Montana UFO Sightings in 2005

Huge bright light rotating recedes into distance and just fades out while I film. I went outside to put dog on leash. It's very cold out, probably in the minus degrees.

I look to my left and there is a huge glowing light in the sky at tree level less than a mile as the crow flies. I am looking at it for about 10-15 seconds and then say go in and get video camera. I do and very quickly go out and start filming.

It is huge at first in my viewfinder then recede on it's own like it knew right away I had a camera. My hands are shaking a bit but I am keeping camera as steady as possible. Throughout the entire sighting till it fades away I always have the object in the viewfinder.

It appears to rotate and is really a very large object. It recedes back away from the viewfinder at a gradual rate until it just disappears by fading out! This all happens in about 2 minutes. I have the closeup button pressed all the way within a second or two of beginning filming and it stays like that till it completely fades out.

Then about 7:40 pm I went out again and saw a plane in the same vicinity as the object I had just filmed so I filmed that, then pointed the camera around for reference and showed the huge moon (in the completely opposite direction of the object). Where my home is when I use the compass if north is 360, E is 90, S is 180 and W 270, then the object was at about 240 and the moon at about 30. I felt like the object knew I was there or even knew I was going to go outside then.

We live on the Reservation close to the base of the mountains. I am not sure how to email the video to you but I would like to. I would like to see it slowed down a lot to see the detailed rotation movement and fade out.

It was really very unusual and exciting. This is not the first time I have seen these huge lights, but this may be the best film I have taken of one of these fading out on me. At this time of year it gets dark around 5:10 pm, but the last couple nights have been bright because the moon is near full, so the landscape glows with the moon rays.

There are no structures on the ridge where the light hovered. Regards, ((name deleted)).

large firball falls behind columbia mountain this morning four of my friends and i saw a fireball over columbia mountain the fireball was pretty big in comparison to the mountain and it was bright orange the fireball streamed down ant a steady rate untill it dissapeared behind the mountain then the tail of fire behind it.

Two triangle shaped craft spotted over Elk Park, Montana. I was heading home on the highway from work on Tuesday 11/22/05 from my job 40 miles outside of town. This stretch of highway is about 10-15 miles north of Butte, MT.

At approx. 2:20pm-2:30pm as I was climbing the winding pass up through Elk Park canyon I spotted 2 triangle shaped craft in the sky between 2 mountains. I was filled with a sensation of panic as soon as I spotted them because I knew what I was seeing was neither ordinary, nor something that I had seen before.

Because I have no idea of the actual size of the craft, it is difficult to guage their altitude but they did appear to be flying higher than the mountains, and one craft appeared to be flying slightly higher than the other. The sun was bright that day and from the reflection of sunlight off of the craft they appeared to be chrome, they were very bright. At first glance the craft appeared to be stationary but after a few seconds of observation it looked like they were moving slowly towards the southwest.

They also appeared to be moving much slower than any aircraft I have ever seen. It was a very cold day, yet the craft left no contrails as they moved. As I continued up the highway, my view of the craft was obscured as the road wound around a mountain side.

I thought for sure I would have a clearer view of them another 1/2 mile or so up the road where the highway comes out of the canyon and opens up into plains, but when I got there they were gone. I thoroughly searched the sky for them and could not see them. They appeared to be moving southwest, and there were mountains a few miles south that I suppose they probably moved behind.

There were other motorists on the highway that day but I'm not sure if anyone else saw them. Judging from their position in the sky I would guess the craft would also have been visible from another highway further south than the one I was on.(Homestake Pass, the highway from Butte MT to Whitehall MT) I did not observe any other aircraft in the sky at the time.

I did not notify the police or any other authorities, but I felt that what I saw was so unusual that I should notify someone.By the way I am a ((deleted)) worker for the State of Montana, Department of ((deleted)).

We/I saw 6 orangish light over Blaine County. I was driving to south from Fort Belknap along on Route 66, at half way to our home and as I look out while my mom was looking up in sky for half seconds at that time, she finally ask me is that an airplane, and I look under over her passenger window, at first I thought it can't be and I never saw anything like that defintely it was not aircraft with strobe light. 6 orangeish alike colors in the line and two in front were seprated from other four light and moving forward at great speed and disappear while the other four still at same place with out any motion and two light little light starting to approach closer behind the four light as it become more bigger and brighter light like the other lights still at same place while two approaching park right behind the four light and the four lights starting to fade away the other two fade away quickly.

