Maine UFO Sightings in 2001

Three oval craft seen in mid-Maine emiting pulsing white light. Saw three bright flashing white lights clustered together in the distance over wooded area. Assumed at first to be aircraft.

Were temporarily blocked by view by trees. (We were driving on the interstate.) After a bit, two came into view on the horizon.

They looked to be the approximate height of one of those poles that have red warning lights for planes. The light was a blinding white and was pulsating. We began to wonder if it was some unusual type of aircraft.

We saw them to our right as we were heading South, but they then became blocked by view when a hill on our right came between us and the two lights. I was driving and my good friend was the passenger in the car. She then fell asleep and i continued to watch the sky for any more signs of the light.

I could begin to see the pulsing glow from at least one of them from behind the hill we were driving along. I started to get the feeling that it was going to reach the top of the hill and become visible. No sooner had I thought that than one of the pulsing white lights was right beside our car on the right.

It seemed to not have traveled the distance over the hill to get to beside our car. It seemed to have just been in one moment still behind the hill and in the next instantaneously beside our car. I woke my friend up who was on that side of the car.

She immediately saw it as it was essentially right over her window. She was able to look up at the underside of it. I was able to lean over and see it through her window.

It was a blinding white light that was incredibly powerful. It was pulsating regularly. My friend describes it as an oval shaped object with a flat bottom and curved sides.

Neither of us could see the top. I could not see any material in the middle of the oval, the matter it was composed of seemed to form an oval shape with the center cut out, similar to a donut. Both of us sensed, however, that a middle to this craft may have existed, but was not visible to us.

The pulsing light was definitely coming from the ! perimete r of the craft. When it would flash, the whole craft lit up with a glow while it sent out a pulsing flash that could be seen from a great distance. This particular craft beside our car then was behind us as we traveled down the interstate.

For the next hour or so we could still see at least two of the lighted objects in the distance if we looked back or looked to our right, depending on which direction we were heading. The closest way my friend and I can describe the light the craft emitted is to state that it each time it flashed it looked very similar to the photos seen on the news of air bombing.

I am an overnight DJ at WKIT in Bangor, a little before 1 PM, I received a call from a listener asking me if I knew about the odd light in the northwest sky, just below Orion.the listener said something about it kinda looking like a star at first glance but if you look at it longer there is a red light rotating around the "star." After getting off the phone, I went outside to look for it.

I found it, and after squinting it almost looked like some sort of electronic signals almost in the shape of an airplane with lights that are red, blue and green with one central light. It is the strangest thing I have ever seen. It is stationary and is not moving through the sky, so far it has been in the sky for 45 minutes ((NUFORC Note: Reports seems to us to be not inconsistent with a "twinkling" star.

We will invite the witness to confirm the sighting against a star chart. PD)).

Incandescent light-greenish Orb with Red Halo spotted in sky over Northern woods. It appeared to have come out from the direction of the full moon, which was to my left. The oval shape was speeding somewhat rapidly down at first, and I thought initially that it was a comet, as it appeared to have a tail and it was shooting a bit down-ward, but then it went off in a very rapid parallel direction, and the comet-like trail or vapors which followed it were no more.

It hovered minus the trail(s) and then appeared more roundish.the orb was incandescent green with a vibrantly bright red halo surrounding it. I know that it couldn't have been "marsh gas" or a flying air-craft.

at least not of any military or common sort. It absolutely was not of this planet, to my thinking.as it immediately disappeared.

My eyes remained transfixed on the spot in the wooded area behind my house, but it was gone.very,very suddenly.

I saw an object, i had just left my house and was walking down the road with my dog cocoa. after about 3 minutes i noticed i didn't hearany of the usual noises, i.e.

crickets and frogs and the such. my dog perked it's ears and looked to my left at the sky. when i couldn't amke him move i looked where he was.

the craft was grayish and shaped like an oval. i could see lights the lights blinked in a sideways zigzag pattern. The next thing i know it is gone.

and it is a lot darker than it was. when i walked back to my house i noticed that i had been gone for an hour when it seemed like only three minutes. ((NUFORC Note: Date is approximate.

Satellites in the sky moving at right angles without slowing down - and stopping as still as a star My wife and I had our plans to go to Acadia NP interupted by 9/11 and we watched transfixed to the TV like everyone else for 3 days. We finally decided to pack up and leave and see if we could get some sanity back into our lives by going to Acadia anyhow. We arrived late in the day a couple of days later (I don't remember the exact day).

