Orange balls shooting into the air and forming a check mark formation. I was arriving home from work. I stepped out of my car and saw several orange balls shoot into the air.

I thought at first it was fireworks since it was New Year’s Eve. I walked to the end of the driveway, maybe 5 feet to get a better look without tree limbs in my way. The balls made a formation that looked to me like a check mark.

They hung in the air for a minute or two. I started to walk into the house, all the time looking at the orange balls. In the time it took to open the front door and tell a relative about what I saw and tell them to come outside and see it too, the balls were gone.

We went around to the back of the house, thinking that we may be able to see it back there. Nothing. All of this happened on the south side of town.

There was 5 of us outside. I looked to the east and seen a bright white light. I thought it was a helicopter but heard nothing.

I let my friends know so they can look also. as we looked the light grew larger then made a sharp turn to the north. the light then began to fade out then disapeared all together.

One, spherical light orb that is slow moving then rapidly accelerating up into clouds. The craft I saw was round sphere shaped object that had a orange-yellow light to it. It was a cloudy day and the craft was moving fairly slowly in my direction.

Then it stopped probably about about a mile away from and proabably two thousand feet off the ground. The object was probably about the size of a house. After it was stationary for about 35 seconds, it flew straight up into the clouds.

I could see it disappearing through the clouds with the affect of a flashlight shining in smoke. I found it very werid because airplanes always fly from east to west over my house and this was coming from the south going north. And I don't think there is an aircraft known to have a flight pattern like I saw that evening.

Strange Orb light in the sky My family and I took a short vacation from Oklahoma to Keystone, South Dakota to see Mount Rushmore. While we were there on July 22, 2009, my wife and I seen an object moving from North to South quite a ways in the sky probably right above airplane distance. At first we just figured it was an airplane and we watched this bright white orb light moving slowly across the sky then it disappeared??? We both looked at each other and was in a puzzled look.

It wasn't like it shot away or anything it just disappeared. We started talking about it the next night around a campfire with our relatives and they were like yeah yeah. After about ten minutes of talking about this my wifes uncle in law spotted another light EXACTLY the same except this time it was moving from West to East same speed shape (a little larger do to it being closer than the last) and everything.

So we all watched it and it just kept moving finally everyone stopped watching it as it was passing over our heads except of course my wife, her uncle in law, and myself. We all said hey it disappeared about the same time and everyone looked up and were all in shock at the disappearance of this light. We started watching all the airplanes that were flying off in the distance and they all had a red and green light mounted on them and going about in the same pattern traveling from North to South and South to North and I do not at all think this was a private or commercial plane.

Now, we are all skeptical about UFO's and aliens and what not, but there was no denying that something was deffinately in the sky that night that "WE" could not explain. I found this site because I was looking up explanations of what we might have seen those 2 nights. After visiting a few sites I finally found this one talking about the black hills sitings so I thought I would share my experience.

7 Flaming flying object's the night before an important Native ceremony. My family and I were staying in a small Motel within the town of Eagle Butte the night of July 5th. My husband and I went outside in the parking lot to smoke.

An acquaintance was outside as well and alerted us to a flaming red/orange light in the shape of a long, narrow, lateral rectangle in the southern sky, moving slowly and horizontally on a very determined smooth course, being the size of a nickel at arms length, and at an estimated altitude of 2,000 feet. The object as it headed due north reaching closer to the horizon made a steady incline, yet it did not become smaller as most aircrafts would at an incline-it just disappeared. It was proceeded by three more on the exact same coarse as the first from south to north.

During the time of these sightings, several other people came out to witness. There were a total of nine witnesses including a confused government contractor working for the Department of Homeland Security's Transportation Safety Administration. The next round of objects (three total) originated from the west to east (toward us) then veering off to the north.

Heading in the same northern direction as the other four. Directionally as they headed toward us they appeared as round flaming red/orange balls, but as they veered their coarse to the north we could then see the rectangular shape. The night sky was very clear and there were no trails from these objects.

It was obvious They had a definite, intelligent flight plan. The next day the phone system of the entire Motel was out of order.

