Headland, AL

Full Report Text:

Extremely bright light and no noise. I don't remember the exact date as it was well over a year ago but I remember what I saw like it was yesterday. I was traveling north on Hwy 431 on my way from Dothan, AL to Atlanta to visit a friend before Christmas.

Just outside Headland I saw a very large, very bright white light directly overhead. For lack of a better description, it was like a strobe light but was not flashing. It was constant and as I got closer it was so bright that it was painful to look at it (I was trying to see exactly where it was coming from).

It was a clear, cool evening with no cloud cover and there were no street lights, businesses or billboard advertising signs in the immediate area (my first guesses). I slowed down to about 10 mph and looked for something that would give me some idea of what it was (I was afraid to stop and get out of the car). I saw what appeared to be the an outline of dark metal (black or dark gray) several yards forward of the light which was still bright and non-flashing.

I opened all of the windows on my SUV and heard no sound other than my vehicle's engine. The "object" appeared to be approximately 100 feet above the highway and must have been huge as I was never able to see anything more than the outline on one side. My guess is that it was either triangular or chevron in shape and appeared to be moving south very slowly.

There were no other lights besides the white one. I observed this "object" for approximately 15 minutes before I decided to continue heading north and watched it in my rear view mirror, until it was just a faint glow. I was almost 40 at the time and have never seen anything like this in my life.

I like to believe there is a logical explanation for just about everything but have not been able to explain this one. When I came home a couple days later I asked around to see if there had been anything on the local news or in the paper about anything strange that weekend and nobody had heard anything. I would have reported this immediately but had no idea where to go that I wouldn't be thought of as "nuts".

I recently found this site by clicking on a link in an unrelated story and after reading some of the other accounts here thought I would share this. ((NUFORC Note: Witness indicates that the date of the sighting is approximate. PD)).

Full Report Text:

Two very bright solid orange lights fly overhead with no sound. As I arrived home I noticed two very bright orange solid lights moving steadily across the sky from west to east. Both lights were identical and brighter than plane lights and not blinking as a plane's would.

I've never observed anything quite like this and called my Mom out to witness the event. The sky was partly cloudy with a bright moon as we viewed the two lights appear to move about the speed of a low altitude plane, but there was no sound whatsoever. As the two lights went behind some trees the first one disappeared, but we viewed the second light continue in its path and appear to move in front of the clouds.

We watched the one remaining light continue off into the east and into heavier clouds while glowing very brightly. Occasionally the solid orange light would flicker slightly but continue to glow brighter than anything I'm use to seeing in the sky. I deliver newspapers at night and am use to viewing planes at night as well as meteor showers and even satellites and I'm positive these were not astronomical in nature, and not any kind of aircraft I've ever witnessed before.

Saw a big light in sky moving a bit and then it left VERY quickly. I was outside my apartment toward the parking lot smoking a cigarette with my husband. My 2 children (9 & 1) were there as well.

Over the neighboring apartment complex I saw what I at first thought was a very bright star. I noticed that it was slowly moving so my next inclination was to think that it was a plane as we live only a few miles froma small airport. But it was moving much too slowly to be a plane so close to us.

I called my husband's attention to it. It would stop moving then move a little and so on. Then it SHOT off.

gone just like that. It was gone so quickly that I thought it had to have been covered up by a fast moving cloud. But I looked around at the sky and there were no clouds.

It was weird. ((NUFORC Note: Date is approximate. PD)).

Montgomery, AL

Full Report Text:

Bright moving light spotted east of Montgomery, AL in early a.m. ~2 hours before sunrise Very bright relative to normal star brightness spotted in sky ~45 degrees from horizon due east of Montgomery.

Light was moving slowly relative to a star appearing near it in the sky. After observing this movement about 10 seconds, the light stopped. Several minutes passed by and the light remained stationary.