I thought it was firework but when two light came back look like entering earth and doesnt even look like shoot from the ground it and it defintely came from the sky. My mom agrees its not any kind of an aircrafts no big airplane can fly together like that or at great speed. My mom doesnt know for sure it was orangeish alike but she saw some of not really white almost like very light brownish like haze, but something is very unsual when four lights dont even move at all at whole minute while the other fly around and come back to them and then she agree with me that it is UFO… ((NUFORC Note: Witness elects to remain totally anonymous; provides no contact information.

Low flying triangular shaped object quickly moving across the sky Three amber colored lights in the shape of a triangle were seen flying low above Helena. The object moved in a southeasterly direction. After six seconds of viewing, the lights moved flawlessly into a straight line while maintaining an equal distance between the other.

Within 10-15 seconds the lights were out of view. No sounds were heard as the object moved across the sky, which at the time appeared to be less than 10,000 feet above the ground (estimation). Phenomenal event-one I will not soon forget!.

egg/circle shaped, red/yellow/white lights - west of Lincoln tonight This is the first weekend that I have driven to Lincoln and back to Missoula since the days have become shorter, the sky is now dark enough in the evening that anything in the sky would stand out. I saw, several miles east of Lincoln, a flashing egg shaped, or circle shaped, object in the sky above a ridgeline directly in front of a bend on Hwy 200. I'm not familiar with the area's backroads so I couldn't tell you exactly what mountain range or roads you would have to take to reach that summit.

Now at home, I can look at the map and say that it was north of Nevada Lake, west of Great Divide Ski Area. My depth perception probably wasn't that great, so the object was probably farther west than that - probably at a distance near I-90 - as I later figured once I headed further west (but I'll get to that in a minute). I just remember rounding the bend and immediately having a gut feeling, after looking at the extremely large light in the sky, that I needed to pull over to make sure I knew what I was looking at.

I wanted to make sure it wasn't a mountainside flashing beacon for planes or an airplane itself. It hovered above the ridgeline. So I thought, perhaps, that it was a star.

However, the flashing red and yellow or white lights were really curious looking. Aircraft have rhythms, straight flight pathes (pretty much, unless they bank and even then it's a wide turn) and consistent light patterns, but this one did not. It was sporadic and the red was flashing in uneven, non-patterns.

It stayed in the same position and did not move for approx. 7 minutes. Then it moved right and then straight down beyond the ridgeline out of sight.

I pulled back onto the road and headed west again on Hwy 200 hoping to catch another glimpse of it just to be sure - I like to play devil's advocate, even to myself. I did see it again and took a left turn at the Avon/Helmville cut-off road. I drove down about a mile and parked to see it better.

It eventually disappeared out of sight, down over what seemed to be a ridgeline of some sort way in the distance (looking towards the Garnet Range (now that I'm looking at a map). There must have been some kind of ridgeline in the distance maybe covered by fog because of the way it disappeared. But you couldn't see it with the naked eye either.

Once I head back that way during the daylight hours (and no fog) I'll try and see if there is indeed a mountain range there. To the right of me (during this occurance, as I was traveling to my second location to stop and look) there was one aircraft flying which eventually flew so far north I couldn't see it through the clouds anymore. Then about the time that one was too distant for the naked eye, another one appeared and went parellel to Hwy 200, then out of sight.

I stopped even further down the road, approx right past the North Fork of the Blackfoot River, just before Ovando and looked back into the sky to make sure I didn't see anything else. Once stopped, I saw another three jets total in the time that I sat there. I marked the time that I started watching from my first stop, but then lost track of the clock at this point while looking.

One of the jets was traveling quite fast and you could see the mist tail emitting from it. Whether or not these jets were military or commercial aircraft, I cannot say. I thought it extremely peculiar that so many aircraft would be in that vacinity at the same time buzzing around.