After setting up camp, we drove to the Ocean Drive near Sand Beach and walked the walkway in the dark. After walking awhile we went out on the shoreline rocks to just watch the surf and stars and listen to the ocean. It was a nice clear night without any moon at that time.

The planes had been flying for a couple of days again, and there is a path they tend to use over the Bar Harbor area that is directly overhead and runs in a SW to NE direction. As I was watching the planes, and looking over the stars, I noticed a satellite moving across the sky from W to E in a line that was slightly off perpendicular to the route of the planes - still some distance from the exact route the planes were taking. Looking further west I saw another satellite.

I pointed them out to my wife. They were average star brightness and appeared just as I've seen many satellites moving across the sky. I continued watching as the 'satellite' moved closer to the path of the planes (no planes nearby at the moment).

As some more planes flew overhead (they sometimes flew 3 or 4 at once) from the south and came near to the path of the 'satellite', the first 'satellite' stopped dead still in the sky - as still as a star. Once the planes went by, the 'satellite' started moving again - at the same speed it had been - without any apparent acceleration time - and then suddenly made a right angle turn moving ahead in the new direction at the same speed it had been using before. There was no apparent loss of speed as it made the right angle turn.

It did this several more times - in different directions. Each turn appeared as an exact 90 degree turn - and then it moved in that direction for a few seconds before making another right angle turn again. Anytime a plane came near to the location of the 'satellite', the 'satellite' stopped dead still in the sky.

The other 'satellite' as it came closer did exactly the same thing in relation to the planes!! We were just blown away and I couldn't imagine any spacecraft or plane that I know of that could manuever and hover so abruptly. Once past the lane the planes used, they continued on until they grew fainter in the sky. Both my wife and I are 50 years old (47 at the time of the 'incident'), with college education.

I've had an interest in astronomy and love of nature for years, and am a business owner - full time nature photographer. ((NUFORC Note: Witness indicates that date of sighting is approximate. PD)).

UFO sightings in Southern Maine This is the third occassion that this has happened. Tonight I did not see any craft, but Sunday night three crafts were sighted going over the neighborhood. They were like the ones that went over Phoenix, AZ.

Just a triangle arrangement of lights, moving very slowly. If you were outside you couldn't hear them, but inside the house the walls were vibrating. Tonight all I heard was the hum of them going over and it only lasted about 30 seconds or so.

I didn't get out of bed fast enough to see them. But the sound is so unmistakable I knew what it was.

streaking fireball over central maine Watching television 9 p.m.ish -- streak of golden light high in sky heading in northerly direction (presumably from easterly direction).

Very brief, very high, very noticeable. Nothing further to report, except that we have witnessed unusual phenomena at this location before (see report from March 00.).

A stationary object stood for hours the night sky. It had three flashing lights, yellow, green and red. This one object was far away in the sky.

30 degrees east, northeast. I looked through the binoculars at it. What struck me about it being unusual was that it remained stationary in the same position, not moving.

It had three colors, red, yellow and green. I thought it may be a helicopter at first, but when it was still in the same position after 15 minutes to a half hour, I thought it odd. The lights flashed.

It was not a star, it was not a plane and it was not a helicopter. What it possibly could have been was a satelite, if they have flashing tri-colored lights. It appeared the next night in the same position.

When I checked it a few hours later, it was father to the south, as our earth moved in its rotation.

Trio of 'craft' in formation, dots of lights. While at the Astronomical Society of Northern New England's opening of their Starfield observatory in Kennebunk, Maine, we were observing an Iridium Flare. At 21:29.

One of our members observed a trio of 'satellites' moving in formation from East to Wesst at 80 degrees alt. ENE, in the constellation Lyra. We put several bino's and one scope on the trio (we could only get one craft at a time) and they were only dots of lights with no characteristics of commercial aircraft.

There were no noises as the craft were extremely high if not in orbit. The trio of craft continued in perfect formation westward until out of sight over the horizon. ((NUFORC Note: Very few satellites fly to the west.

UFO flies over Lewiston, Maine 08/22/01 At 10:00 p.m. while at my computer, I began to hear the sound of what I thought to be a in the distance, a low flying jet plane.

The closer it got, the louder it became. I felt a sense of fear as it seemed to pass over the top of our home. I felt that it might crash as it was so close.