I figured if I went to my office (from the parking lot where I initially spotted the light) and the light was not there, classifying the light as an 'unidentified' flying object would be justified. I went to my office, looked out the window and only saw the relatively dim star near where the light was, but the bright light was gone. Please contact ((e-address deleted)) to report similar observances.

If the UFO appears again during the next couple weeks, I will consider purchasing a telescope/camcorder to make a video for your viewing pleasure. ((NUFORC Note: The ISS was not visible from Montgomery, AL, on October 04, 2004, so that could not have been the cause of the sighting. PD)).

Observed light at high altitude change directions in an impossible way. Providing security on the beach after Hurricane Ivan, I was on the beach when it was becoming dark. I do not remember the exact time, but there was only one star in the sky, no lights from the beach due to lack of electricity and curfew.

I was lying on my back on a ATV talking to a family member when I observed a light, or what looked more like an reflection of something large moving in an north western direction. I thought to myself, thats fast, and when the object immideatley moved in an more than 90 degree direction at the same speed, I hung up the phone. For the next 10 minuites I observed the object stop, move quickly to another location and stop.

It appeared that the object was positioning itself. About this time the stars were very visible and it aligned itself with small adjustments to two other stars and seemd not to move again.

It was so quiet the cattle in the field didn't even run from it. I went walking, I always did around 9pm bc that's when the sun would go down and it would cool off. I looked in the sky behind Curtiston- not sure of the spelling- Primary School and saw a shape moving over some trees and saw the wind blowing but heard nothing.

I jogged down the street beside this school and looked into a field and it was much lower to the ground and looked to be lifting off. It was floating. No sound and no wind now.

It was Black, no lights, looked solid- I didn't see any windows or lights or anything-, and was a perfect triangle. I tried to spot it again, but it was gone. ((NUFORC Note: Date may be approximate, although the witness does not indicate that fact.

Orange Lights over Gulf of Mexico (Orange Beach, Ala.) While sitting on the beach at approximately 10:15 p.m.

CST in Orange Beach, Ala., many people on the beach and I oberserved orange lights to the southwest over the Gulf Of Mexico. They were too high in altitude to be a boat or oil rig.

They did not flicker or move, so they could not be a flare. There were four or so orange dots with the center two closer together. They appeared suddenly and disappeared instantly thirty seconds or so later.

They never appeared to move at all. They were just a solid orange color. I called the local news agencies the next day to report my sighting.

They said that The Blue Angels were based close by in Pensacola, Fla. and could have been practicing out over the Gulf Of Mexico. If this was the case, wouldn't the lights have changed position? Wouldn't the intensity of the light change? I'm really stumped by what I have witnessed.

((NUFORC Note: We suspect that no aerobatic team practices precision aerobatic flight at night. The lights may have been flares, but that is only a guess. PD)).

triangle of white and red lights As we were driving back from fueling up my daughter's car before school tomorrow, I saw lights through the tops of the trees. A few seconds later, when we came to a stop sign and a clearing, I saw the strange-looking thing flying SE to NE not too high up in the sky. It was composed of four white lights and two red lights, none of which were flashing, and it was traveling quite fast.

It seems like it would have been triangular in shape with one white light at the forward point, three white lights in a row behind it, and the two red lights at the opposite back corners. There were no green lights and no 'headlights' that we frequently see on aircraft landing at this time of night. At arm's length, it was about the size of the end joint of my thumb (about one inch).

A pure guess about altitude would be about 1,000 feet. It seemed really close, to me, closer than aircraft usually fly. I certainly would love to know what it was.

If you'd like, I'll mail a drawing.

Bright light moving and fading to dark, like high altitude rocket thruster, seen briefly near Cassiopea. While stargazing on said night with friend, friend went inside for few minutes. We had been gazing at Casseopia, and a light in that direction caught my eye.

A few degrees SW of the "center" of Casseopia, it had not been there moments before. It was a little brighter than Mars had been at its closest approach to Earth, but white. Startled to see a "planet" where one shouldn't be, I observed the light begin to slowly fade after 4 or 5 seconds, making me wonder if I had happened to observe a nova.