I kept looking at the sky all the way back to Missoula and never saw any more aircraft. And why not? I was nearing Missoula, which has an airport! Am I just a dork? 3 different colored objects moving down towards me. I was walking along the road (hwy.35) in Bigfork when I looked up I saw a bright reddish light hovering above me.

As I stood there in complete amazment it suddenly disapeared and another one just like it appeared directly under its location, however this new one had a yellowish hue to it. Just when I thought I had seen it all, it too disappeared and was soon replaced with a very distinct green roundish shape. By this time I was totally freaked out and ran as fast as I could, to get away from it as it seemed to be moving in a downward direction to me! Three day sighting spectacular! Just moved here from Fresno CA. I have had only 2 other sightings in my life. None of which compared at all to what I have seen on the dates of 10-05-05 through 10-07-05.

The first night, I was stuck outside of the house (keys were not made yet) waiting for my girlfriend and her family to come back home. We live in a residential area nearby the airport, and Malstrom AFB is about 10 or so miles away. Around 9:30 pm, I saw 2 shapes outlines under the clouds.

pitch black. large boomerang shape, no lights, not a sound. at arms distance, they would be about the size of my hand.

One was slightly smaller, or further away. I have no idea how high the clouds were that night, but I felt they were close. I didn't think much of the sighting at first.

there were lots of large birgs flying south, and I had seen them in the day time, flying in similar formation. But I kept my eye in the sky. About 5 minutes later, a few more went nearly overhead, no sound, same shape.

but these were not birds, or crazy hang-gliders. They seemed to be going to slow to stay in the sky, but really how can you know how fast they are going. After that.

I saw something that made me scream literally. And cuss. just a bit.

A triangle shape, with two rows of lights on all sides came just over a nieghbors house, about 200 ft. down the road. silent.

Then stopped completely, and stood up as to show off. and sat for maybe 3 or four seconds. and faded into the stars.

I am surprized I didn't get shot at for yelling like that. my heart was pounding. and no one else was seeing this.

After some more sightings. and around 10:00. the family pulled up, and I told them what I had seen.

After a few jokes.haha, and unloading the car at light speed, I was out in the driveway again. My girlfriend stayed inside.

I ended up seeing "something" 32 times that night. The next night about 16, and the last night, I stayed up until past 4 in the am. and saw roughly 44 of these.

altogether, a a few triangles, and even a circle shaped craft. my girlfriend and I together have seen well over a dozen. and even her mom saw one nearby.

and well, shes not one to give in easily. I know the airbase is nearby, but the people here say that the runway at the base is shut down, and they are flying out of the airport. Unfortunatly, I haven't seen anything since.

I believe these are not experimental. and why would they fly them right over the city all night. "Electric City" at that.

flashing red and green object at night. then suddenly a flash bulb type of light went off right below it. we were elk hunting and went out at night about 22:00 listening for elk bugle.

we watched in the northeast hemisphere and noticed the star was flashing green and red through our binoculars. then suddenly a flash came below it with a center of light just below the object.

Bright Lights on the High-Line Well this sighting time is not exact, as this even has occurred spuratically over a few years after a first sighting caught my attention and sparked my hightened awareness to the lights that surrounded me in my rural montana sky. At the times of these sightings i ranged in age of 17-19 years old. If there is any doubt as to my credibility, i assure you i have nothing to gain from wasting my time with a false report.

I am however completely astonished to see that other people in Havre, MT have had VERY similar accounts on dates that i very well could have been seeing the same thing! So i apologize that the dates are not accurate, but the account however is most definately accurate, as i can best recount. The most vivid memory i have of these fireballs was not my first, but i must however tell the story of the first sighting of these so called fireball or bright light. So it happened that me and my very best friend, who is also witness to this and a few other sightings, were driving northeast on what would be an unmapped dirt road on a state map, but the locals all know this as a network of back roads connecting local amish (hudderites) communities and leading to the highway that goes to canada.

So here we are driving on this dirt road, staring at the stars above and smoking like chimneys just enjoying the company, when we decided we had better turn around as this dirt road goes forever, and we didnt intend on going the full route. Upon turning around and driving for sometime we approached over a hill and i noticed something i definately didnt see going the other way. Now over this hill the landscape evened out, as is common in the hilly area of havre, and i asked my friend if she saw it, and what she thought of it.