2 to 3 minute sighting of bright oval shaped object.moving south. I was in my backyard talking to my sister, when she told my to look up.

It took me about a minute before I saw it. it looked to be at roughly 7000 feet. It looked to be a flattened oval about 3/4 of an inch long.

It was moving south at a constant speed. It was a bright white color and appeared to have a highly reflective surface. There was no indication of wings, contrails, engine sounds or strobe lights visible on it.

it went into a cloud bank and was still visible for a few seconds before it was gone from sight. i have had weather spotter training and a fair knowledge of aircraft.

White cigar shaped object in sight for 2 to 3 minutes sighting duration. No noise, contralis, etc. The time was approximately, 9:15 pm on July 22 of 2009.

I was in the back yard of my brother's property next door, facing south, talking to my brother who was to the east side of the property. I turned to talk to him and when I did, looked up at the trees that separate the property. I noticed an object that I would describe as looking like a pill type capsule or cigar shape.

This object was bright white and obviously reflecting the setting sun. it had no noise nor did it have a contrail like conventional aircraft. It moved at a steady pace in a north south direction.

There were a few clouds but, they were to the south and as the object moved off, you could still see it reflecting the light while in the clouds. I would estimate it roughly at around 7,000 ft. altitude.

When I first saw it, it looked to be about 3 inches long from my vantage point on the ground. As I said, it appeared first as a cigar shape but, as it went away, it appeared as a round shape as would be expected by something of that shape moving away from you. I am a former volunteer fire fighter and a trained weather spotter so, I am familiar with the skies.

I grew up near an airport and had a father who was crazy about airplanes so, I am familiar with all types of conventional aircraft. My brother did not see it at first when I pointed it out to him due to the trees but, did see it long enough to file a report also. ((NUFORC Note: Date corrected by source of report.

Witnessed an 8" x 2ft. black rectangle with blurred hind portion appearing out of the fog about 15ft. in the air.

Rapid City, S.D. USA -- (I checked the moon phase around this date to see when it would be bright enough for us to see the black rectangle.

Moon was directly in the west. Date is within the timeframe of a bright moon. Approx.

time - 10 p.m.).

My nearly 6-month-old chihuahua and I were out in the yard facing west and facing an empty one-acre lot, along Rapid Creek. There was low moderate fog, and the moon facing us was bright enough for us to see as there is/was no street light on our corner. We were approx.

20 ft. from the rectangle as it was coming in. Out of the fog and coming from the north heading south, this black rectangle (with a back portion that was trailing a bit and blurred like when something is traveling very fast and blurs in photos) emerged.

It gradually, while still moving fast, descended to the ground about 50 ft. to the south, skidded once, bounced about 3 ft. high about 7 feet further, and plopped to rest under a young ash tree.

Next, I was still shocked by what I saw and my dog and I just stared at the spot where it landed for about a minute. We were unafraid for some reason. We then slowly made our way to about 20 ft.

from the tree. I think it was still flat as we approached but then spread out into a flat circle. For sure it quickly formed into a black ball about baseball size, and without recoil just lifted into the air quickly at about a 30-degree angle to the west.

We saw it until it was about 20 ft. in the air and then I could not see it anymore. It may have gotten lost from my vision in the darkness of the nearby cottonwood trees to the west as it moved upward.

Notes: I am not educated in higher math, but it appears to me that following that trajectory back to the north would not be possible unless it found a sweet spot as there are homes in the way about 1/2 block to the north. I can picture what is to the north and there may have been enough room further to the north 2-3 miles I guess for it to miss the obstacles such as trees, homes, hills, etc. Our chihuahua did not bark.

If one knows chihuahuas, they know that they bark at everything. They also think they are German Shepherds. LOL.

Loud humming triangular craft observed over Western South Dakota moving at high speed On 25 May 2009 at approximately 2200 hours, a triangular shaped craft was detected moving West to East over various locations in western South Dakota between Highway 44 and Rapid City Regional Airport. One letter written in to the Rapid City Journal described the object as 'making a loud humming noise before accelerating at an immense speed and disappearing out of sight.' Despite an Air Show at Ellsworth AFB during the following weekend, only home-station aircraft, the B-1 Bomber were at the base and none were in flight during this time.

