the everglades) becoming smaller & smaller until it was the size of a little red pinhead & it disappeared west somewhere. Well, I'm glad I had my husband witness this with me so he didn't think I was crazy. We were sort of in shock and casually walked inside,remained silent & didn't say anything for fear of the family thinking we were nuts.

We have kept this to ourselves for about 5 yrs. We just hope that the other 3 unknown people in that parking lot that night will come out & say something about this spectacular event that has changed the way we view life. ((NUFORC Note: Date is approximate.

Triangle UFO sighting When I was about 13 years old, I was riding in the passenger seat of my mother's car and looking out the window. It was night time, probably around 8pm, and I saw a triangular object hovering in the sky. I remember there being 3 red lights, one at each point of the triangle, and it may have had a light in the center but I cannot remember.

It was hovering in the sky, barely moving, and it must have been relatively low because it appeared fairly large. Then about 8 seconds after I spotted the object, it shot off into the sky with a flash of light and disappeared. It made a sort of zig-zag maneuver, in the shape of an "S" or a "Z", as it flew away.

It was moving so quickly that it was gone within a second and all I could see was a faint light trail. I have always been a skeptic so I immediately began scanning the area for any kind of tower or aircraft that could explain what I saw but there was nothing in the area. This sighting was over 10 years ago and I beli! eve it was around Christmas time but I can't remember the actual date.

I am 25 years old and a member of the US Armed Forces. I consider myself a very rational person but I cannot explain what I saw. ((NUFORC Note: Witness indicates that the date of the sighting is approximate.

Football field size saucer with blinking white lights, made no sound as it traveled across the sky near Boca Grande, FL My fiance and I were driving on the main road out to Boca Grande, FL at about 10:00 pm. We were the only car on the road at the time. We both noticed a weird object in the sky in front of us, it was huge, kind of like a big craft (saucer type shape).

There were white blinking lights, they were unevenly spaced on the craft. We both exclaimed, "Pull over", which we did. We got out and looked up at the saucer, but it was not making any sound at all.

It must have been the size of a football field, but not a sound. It moved rather slowly over the trees and disappeared from our view. It was hard to tell exactly what shape it was or exactly how large it was, but it was definitely nothing we could explain.

There are no airports or military areas anywhere near Boca Grande. We knew we had seen a UFO. ((NUFORC Note: Witness indicates that the date of the event is approximate.

silent ship close enough to hit with a rock(but i didn't) i was in my back yard w/my dog (german shepard) and when i looked up the stars were gone and then i noteced a ship about the size of a football field (at least) in the middle was a section that came down (like a control station) serounding this section was what appeared to be windows(like on a comerical jet) but as the windows went toward the back they changed to yellow and then red. the ship was only about 40' above me and did not make a sound or even a breeze,my dog did not even notice it and my dog will bark if there is a person a block away. the ship appeared to be silver--there is wooded lots around my house,my house is on a corner.

the ship begain to travel very slow to the east, i called my mother down the street when the ship started to move , i lost it in the trees(well it just disapeared) it took me about 45 min to an hour to call the local police(i am a retired new york city cop) then found out that a cop from Desoto county also saw it and said that on the map it came from my direction. there was about a second of it on the news and said it crashed into lake okeechobee and thats all it was talked about--someone called my house at about 0300-0400 sayin i should look out for a blue surburban(took it with a grain of salt) no one ever returned my calls. i also believe i have been abducted and looking back now i believe its been going on as long as i can remember.

It was 11:33 PM on Wednesday 12/16/98 on our way home from Miami to Marathon Florida. At about 89 mile marker,my wife said : Do you see that? She was looking out the very right side of the windshield. When she first saw the object it was very white and very bright.

It was not as brilliant when i first saw it in the middle of the windshield. At first I thought it to be an airplane in trouble with it landing lights on , but what was troubling is that it looked like the lights were reflecting in a cloud or fog. It seemed to be coming more towards us,then started moving across our windshield to the left.

A tractor trailer has stopped at the side of road and I pulled up ahead.I turned off teh engine and got out to see if we could hear engines,we heard nothing. It kept on going and it looked like it separated into at least 8 to 10 small white lights going in the same direction.

My first thought was formation aircraft,then everything went dark over the ocean.I might add that it was very large and would think it was at an allitude of about 1 to 3 thoudsand feet. The dirction of travel was from northwest to southeast and then northeast when it disappeared.

The night was clear cool, stars were out about 62 degrees. I will try to illustrate and mail to you a drawing of what we saw.

We saw approx. 12 comet-like objects moving from the SW to the NE. They were in a ununiformed formation, & all had massive comet-like tails.

On 12/16/98 2 friends and I were fishing on Long Key, Florida. We were fishing from a bayside dock, and at approx. 11:30pm we witnessed a phenomenal event.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw the sky light up, when I turned my head I thought I was seeing things. I immediately got my friends attention and we all stared in amazement. There seemed to be approx.