Open minded as we are, we speculated that it must be a light up on a pole on someones farm. Still stopped we stared for some time at it, it was noticeably brighter and more orange than a streetlamp, or a light on a pole at someones farm might be, just a little fireball with consistent edges that didnt move. However upon careful consideration this light had to be up higher than any light on a pole could be, and way too low to be a star, and too bright for that matter, and too orange.

That kind of gave me the creeps, especially that it was hovering in the southern sky, same direction as where i live, and the road i got to travel home alone on. The both of us would recount this story nearly the same, storytelling ability aside, i have given my best memorial account of this event.which led to many other sightings of exactley the same object, and this most noteable one i will share with you next.

At the time of the first sighting, it must have been early before winter, as it was cold, or i would have got out, and before there was snow on the ground. However i clearly remember this most memorable sightings season, as there was plenty of snow, and everything was white, making a nice white horizon off in the distance where the hills rolled off into the beaver creek park. This time me and my best friend, again at night, anywhere between 9pm-12am, were traveling on this dirt route forementioned in my previous account, i noticed there were three lights off in the distance, and in the same area as the previous sights to a tee, now i had seen three lights before in a straight line formation, however they never moved.

Now this time me and my friend were already stopped when we both realized the lights at the same time, they were going to dance for us. One, two, three lights spaced evenly apart all jumped up, leaving a tail that dissipated, to a higher location, and jumped then to a lower location, that was lower than where they were at initial sighting, this happened rather quickly, the jumps taking about 3 seconds a piece. After each jump the lights would all disappear and then reappear, it was like as the tail faded so did the light.

It was a pattern obviously. Appear, jump leaving a tail, disappear, reappear in new location. In that order.

Now as they are appearing and reappearing and whatnot, im telling my friend to flash the car lights at them, like maybe we could get a response. To no avail, but it was worth a shot, in my opinion they were obvlivious to us. They did eventually blink out, they did not appear to travel away, as in get further away then closer, they stayed at the same distance away from us.

Now i grew up in Havre and was always fascinated by its bright sky with so much going on in it, and it was all visible. Over the years there are certain things you see all the time. Sattelites, jets, planets that are brighter on certain days, meteor showers, every cosmic even that goes on in our horizon is visible to us, because thats the beauty of Montana.

I say this so that i can distinguish to you that i have the common knowledge to differentiate between something explainable to us, and something that is not. These fireballs are to me one of many things, one is it is possible alien spacecraft, manned, or unmanned, who knows. It could be military training, or military related, as there are Nuclear bombs all along the hi-line from what i hear, not sure if any in the immediate Havre proximity, but theres alot of land out there, and i know of one you can see on the way to great falls.

What if those lights are what cause crop circles? I was always interested to know weather or not the local farmers ever had one appear. What if this is actually a craft lifting off or studying something. It could be one craft or many crafts.

If its one craft it would have to be a very bright, small craft. If it is one, then it would have to be dark and those would have to be its lights, but im only speculating at this point, relaying what goes through my mind when i recount this memory. Now i hope this helps other locals out there, and i encourage all to share theyre stories of weird lights over montana.

What a perfect place to see a UFO, so clear and so much unused land. Just like new mexico and nevada, there is alot of unused land. Could the government be using it? Speculating again, ahh what can i say to a wandering mind when it comes to matters like this.

Many lights appear at once, 4 known witnesses. At approximately 8:40pm on 9/14/2005 as I was leaving my friends house to give my girlfriend a ride home I noticed a high flying very bright white dot fly behind some clouds. I thought maybe it was a satellite dish.

As I was watching it I noticed that it was moving very fast, unlike a satellite or airplane, it was very bright. After about 30 seconds of watching it I noticed that about 5 more of these started to appear all over the sky all around the same time. These bright lights were moving very fast, all over the place.

About 15 seconds after the other lights showed up an much bigger object appeared. The very large object was bright and slow. It was not moving near as fast as the small lights, it was traveling slowly, it was dimming in and out.

