South Dakota UFO Sightings in 2004

Light explodes in sky above Canistota, SD. I am not sure of the exact time, however I do for sure know that It was on the night of 11/19/04. It must have been around the time of 22:30 to 23:30 I am guessing.

I was driving on a gravel road heading south. I was just a couple miles north of highway 38, in between Salem and Montrose, SD. Anyway, I as I was driving I noticed a bright, white light, a little bigger than a star falling up in the southeastern part of the sky.

It appeared to be above Canistota. I saw it falling for about 2 seconds when it exploded! When it exploded, there may have been about 3 or 4 pieces of the object that broke apart and flew in opposite directions, and there was a small flash of light around it. The flash of light appeared about the size of nickel at arms length.

I dont know if this was just a mere star exploding, or, if it was something else. Saw tri-angle lights under dark body while driving west on I-90 Driving West on I- 90 a friend of mine an I saw what appeared to be a very bright star decending tward the ground from about 10 or 15,000 feet to about 1500 feet above ground level as we drove tward it at about 90 MPH. By the time we were about a mile from the object we assumed it to be some sort of aircraft from Ellsworth AFB. We quickly changed our minds when the odject appeard to be Three lights aranged in a tri-angle, The lights looked like a very large street light except that there was a dark body behind the lights and it appeared to be hovering at about 1500 to 2000 feet, which Helocopter pilots dont like to do becouse they loose ground effect.

So we drive untill we are undernieth the object at which point were really freaked out we roll the windows down to confirm that its not a helo/ Harrier/ JSF X-plane Ect. and no sound was heard besides road noise, my friend sits on the door and looks over the top of the truck at the object and i Look out my open window to confirm that its not a reflection or any thing else. At this point we are driving about 60 mph next to a commercial truck whose driver looks at me with this wild expression as we both look back at the object it moves slowly tward the north and then just kind of winks out of view.

To this day it is the only thing like it that i have ever seen, wether it was something from Ellsworth or not I dont know, I just thought that I should let somebody know. ((NUFORC Note: Witness indicates that the date of the event is approximate. PD)).

White pulsing light Captain for a major airlines, flying west over South Dakota, southeast of Dupree (DPR VOR) Northeast of Rapid City (RAP VOR), Cruising altitude of 35,000 feet. Time 01:14Z. Speed .

79 mach.(460 knot ground speed) Very clear night. Noticed a pulsing white light, which got my attention looking out the forward window.

White light pulsing 1.5 seconds "on" then 4 to 5 seconds "off". Moving with us (above) west bound at an altitude that appeared to be much higher.

Estimated 60,000 feet or higher. Pulsing again 5 degrees to the right (north). Alerted my first officer for his observation and opinion, (to what he thought it was) He also agreed it was an unusual pulsating white light, not an aircraft beacon or strobe light.

This light was not normal with any aircraft that we have ever seen. Light was not seen again until approx. 30 seconds later and appeared forward many miles ahead of us and 10 degrees to the left.

Observed another few secounds then notified air traffic control. Air traffic controls reply "no aircrafts forward or above our area over the next 125 miles". Other air carriers were asked by air traffic control for any unsusual white lights.

2 others reported seeing the white light which was now south west of us over 90 degrees in less then 30 seconds. (This type of movement was extremely fast). I know of no aircraft able to move in this manner or switch directions so quickly.

Light was again gone after an estimated 4 pulses. Appeared again south of us, northwest of RAP vor at 01:28z. Pulsed three times , never saw it again.

Air traffic control gave us 2 phone numbers for the UFO hotline. ((NUFORC Note: We spoke with this witness on several occasions, and we find him to be exceptionally credible. He is attempting to have the 1st Officer on the flight submit a report, as well.

My husband and I were driving south on Interstate 29 going to Sioux Falls. When we were about 6-7 miles north, of the city, I was looking up in the sky watching for the usual airline traffic from the airport. I used to live in Sioux Falls not too far from the airport and loved watching the planes and am well aware of all types of conventional air craft.

The day was clear and sunny with just a few lines of whispy clouds. I was watching one jet fly over, east to west and then another came along also, east to west. A little higher in the sky, I noticed a bright round, white,light like a nickle at arms length and, I am estimating about 60 degrees off the horizon to the south and a little west of the city.

It was very bright and appeared to be flashing though, it could have just been the reflection of the sun. At first I thought it was another plane but it didn't appear to be moving and didn't have a contrail as the other planes did. I asked my husband if he saw it and he said he did.

It appeared to be moving in and out and above and below the clouds and would fade out from time to time. When the second plane came over, I noticed another light of the same type lower than the second plane and on the same course. It disappeared after about 5-10 seconds, the other one was still visible.

I pulled to the side of the road to get a better look and try to get some pictures. It disappeared as we drove on, then, it reappeared and I pulled off onto the off ramp and drove down another highway looking for a gravel road so I could park and watch it. It was still in the same place in the sky and still doing the same things.

By the time I had found a gravel road, it appeared to be higher up but still in the same place and barely visible, then it was just gone. I did notice another plane come from the airport, circle around at a lower altitude in the direction of the light but, don't think this pertained to it.

light in the sky flashed once approx. every 2 minutes but never moved. Stayed in one location and flashed once every 2 minutes! My family and I were at Iron Creek Lake (located in the Black Hills of South Dakota) camping over the weekend.

It was around:00 am Sunday morning (9-12-04 - just after midnight) and I was sitting outside all by myself gazing at the stars. It was then that I noticed a light flash in the sky. It wasn't a big bright light or anything beyond the imagination, but it flashed once and that was it.

at least that's what I thought. I thought for a second that maybe I was just seeing things. But about 2 minutes later, it flashed again.