12 objects moving from the southwest (Keywest area) towards the northeast. Each one of the objects had a comet-like trail behind them, this trail made them all seem to blend together into one bright blob. They were in a disorganized formation and they moved at a constant and straight forward path.

They looked to be a yellowish-white coloration similar to that of a bright star. They took up a very large portion of the sky. We watched them for approx.

30 seconds. We first saw them half-way through the sky and watched them fade out over the horizon. Each of the objects appeared to be round or comet like in shape.

From our vantage point they seemed to be much larger than stars, planes or even the Hailey's Comet. Considering that only a few hours earlier we started bombing Irag, our first thought was that it was a large group of missiles. They moved much slower than a shooting star or meteor, however, they moved faster than a typical airplane or helicopter.

After witnessing the event the three of us starting driving home. We saw a car stopped on the side of the road about a 1/4 of a mile from where we witnessed the event. We stopped to ask if they needed help.

They said that they were fine, and asked us if we had seen the lights in the sky. We were thrilled that someone else had seen the lights. As we were talking about the lights, their road-side assistance pulled up.

The driver of the road-side assistance was estatic, he too saw the lights. The driver told us he watched the lights for over a minute (from one side of the sky to the other). As we were driving home we wondered how many others had seen this event tonight.

Three or four red lights int he shape of a squre or triangle way up in the sky moving at a rapid pace. I was looking up in the sky from the balcony of the Disney Beach Club Resort when I saw what appeared to be three or four red lights in a square or triangle shape moving rapidly across the sky. The distance between the lights appeared to be about 1/4 inch to me.

It was way up in the sky - that I know. I do not know the shape of the object but only the shape the lights formed - either a square or triangle. Sorry but I simply can't remember if it was three or four red lights.

I think it was four red lights in a square shape. Also I am not sure of the date. I know it was either 12/15 or 12/16 between the hours of 11pm and 12pm.

If I had to pick a date I would say 12/15. What I did not forget however is how fast it appeared to be moving across the sky. I would say about 20 times faster than a plane at that distance.

3 lights with a very large flame trail traveling west to east We first saw the object to the south of us traveling from west to east. At first we thought it was over twards the airport but a later call from a friend in Naples stated it was south of him. It had at least 3 light balls inside what looked like a flame envelope with a flame tail.

It to me had the look of a space craft entering the atmosphere. total time it was in visual range was 5-8 seconds. All witnesses are profesional security officers, including the owner.

illuminating firey red ball that slowly sunk over the bay between Pensacola and Gulf Breeze It was that evening that I saw something that still has me wondering to this day. A bright red ball that illuminated the sky a little and drifted down over the bay. I was playing a joke on my sister and her friends to try and scare them.

We had an awning that would roll down to protect the glass door. It was rolled down and I was going to beat on it to scare them in the living room. I first noticed what looked like a plane's headlamp coming at me, but that was normal because I live near the airport.

So I started pushing on the awning a little to see if anyone would notice when I realized it was getting brighter outside. I look back at where I saw the plane and there was a bright red ball in the sky slowly sinking over the bay. It seemed so close that I was too scared to run 10 ft to the garage door! I beat on the awning like crazy until one of the people there opened it and saw the object before it went behind the trees.

10 minutes later there was a huge thuderstorm that spawned severe thunderstorm warnings. It was really strange. I've never really put much confidence in the whole extra-terrestrial thing but I know I saw something that night and struck me as very strange that other people here reported similar sightings.

Many people here I know have said at some point or another they have seen something wierd in the sky, mainly at night. Not all are valid obviously, but many people in the Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, Navarre and Pensacola Beach area seem to have seen a red firey looking object moving around the bay or gulf.

AN ANOUNCEMENT WAS MADE ON LOCAL NEWS OF REPORTS OF STRANGE LIGHT. WTVJ,CHANNEL 6,THEY HAVE VIDEO.ODD HOVERING LIGHT,NOT A STAR.

WTVJ STILL HASN'T ID. SAW STRANGE WHITE LIGHT IN SE HORIZON, AFTER LOCAL NEWS WTVJ, CHANNEL 6 ANOUNCED THEY HAD RECIEVED MANY CALLS. THEY SHOWED VIDEO OF THIS LIGHT ON TV, AND STILL CAN'T EXPLAIN IT.

THE LIGHT SEEMED TO PULSATE AT TIMES. IT WAS WHITE. I DON'T OWN A TELESCOPE, BUT DID VEIW IT THROUGH A PAIR OF BINOCULARS.

IT APPEARED TO BE ROUND AND HAVE SOME SORT OF LINES OR STRIPES THROUGHOUT.

wHITE STREAK AS IF A METEOR EXCEPT WENT FROM GROUND ELEVATION TO A 45 DEGREE ELEVATION CROSSED IN FRONT OF A AIRLINER WHICH HAD JUST TAKEN OFF 6:09 AM 12/1/98 S.W.Florida skys clear still dark no other lights in area.