It would be bright and fade out, then get bright, fade out, etc. After fading in and out for about 10 seconds it completely disappeared, that is when I ran inside to get my 2 friends because I knew this was very strange. When we were all outside, the large pulsating light was gone but the smaller lights were still in the sky flying around.

About 2 minutes later, the large light appeared again very briefly, disappeared, and was on the other side of the sky. Surrounding the large light were about 5 of the smaller lights, just hovering around it. This lasted a very short amount of time and they all started to disappear one by one.

On the opposite side of the sky, the last little light we saw shot out into space at a very high speed until we couldn't see it anymore. Not even a minute after the last light shot into space, 2 Air Force jets flew by. I knew these were jets for obvious reasons (lights and sound).

Many lights in the sky all at once, four witnesses. It was a beautiful night, you could see all the stars clearly so I was looking at them with my boyfriend. Then five different small bright lights all across the sky appear, we watched them and they became more than just lights.

They all started moving really fast and they came together in a formation. Five bright lights in a circle, all of the sudden a large glowing orange ball appeared in the center. I was in shock.

The biggest ball started to fade in and out as the five other objects stayed completely still, I would say I saw it fade in and out twice and then it disappeared as did four of the five other lights. The one that was left shot off like a rocket into the distance, it climbed very fast and it was gone. Soon after, two jets flew by the general area.

First Incident: At 21:55 I was outside and noticed a light in the sky moving. It looked just like a star. There was no flashing strobes lights on it, just a solid light.

I did not hear any sound from it. I watched the object move towards my location. I then went and got my wife to come out and look at it.

My wife and I observed this object go directly above our location. Once it started passing by I noticed another object that looked identical. The new object was going towards the other object.

It looked like the were about to collide, because the new object appeared to pass right in front of the other. The objects continued there course for another minute then both objects lights disappered. There was no sound throughout the incident.

Second Incident: I went back outside to look at the sky again this time with my son who is 10 years old. At 22:25 My Son and I noticed a object that looked just like the one I saw 30 minutes earlier. Just a solid light that looked like the other stars in the sky.

It made no noise. As my Son and I watched this object go overhead again I noticed another object again that looked identical. Just a solid light and no noise.

This time both objects were parallel to each other. As we watched these objects, we noticed that one of the lights got extremely bright for less than five seconds, then went back to its normal setting. The objects were observed for another minute then again disappered.

Bright, direction changing light over Glacier National Park My wife and I were camping at the Many Glacier Campground in Glacier National Park and took a break from the campfire to look at the stars around 2200 hrs. To the north, at what appeared to be a high altitude, we noticed a single, very bright object moving from E to W at average speed. It was a steady, white, brilliant light, then after about 30 seconds of brilliant illumination, it dimmed and changed directions to a NW bearing.

No flashing or colored lights were visible. We wouldn't have rendered the object unusual had it not changed directions so rapidly (an instantaneous, sharp directional change). The aurora boealis became visible a few minutes after the object had passed out of sight.

Large boomerang object flies close to ground. A friend and I were sitting outside on a fort raised off the ground. The sun had barely gone down and a storm clouds were coming from the north, you could see lightening and hear thunder in the distance.

Once the boomerang object came into our view from the east, you could no longer hear the thunder though you could still see lightening. It was traveling very very slowly. Had a few circular lights.

Flew directly over us, very close to the ground. Passed within a few minutes and continued on going east before we couldnt see it in the clouds. Once it had passed you could hear the thunder once more.

Strange Disked Shape object flies over part of the town, then dissapears. When I was in my friend's back yard talking to him, i noticed an object in the sky to the south. The object looked like it was going Southwest.

It was a silverish-white and it looked a little bit like a saucer. I kept on telling my friend "Dude look theres something in the sky." He kept on saying," WHERE?!", whenever I told him.

He finally saw it, but then after a few seconds , it disappeared, not out of sight, but it just dissapeared. My two theories are : #1 it had some kid of cloak so we couldn't see it. #2 it accelerated at an incredible speed in a blink of an eye.

We never saw it again. I am no longer a Montanan resident but i know it wasnt any planes we have around the airport outside of town. I truely believe it wasnt any plane.