The craft was spotted by several eye-witnesses, some of whom detected the same craft at approximately 0430 on Tuesday the 26th of May, 2009.

Triangular object over Rapid City around 22:00 I heard a humming sound outside. I am a private duty nurse in Rapid City and sat near the open kitchen door. When I looked up I saw a triangular object slowly moving above the houses.

I saw it again around 04:00 too.

Single, bright white light over Rapid City, SD. I live about 10 miles from an Air Force Base that has B-1B bombers. These planes are very loud and unmistakable.

I also live about 5 miles from a regional airport. I have prior military experience with aircraft so I have more than general knowledge regarding general aviation. On the night of May 17, 2009 around 11:30 pm I stepped outside to smoke.

It was a clear night and the stars were visible. I noticed a single bright, round, white light at about 35,000 feet (or more) in the sky to the north and thought it was a plan. I looked up and it just continued to get brighter and quickly disappeared.

There was no noise and the color and shape stayed the same. It almost seemed like the light was coming closer and just turned around and went up and was gone. It took about 4-5 seconds.

I have never seen anything like this in my life. It wasn’t a plane, satellite, or shooting star. I wonder if it was a dying star or even a UFO.

Red flashing lights that apeared randomly across the sky. I saw with my mom and her boyfriend, a series of flashing red lights popping up in the night sky in random places. It could not have been a plane or a light tower used for planes because it would flash in one part of the sky, then it would flash in a completely different spot.

It never flashed in the same spot more than once.

Strange fast moving silent orbs seen over South Dakota skies. Last night I went outside a little after midnight to let my dogs outside and water my strawberry plants. When I was done watering my plants I leaned back on the trunk of my car to light a cigarette facing north, when I thought I saw a shooting star in the sky and did a double take.

This was unlike anything I have ever seen and was not any civilian or military plane at least not any that is publicly known. It appeared to be one craft however I could not make out an outline of the object. One very dim orb was leading the other dim orb except what made this so strange to me was that the orb in the rear was visibly offset from the other, meaning it was not directly behind the first, almost diagonally behind and to the side of the first dim light.

It moved from east to west, then almost lost sight of it behind a big tree, but I ran excitedly to the other side and caught a clear view as it proceeded west until it faded off on the horizon line. This object was extremely fast and did not make a sound. I ran inside after I lost sight of it, and grabbed my camera and walked westward for half an hour but was unable to see anything else.

It was very exciting, I am still very excited, I live by a small airport and often film the airplanes, and growing up I lived by Forbes Field Air National Guard Base, one of the largest airstrips in the United States, and I would often see F-117's and B-2 Stealth fighters and bombers, even flying low and in formation in the day and at night, and though stealth's look very creepy at night and fly in triangular formations, I can identify them for what they are, and this was no military plane that I have ever seen. Seemingly shooting star spilt into 4 objects, then joins back up into one object in the Black Hills. I was parked in my driveway getting out of the car when I thought I saw a shooting star in the Western part of the sky, over the Black Hills, moving North East. I exclaimed to my husband - "look! A shooting star! Make a wish!" But what I thought was a star wasn't.

It didn't fade out, it seemed very close to Earth too close to be anything but an airplane), it made no noise at all, and the shooting star-like thing split, uniformly, into 4 parts. The 4 parts looked like shooting stars, same size as the original and they moved slightly away from each other. After moving away from each other for 5 seconds, still going North East very quickly, they joined back up in a uniform fashion.

They didn't lose or gain speed, they just moved very fast at a steady pace. By this time, I was squealing at my husband to get out of the car to see this, but the "shooting star" moved to a spot in the sky behind some trees in the yard, and I did not see it again. I looked all around for anything that might have reflected light, like tree branches or power lines, but I found none.

This occurred in the middle of the night on a very quiet residential street, and no one else was around. There were no trains, cars, airplanes or clouds around at all. I hope I gave you enough info! This was a very exciting experience!.