I desperately wanted my friend to get back out there! The light then began to make a slow arc of a few degrees, counter-clockwise, continuing to fade until it stopped moving/faded from view after about 10 seconds. Maybe terrestrial, but sure looked like a high altitude rocket thrust.any reports of U.

Several objects in sky - seemed to be twirling and flashing red - green - blue and white lights and would hover then very quickly move We saw the Peter Jennings special and heard one converation that described something similar to what we witnessed. We saw lights flashing over the city approx 3 miles away from our home - my husband asked me to get the video camera and come out to see this - the objects were hovering at first and were flashing white - red - green - blue lights - one color at a time - and then the objects begain to move around the general area - some would hover then move quickly to another area and then they would hover - when some would move - they would move very quickly. I tried to contact the Calhoun County EMA but got an elderly woman and man and he said that he was not aware of any 'manuver's in the area but that he was only a volunteer.

We live 16 miles from Ft. McClellan Army Base and and also 25 miles from Amminston Army Depot - where a chemical weapons incinerator is located. For the next several weeks - from time to time - we would see these same objects in the sky at night - I videoed the first ones we saw - approx one hour in length.

Also, I am not certain of the date - even the month - I will find the video tape and get the exact date and time and will forward that info on to you. Thank you, ((name deleted)) ((NUFORC Note: Witness indicates that date of sighting is approximate. PD)).

Was at the rail yard, out-skirts of town, at given time, on report. Saw what appeared to be neither "space debris" but a round object that was quite shiny, however, the object did not "disintergrate" nor did it travel in a "straight" line, in my personal observation, it may have possibly attempted an "reverse" orbit i.e.

it may have tried to get back out of the earths' orbit, I know about aviation and space travel, I have studied aviation in the past, in my opinion this was NOT a "SHOOTING STAR" as most would want to be "swayed" into thinking about, but rather would be of an origin from another space-time continueum, cannot exactly prove what this object was but was very impressed with the way it "handled it-self" when it "retrograded" back into the stratospherical altittude, possibly, and dissappeared. Helena, AL

Full Report Text:

Two adults witness boomerang-shaped object during a strange sequence of events My wife and I were headed home after eating dinner at our friends' home. There are two ways to go home, the short way and the long way. The long way is only about three minutes longer, but 99 percent of the time, we take the short way.

My wife was driving and for some reason when we came to the point where we could chose between the short and long way, I told her, "take a left, let's go the back(long) way home." Right before we took that left turn, I noticed a small single-engine plane flying S/SE at around 500 to 700 feet. I could easily see its red and green lights.

Bessemer Municipal Airport is about six miles NW of this location. This airplane looked like it may have departed from Bessemer due to its altitude. We continued to drive the long way home and I thought to myself, "why did I tell her to go this way?" and "I hope she didn't mind me telling her to go this way.

" We turned right at Highway 58, going west in Helena when I clearly noticed this big object in the sky with three white lights, the center light being the brightest of the three. I could see the grayish outline of a boomerang shape, with the bright light in the center and the left and right white lights on the edges of the "wings" of the object. For some reason I nonchalantly pointed to it and said, "see, things like that.

" I don't know why I said that. We had not been talking about seeing strange things. It was like the whole reason why we went the long way home was to see this thing.

When she saw what I was seeing, she stopped the car and asked, "what is that?" and "it's not moving." It wasn't moving. It looked like it was stationary in the sky.

The object was about 35 degrees, NW of our location at a range of about 1 mile and an altitude of anywhere from 1000 to 5000 feet depending on the size of this thing. It was "pointed" in the direction of SE and none of the lights were blinking. The pure-white aspects of the lights on this thing really stand out in my memory of seeing it.

The center light was as bright as Venus is currently in the evening, and I recall seeing this object and Venus at the same time, with Venus to the left and higher up in the sky, maybe five degrees away. At an arm's length, the boomerang-shaped object was about 1-1/2 inches wide and 1/4 inch tall. A car was coming up behind us so we had to start moving down the road.