DISAPPEARING CRAFT ALONG THE BRIDGER RANGE I HAVE A SECOND FLOOR APARTTMENT IN BELGRADE WITH A PORCH THAT HAS A PANORAMIC VIEW OF THE BRIDGER MOUNTAIN RANGE AND ALSO LOOKS ALMOST DIRECTLY OVER THE AIRPORT. I WENT OUT TO LIGHT MY BBQ GRILL WHEN AS I WAS GVOING OUT THE DOOR I NOTICED WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A SMALL CESSNA STYLE AIRPLANE FLYING VERY CLOSE TO THE MOUNTAINS AND AT WHAT SEEMED LIKE A RATHER SLOW SPEED. I AM ALWAYS WATCHING PLANES AND THE SKY BECAUSE I'M VERY INTERESTED IN AVIATION AS WELL AS ASTRONOMY.

I WATCHED CLOSLEY AS THE CRAFT MOVED FROM S.E TO N.W.

WHEN SUDDENLY IT DISAPPEARED. I WAS SHOCKED AS I THOUGHT I WAS WITNESSING A PLANE CRASH BUT, THERE WAS NO SMOKE OR RESCUE DISPATCHED OR ANYTHING. THE CRAFT WAS FLYING BELOW THE ALTITUDE OF THE MOUNTAIN TOPS AND I CAN'T EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED , I NEVER TOOK MY EYES OFF IT AS IT MOVED ACROSS THE BRIDGER RANGE.

THERE ARE ALOT OF FOLKS IN THIS AREA WHO HANDGLIDE AND SUCH BUT THEY DON'T FLY ON THIS SIDE OF THE RANGE AND IT WAS TO BIG TO BE ANYTHING LIKE THAT. ITS NOT THE FIRST TIME I'VE SEEN STRANGE THINGS IN THIS AREA.

Glowing orbs in various places and then a sweeping light across the mountain unlike anything I've ever seen. I was fourteen, I live in Washington D.C, but I was up at our cabin in Montana with my whole family.

My grandma, uncle, and I were outside looking at the stars. My uncle told us he saw a glowing light about fifteen feet in front of us. We all looked where he was pointing.

For about 10 seconds ever 5 or so minutes, an extremely bright light about the shape and size of a softball would glow. It was white and extremely bright. Our cabin is pretty isolated so it is pitch dark except for the stars.

After watching the glowing orb for about half an hour, I noticed there was another one in the trees to our left. We began to get a little freaked out and tried to come up with explanations, because we were all hardly ones to believe in UFOs. After watching the orb in the tree and the one in the tall grass 15 feet in front of us, we noticed one far in the distance on the top of Black Butte (the mountain in front of our cabin).

At first we thought it was a star, because it was on the edge. But it was so bright and too big to be a star. At that point, it began to inch extremely slow in a straight line across the mountain.

I really have no idea how to explain the next part of our sighting to you. We had been watching the orbs for give or take an hour and a half. We were frozen there, mesmerized by what was going on.

All of the sudden, out of the pitch black, a bright white light swept across the side of the mountain, and across the field beneath the mountain next to our cabin. We could see everything in the light. Everything else was pitch black except for were the light was hitting, it was illuminating every tree, every blade of grass, everything in its path.

I ran inside to get my dad and my grandpa, but by the time I got them to come out, everything was gone. We tried to explain what had just happened but it just sounded crazy. I know what I saw, and my uncle (33 at the time) and my grandma (64 at the time) know as well.

Bright flying object with red and white flashing lights, soundless, moving erradically. The night sky was clear with stars showing. The object came into view while I was staring out the window lying in bed.

It was white with red and white flashing lights. The lights were strobing fast. The object seemed to be moving fast, erradically, zigzagging, making turns in sharp corners.

Maybe tumbling. It was heading first West, then N. west , then No.

I went to the window and saw it pass out of my view. I went from window to window and then ran outside. It was gone.

It had made no sound -- I had the window open. It had the whole open sky before it so it should have been there when I went outside. I am actually not sure what the shape was.

It appeared small and white and high but the lights were brilliant.

See emailed photo I have photo in which I discovered something in the sky. I took the picture in June of 2005 at my father's ranch in Montana. I was looking at the photos today and noticed an object in the sky.

It is really unusual and I think it warrants further review.