I immediately got off my computer and turned off the loghts, to see if I could see anything out the window. It was a very skies and stars were very bright, buti could only hear and not see any plane. I saw a huge bright light cross from one side of the lake to another, and then the noise completely ceased for a few brief moments, only to return again, coming closer back over our home once again.

I knew that this could NOT be a jet, as it would not have had enough time to turn around so soon, and this is something that jets do not do as a rule anyway. The noise continued to get louder and closer,and disappeared again just as it had done the first time it passed. This time it did not return again and no more bright lights were tobe seen.

My husband at the time was on the phone downstairs, but said he had heard the loud and low flying object, he too thinking it was an extremely low flying jet. The very next day in the Lewiston Sun Journal, was a write up of the hundreds of people who had called the Lewiston police, to report the same exact thing as we had heard. Lewiston police called the FAA, and they said there had been NO jets on radar in our area at this time.

BTW.all the people who called in to the police reported that it was 10:00 p.m.

This phenomoner was also a big story on all the local television news reports Thur.8/23/01. No one seems to be able to tell what it was, but it was darn sure scary.

Almost the same thing happened just over one year ago. It was around July 22, I believe. This time it was in daylight, and in late morning.

The skies were very overcast, and I was sitting on my back porch, when I heard a plane approaching over my home. ((NUFORC Note: We understand that many reports of this incident were submitted to the news media in Maine. PD)).

I was in the house when I heard a thunder like noise coming from outside. At first I thought it soundered like thunder but it lasted longer than a thunder burst. The rumbling lasted a good minute or more.

I went outside and there were no clouds in the sky and the stars were out. At this time I seen a flash of light coming from a South West direction. Many reports came in to the Lewiston Police department from surrounding towns claiming that their houses shook and they also saw lights and balls of fire.

Area bases claim that no aircrafts were in the area. Up to this date there has been no explanation of this much witnessed Freakish Phenomenon. ((NUFORC Note: We presume the witness means a date of 22AU01.

Corroboration of the 8/22/01 reports in Lewiston I wanted just to write in to corroborate the sightings posted by other writers for this same date. Better late than never. I remember this incident well because it was the evening of our 21st wedding anniversary.

My wife and I arrived home after dinner and we were walking around inside our house checking on our two children when we heard a rumbling noise in the sky near our house. We live in one of the highest locations in the city and the evening was quiet. The rumbling - similar to a jet engine - would last for about 10 seconds or so and then abruptly stop.

The noise got progressively louder so that it got my attention, and I walked outside but could see nothing. The area around the house is wooded and our view of the sky to the north and east is obscured. By the time I walked outside, the noise was continuing at regular intervals but was fading into the distance.

The "jet" noise sounded similar to the blast of the propane engines that are used to heat hot air balloons. The city does have a hot air balloon festival that takes place in late August. However, no balloonist in his right mind would fly at night, and there were many sightings of something strange, to go along with the many people who, like us, heard but did not see anything.

There was a story in the local newspaper the next day but we've heard or seen nothing unusual since that night. But I'm keeping my eyes open!!.

Silver metallic flashing bell shaped craft. Driving NNE and observed silver metallic bell shaped object. Object appeared to be rotating clockwise and was flashing.

A 600 ft. high mountain was off to the left, Atlantic ocean to the right. The object was easily observed against the dark rain clouds that were behind (north) of it.

The sky was clear and sunny behind me. No visaircraft strobe lights were visible. Object moved slowly to the NNW then appeared to stop.

In relation to Mountain was probably 2000 to 2500 feet in the air and a distance of 2-4 miles from me. Object then started moving slowly NE and then shot straight up and disappeared.

2 lights, with the brightest of the 2 changing shapes My girl friend and I saw 2 ufo's. I observed them from the other side of the lake I was staying at. They looked about 3-4 miles away.

I stayed at Salmon lake in a cabin for a week with my family, so that is why I do not have all the location information. I had never seen anything like them before, looking at them made me afraid, for whatever reasons I am still trying to understand. The lights were near the horizon and very bright.

The light they emitted was a white light. The first light I saw was the brightest. It cast a reflection on the lake.

It had 3 different shapes that it kept alternating into every few minutes. The first shape looked like two balls that were stuck together, then it appeared to move closer to me and would turn into a five point star, then it appeared to be moving farther away from me and change into a fine point of light. The light did have an aura around, but you had to look hard to see it.

The light appeared to be stationary. A few times it did move rather rapidly, but would stay in near the same place as it moved. The first time I saw it move was when it made a figure 8.