As we did, I kept my eye fixed on the object. Intermittently, trees would pass and block the view that I had of the object, but it was still there. We came to Highway 17 and instead of turning left to go home, my wife turned right to get a better view of this object.

My view was blocked by a gas station and the bright flourescent lights of the outside of the gas station. When my view was clear again, the object was gone. We continued to drive north on this road.

Oddly enough, there was a vehicle off the road and in the ditch on the side of the road with its headlights on, but we didn't see anyone in it. This distracted us briefly, but it didn't seem to be a serious accident. We continued to drive and we saw what appeared to be the object again, but now it was way to the north, about 5-7 miles away, much higher in the sky and what appeared to be headed to the north.

It was now moving away from us quickly and we soon lost sight of it over the northern horizon(toward Birmingham). We drove through a subdivision on our way back home, driving slowly to see if we could notice the object once more, but we never saw it again. We circled around by the forementioned gas station and saw where a police cruiser was arriving on the scene where the vehicle was in the ditch.

We made it home about 90 seconds later where we discussed what we just saw. These questions remain: What did we see? How did it move so far away, changing directions and altitude so quickly? What made us go home that way? Why did I say what I said when I saw the object? Did the driver of the vehicle in the ditch see this thing, thus distracting the driver to cause the accident? I guess we will never know that. Maybe I am over-thinking this whole thing, but my wife and I know that we saw a large boomerang thing with three lights floating stationary over Helena, AL for at least 10 seconds that night.

Weather at the time: skies were clear, the air temperature was in the 50's(F) and there was a light northerly breeze.

The pinpoint of light that eight minutes ago was many thousands of yards away grew uncomfortably close. Lindsay and I sat on the dock in Riddles Bend over the dark waters of the Coosa River beneath a spray of stars, mystified. I do not remember the moon.

As the lighted craft approached, we wondered to each other why a boat would be cruising down the river at nine at night. Its light was brighter now, concentrated on the opposite shoreline like a spotlight. A police cruiser, perhaps? But it was so huge.

Maybe forty yards long. And there was complete silence. No whirring of a boat motor.

No helicopter blades chopping and stabbing at the air. There was no frothy wake smacking against the dock. This lack of natural physical effects was eerie considering its great size.

((name deleted)) and I were immobile as it moved past us. It seemed to hover above the water as opposed to gliding through it. Three ovular white lights on the bottom barely illuminated the river below.

Frightened yet astounded by the sight, we understood the boundlessness of the galaxy. At that moment we became the hostesses of this planet. We had been visited.

Walking back to my grandmother’s house, I could feel the hair erect itself on my arms, the back of my neck. Shaken and bewildered, we whispered of the possibilities. To think that we remain the sole occupants of the universe is arrogant and absurd.

(I had that experience last spring and I don’t know why I never wrote anything about it.) ((NUFORC Note: Witness indicates that date is approximate. PD)).

Report

Orange Beach, AL

Full Report Text:

Object traveling back-and-fourth for unknown reason and unidentifible possibly because of the distant when the object was sighted. This may be nothing to really report because I have this scrutinizing suspicion of what I saw was just possibly one of those parachute rides being pulled by a boat. On April 16, 2004, I was working outdoors on the new condo construction which is located inside the bay area in Orange Beach, Alabama, and it is nearly in direction in front of the Alabama point bridge which is located near Orange Beach, Alabama.

At 12:00PM, I took a lunch break. While I was taking my lunch break under a shade, I was admiring the beach direction view of this condo location. I was wearing polarizing sunglasses at the time.

I noticed a helicopter flying around in the air. It was a small helicopter like those of a small Huey or traffic watcher type. It kept slowly flying around in the general area inside the bay/gulf channel near the bridge on the fishing side.