So I started counting. I was counting a little slow, but when I hit 1:45 (one minute 45 seconds) it flashed again. The weird thing was the fact that it wasn't moving.

It stayed in the same spot and flashed every 2 minutes concistently for the 30 minutes that I watched, and it never changed locations. I know it wasn't a satellite because I've seen satellites and it was bigger than that, and it didn't move. It wasn't a star, it wasn't a plane, and it wasn't a helicopter.

I have no idea what it was, nor will I try to come up with ideas, but I would definately like to know what it was if anyone knows anything else about it. If it would have been a constant light, it would have looked just like a star.I know that much.

"Armageddon" or "Deep Impact" type fireball cruises over South Dakota On 9-2-04 at about 22:43 my wife and I were watching tv inside our house when my wife said "hey, hey, hey, look!" and was pointing out our living room window which faces due North. I jumped up and looked outside and witnessed a huge fireball traveling low on the horizon in a straight line from West to East, it then curved downward and disappeared. It was bright and from our house it appeared the size of a basketball, white in color and traveling slow.

It also didn't leave a streak or a trail and when it disappeared it didn't appear to break up or anything it just faded out. I am a Security professional with 12 years experience observing and reporting at my job. My wife works in education.

A bright light similar to a very bright star, flew across the sky from the northwest to the southeast at a constant speed. Took about 3 minutes to go from horizon to horizon. There were no flashing or green & red lights like an airplane would have.

A ufo consisting of 2 white lights moving north easterly over I-90 near Piedmont, SD. Sighted on June 10, 2004 While driving to work at 11:28 at night, I was near mile marker 38 heading east on Interstate 90 when I noticed two white lights about 15' apart flying northeasterly and to the north east of the interstate. this put them roughly over the hills that run in the area (about 100' above the hill), there were no discernable running lights or anything to indicate it was an airplane.

the object was watched until it disapeared over the hill and no longer in view. One other thing I noticed also was the radio fading in and out while the object was in view.

It hovered until we stopped like it was waiting for someone to see it. We were headed east out of rapid city at exit 59 onto I90. I was driving and noticed a set of landing lights pointed west like they were landing at Ellworth airforce base.

After a mile or two I realised they were'nt moving and said so to my companions. We continued east all the while watching the lights. When we got to the last airbase exit I stopped the car at the side of the off ramp.

We all three got out and looked up directly above us at this large black triangle. It was just hovering above us at about 200 feet. My guess was about 60 feet from corner to corner.

It continued hovering there for about 20 sec. and then 1 corner went down, another went up, and it turned and floated south towards Rapid City Regional Airport where it disappeared. The weird things: It was right along side the flight path of military planes landing which is s.

e. to n.w.

It was just after sunset the sky was somewhat dark but it was still plainly visible against the light sky. We were the only people who stopped and I got the feeling they were waiting to see if anyone would stop and look. When it turned we were directly below and I heard barely audible very muffled jet engines.

When it flew towards the civilian airport it disapppeared. At first we thought it had to have flown over the airport but after thinking about it we knew that wasn't likely as there was a plane landing at that time. The civilian airport is up on a hill which gave me reference height and we believe it flew over towards there and disappeared in front of the hill.

How we don't know. It had landing lights on it just like the military and civilian planes all do. No other lights were displayed.

Distance from exit 59 to the last exit is approximately 7 miles. It was facing straight west while the landing path is to the n.w.

I think it was a military plane as the airforce base radar surely would pick it up. ((NUFORC Note: Witness indicates that the date of the incident is approximate. PD)).

At aproximatly 18:20 Hrs. I was working outside in our parking lot and happened to look up at the moon and the bright planet to its lower right, when I notiecd a brighter ( what I thought to be a planet to the East of the moon), however it was at least three times as large as the other planet, and twice as bright. As I viewed this light it pulsated, and vanashed into a dot of light and dissapered.

Since there was a thin overcast the "light" and the moon had a slight halo around them.

On Valentines night we were on the interstate going home after eating out in Fargo ND when suddenly we witnessed an explosion in the sky at a very high altitude. It caused a bright green flash that lit up a small section of the night sky and quickly subsided. My wife had said did you see that, I replied yes, and to keep track of the time so we can check Heavans Above.

com to see if that was an Iridium Flare or some other type of celestial event. I checked and could not find anything that occured at precisely 20:17. The night was very dark with a lot of stars visible.

No moon present, brightest object in the sky was Venus which was to the West. The explosion looked like a glowing donut for a second then shrank really fast into nothing. There was no streak of light no meteor tail or anything just an explosion/ flash of light then nothing.

There were other car cars on the interstate at that time so this may not be the only report.

Meteorite-like object tracking across the entire sky from east to west moving at a tremendous speed. While out walking prior to daybreak, I saw this bright light in the eastern sky. It had the appearance of a meteorite with a contrail behind it that glowed.

It was traveling from east to west and was continuously visible as it traveled completely across the sky. It was moving at a tremendous speed and there was no sound. I could see the blinking lights of a large aircraft in the northern sky at the same time and this object was moving so fast it made the aircraft appear to almost be standing still.

The aircraft appeared to be flying above 30,000 feet and was so far off in the distance that I could not hear the sound of its' engines. This object appeared to be at a lower altitude.

orange lights in a L shape on 01-13-04 i went outside and saw a L shape row of orange lights come on in order.as soon as all the lights were on they went out in the order as they appeared.