I live close to S W Regional airport. Heard a plane takeoff and as usual they come over our home on the way to Atlanta.I watched the plane come over the house out my window and as it passed looking at tail section a white streak of light left the ground moving SW TO N.

NE Object crossed in front of airliner which veered to the left as if startled .This object was moving at a tremendous speed and left a trail behind.This only took seconds.

First believed to be a meteor but immediately realized that they dont come from ground And go up at a 45 degree angle .Was as if a missle had been shot at the aircraft, but no sound other than the jet.I heard no air to ground transmission over my scanner of the sighting.

Aircraft was approx 1/2 mile from my home.Trail from object was long as comparison to the aircraft about 5 times the length.Never seen anything like this.

Bright burning object with tail originating in northern sky heading east. Orangeish colored object with a tail originating in the northern sky. Lost tail on the way heading east.

Regained tail briefly in the northeastern sky then seemed to explode. ((NUFORC Note: The description seems to us to be not inconsistent with a contrail behind a high-flying aircraft, which is reflecting the setting sun.)).

What we saw was not exactly oval, but larger at the top. We were crossing 7th street, between CHAPS and the General Store. What we saw was not exactly oval, but larger at the top.

It was a bright yellow/gold object hovering about 100 feet up. It made a faint eep sound which is what attracted our attention. I have to tell you it was something to see! It moved off after a minute or so, slowly at first but then very fast.

My wife quite ((deleted)). It blurred right before it sped off. It seemed lit from within.

Viewed a delta shaped craft in the SE sky traveling south, craft made no noise and flew smoothly before banking and disappearing On Nov 18, 1998 my best friend and I were observing the Leonid meteor shower. At aprox 24:00 movement in the SE sky caught my attention and I observed a grouping of three lighter area of color moving south. These areas weren't lights, merely lighter color reflecting ground lights.

In between these areas there were no stars visible and you could just make out the shape of the craft At this point my friend also observed the object. The craft moved fairly quickly with no noise continuing south until it banked to the west and disappeared from sight.

Observing metor shower. 10 minutes into obsevation an object was seen to pass from NW to SE all lights extingwished. Estimate no more than 1500 feet in altitude.

Black with traces of ash lines. No noise. Looked like a stealth type of aircraft.

Followed the same flight path as commerical aircraft aproaching Orlando International Airport. Very unusual shape. Draw an X lay it on its side and connect the two long sides.

At first thought it was a large Bird like a Blue Herron gliding. It was much larger and true to course no movment to sustain flight. U.

OBSERVED TRANSLUCENT TRIANGULAR OBJECT MOVING NORTH TO SOUTH DIRECTLY OVERHEAD, APPROXIMATELY TWO HAND WIDTHS WIDE. I was outside in the back yard of my house looking for possible meteors, at the time looking directly overhead. A translucent object, apparently triangular in shape and about two hand widths wide, no lights whatsoever, moved through my field of view from north to south.

It was moving so rapidly that it quickly was disappearing over the house, so I ran around to the front yard and could still see it continuing directly south out of sight. I doubt that I would have even seen the object if I had not been looking directly at it when it went by. The whole event lasted only about 15 to 20 seconds.

There was no sound whatsoever connected with its passing, but stars could be seen through the object as if looking through a semi-transparent piece of glass with no clean edges. I observed no other lights or objects (and very few meteors). I am prompted to write this report (so late after the event) by the many similar sightings observed of translucent triangular shaped objects since then, most recently in Wisconsin on July 6th.

I am a newspaper reporter. A resident came to me 11/19 and said he filmed a "ball of fire" traveling slowly at high altitude toward horizon in southwesterly direction. He then filmed a second streaking silver ball that left a white contrail.

The person who filmed this said he was pulling into the driveway, saw something dramatic in the sky, and grabbed his camera. It looked as broad as a thumb at arms length and left a bright fan-shaped tail. He said he also saw another bright object and when the first object went over the horizon, he turned the camera on the second.

It looked more defined, like a shiny, metal spot (shape unknown) leading a white contrail. I'm a newspaper reporter. I will be writing a story more focused on the excitement of seeing something dramatic -- but the illumination of the sun could be playing tricks on contrails.

Flying V seen by multiple wintesses in during meteor shower. We were all sitting outside watching the meteor shower. As we looked up to see the meteor flash by, a flying V flew under the meteors vapor trail.

If we hadn't been looking up in that direction we would have never seen it. It was almost like it was translucent with dark brown overtones. This craft looked just like a boomerang except it was about 500ft wide.

It made no sound and had no lights. It was very erie to say the least. The object appeared to be pretty high in the air moving at a higher than average speed( in comparison to an airplane).