It would occasionally descend in each pass where people fished then ascend back to its slow, flight pattern of just wandering around near the bridge area. My first thoughts of this odd flying behavior was a news helicopter trying to make some news because of the recent bonanza of whitings congregating at the fishing site. To the left of the bridge are two condos located on the bay side which I think are still under construction, and the height of those buildings I think is twelve floors.

On the Gulf side of those condos is undeveloped land and the beach. From the bridge to my location, I think the distant is about one mile. From the bridge to the two condos, I think the distant is about one-eight of a mile.

From the condos to my location, I think the distant is about one mile. The sky was partly cloudy, and the temperature was about 80 degree F. While I was watching this helicopter flying around, I noticed what appeared at first to be a large balloon drifting in the wind.

The size of the balloon object is about the same size of the condo's window from my viewing location. Its path when first seen originated by the bridge and possibly out in the Gulf near the beach. The balloon object altitude was above the two condos, and the balloon object altitude was at least 1 and a half condo high from my perceptiveness.

The balloon object had no colors except for a minute grayish color that reflected no sunlight similar to the color of a water droplet. The balloon object was perfectly round. As this balloon object moving from west to east drifted pass the two condos starting from the bridge in an estimated time of about 30 seconds to a minute; the balloon object completely stopped drifting and almost seem to hover in the same position for about 15 seconds.

Then the shape of the balloon object changed to something not roundish. Its color also changed to something like a black dot but still not roundish in shape. Then this object travel back towards the bridge location at same speed of 30 seconds to a minute.

Then it stopped and reverse coarse towards the two condos. It appeared to get slightly smaller. Then about half way towards the condo, I saw for a brief moment a color of paper white appear for about 3 seconds, and it was definitely not a sunlight reflection.

I realized that this was no balloon, so I was trying to figure out what it could be. After the fourth back-and-fourth trip of this object, an advertising plane appeared trailing its advertisement. The object on its way back towards the two condos seem to disappear from view behind the two condos.

I was waiting for it to reappear on the left side of the two condos which it did not reappear. On the right side of the bridge are some condos. I notice a bright red/orange parachute probably being pulled by a boat.

The distant to those condos is about a mile. The size of that parachute ! from my location was about the size of a quarter if I was to held it up in front of me. When comparing the size of the object to the parachute, the object was like a pea to the parachute.

Then the object that disappeared behind the two condo reappeared from the right side of the two condos. I thought to myself, "I wonder if the helicopter pilot is seeing what I am seeing? Surely if there was something out of ordinary, he would investigate it." I was thinking, "Gee! If only I could talk to the helicopter pilot and ask him to investigate what I was seeing, then he can tell me what he saw.

" I took off my sunglass to see if I could still see the object without the aid of the sunglass, and I was still able to see the object, but not as good, so I put the sunglass back on me. I kept watching this object going back-and-fourth between the bridge and the two condos when I noticed a white dot way out near the horizon in the Gulf. It was probably about 5 to 10 degrees above the horizon, and intermittently it was hidden by the clouds.

It didn't look like it was shining a light, but it did appeared to be just a paper white dot. It is possible that it could be a jet coming towards my direction, but that object defiantly did not pass over my location to get to the spotted location unless it was flying way up high if it did pass location. All of this viewing took place during my 30 minutes lunch break.

When I went back to work, I was still able to see the object, and I explain to one of my co-workers what I saw during my lunch break. I pointed in the direction of the object and my co-worker was able to see it too. He seem like it was nothing since he just glanced at for a few seconds, but I find it strange that all this object did was go back-and-fourth during my lunch break.

If it was one of those parachute rides pulled by a boat, it would had to been at least 2- 4 miles out in the Gulf. Another possibility of what the object may had been was another helicopter, but when I first saw this object, it was perfectl! y round and drifting almost like a balloon. When I first seen the object, it may had been up closer, but possibly it may had zig-zag a coarse out into the Gulf becoming smaller as it went which may explain how the two condos were able to make it disappear for a brief moment.

It may be nothing, but I saw it, and I can't explain it, so I'm reporting it.