A few other times it moved ever so slightly, but didn't really go anywhere. It also made a few "sparkles" but that only happened when other aircraft came near it. I saw 5-6 planes go near the two objects, it was hard to see them becuase that didn't have very bright lights flashing like most air liners you see.

The planes could have been from the military, it looked like one of them shot a missile at it one time, (that is when I saw the first "sparkle") but I dont know if that idea would be true, or becusae I have wathced to many "UFO" shows in the past. The 2nd ufo I saw was higher in the sky than the 1st, and it stayed in the same spot the whole time I was watching. It was not as bright and was about 1/2 the size as the 1st light.

It had a shape of the two balls stuck togther the whole time. I didn't see the lights come in. I just had gone outside and saw them.

I didn't see them leave either. I had watched them for a couple hours and the desire for sleep took over since my family was leaving early in the morning to head back to where I live. I would have stayed to see them depart, but they didnt show any signs of leaving.

I could have been there till daylight watching them, or maybe just a few more minutes. I guess I will never know. ((NUFORC Note: We suspect the individual was looking at celestial bodies, but that is a guess.

What is really out there? One of my friends was in a trance like state for a half an hour or so. The next thing we seen was five lights right in front of him. The top light was red, the next was yellow, green, and then red.

On the bottom white light.It moved away when he left the area.The lights i saw were -not- of this world.

A glowing oval-shaped object with a ring around it with pulsating lights Glowing and oval-shaped sphere with a glowing ring around it (resembling the ring around Saturn). There were lights pulsating from different angles of the sphere and sparking from all sides of the sphere. It hovered with no noticable movement for approximately 10 minutes at which point it retreated and headed south and then hovered in the southwestern sky for approximately 10 minutes.

We attemptempted to reach NASA but were unable to get a reachable number. By the time we were done trying to contact the UFO was out of sight.

I have no clue but ok A friend and I where walking around 3 in the morning to go fishing at the river down the street and then like 50 feet from my home there was a nice open field. My friend and I saw this very bright light like someone was in my face with a mag-light. Then we herd this humming sound.

Then this light went from one end of the sky too thee other in probley 5 seconts. Then the light just was gone and there was still a lot of sky there to see the light. ((NUFORC Note: Date is approximate.

Must have been an alien satalite sent to scan our planet.doubtful it was a ship carrying actual aliens The object moved east to west across the night sky. It had a red light at the end of each point.

As it moved forward across the sky it was also flipping at a regular rate. As it moved across the sky a new point would flip into position and it continued to regularly flip and change its orientation all the way across the sky. I can say that i could see a very black body, with the help of the red light at each point.

The object was much darker than the lighter star lit background. I was facing south, towards the ocean and looking up at the object about 65 or 70 degrees from the southern horizon. I hollared for my brother to come out side and see this.

I'm not sure if he made it out there in time. I waited too long to come to my senses to get a witness, when it finally dawned on me i'm not sure if he made it in time but i'm sure i gave him a full description of the object. ((NUFORC Note: Witness indicates that date is approximate.

Maine012001 I have no idea if what I saw was a plane or UFO. I awoke at 6 am and looked out the window to see a large amount of bright light coming from object in the sky. I stared at the object as it came across the treeline.

The light would dart in the sky from side to side. Then for no reason went up faster than any other plane I have ever seen in this area. The light began to grow a slight bit dimmer as it rose and went away from me the opposite dirrection that it was moving.

It seemed to have a bright light coming from the bottom. I could also see 2 beems of light coming off from it for a few minutes. This could have been do to fog or something and strobes bouncing off from it.

The object then moved closer and went to the other side of the house. It was gone in no time at all.

red cigar shaped object in sky over Waldoboro, Maine I was driving on route 1 southbound when I noticed a bright object in the sky straight ahead and in the sky. I watched the object until returning to the farm that I drive a delivery truck from. I thought at first of a meteor but there was no tail involved.

I also thought about an aircraft yet there was no jet stream coming from it. When I returned to the farm I told my bosses girlfriend to take a look at it. Her daughter and she and I looked at it out the back window.

We got a pair of binoculors to try to get a better view of it as we could not tell what it was. on closer examionation with the binoculars we still had no idea. It was red like it was on fire and a cigar shape to it.

We did not see any blinking lights or anything that made it look like a plane. ( I thought it may be a plane with the sun setting reflecting off of it) The object was traveling horizontally in the southwest direction.
