Glowing trail of orange-white light low in the sky accompanied by super-bright, blue-white light high in the sky. I arrived home from shopping and parked my vehicle in the garage. Neighbors were walking westward down our cul-de-sac street when they passed in front our driveway and asked "do you see the light in the sky?' I stepped out of the garage and walked down the driveway approximately 20 feet to the street in order to see a trail of glowing orange-white light low in the western sky.
This trail of light had a "switchback" appearance to it and originated in the west and traveled across the low horizon towards my location in the east. This trail glowed quite brightly with varying intensities across the length of the trail for approximately 10-15 minutes and then slowly disipated and disappeared. Above the trail of orange-white light low in the sky appeared a very bright blue-white light traveling northeast to southwest high in the sky at a constant altitude.
This bright blue-white light illuminated an obvious and very large "cone" of smoke or spent gas behind it as it progressed across the sky. This light burned much shorter than the low trail of light glowed - perhaps 5-7 minutes. When the bright blue-white light extinguished it did so with a momentary super-intense bright white flash.
After the high, bright blue-white light extinguished the extremely large "cone" of smoke or gas eminating from behind the light was still visible for approximately 10 minutes until it too disipated and disappeared. Throughout the event I was looking at the western sky with binoculars and sighted 5 aircraft that appeard to be helicopters operating along the low horizon. Local radio news reports broadcast on KFYI AM 550 in Phoenix, AZ reported the event as a "top-secret satellite launch from Vandenburg A.
F.B. in California".
I have witnessed several night launches of missles, rockets and space launch vehicles (some from Vandenburg A.F.B.
) and none of these previous launches left a "switchback" trail of orange-white spent gasses in the atmosphere. Further, if this was a vertical, space-vehicle launch, what explains the bright, blue-white light traveling northeast to southwest across the sky at a constant altitude and then extinguishing with a flash? I could understand the news report as a "satellite launch" if the launch vehicle went out of control (creating the "switchback" trail of orange-white light) and the launch was pre-empted by ground control and the vehicle destroyed. That would also explain the "horziontal", northeast to southwest travel of the bright, blue-white light at a constant altitude, the "cone" of smoke or gas behind it and the momentary super-intense bright white flash just before the light extinguished.

Response to orange balls of light seen: I've seen them since 2004 I have seen these orange balls of lights over the valley south of my location, that of which being Scottsdale. I am guessing that they were located over Chandler or the Queen Creek area. I have always viewed them at around 9:00 at night around 5 times since February of 2004.
The last time I saw them was September of 2005. My father used to be a pilot for many years and he too is unsure of what they are. He knows that they are not flares since they stay at the same elevation for the entire 20min or so that they are in the sky and no smoke.
When they disappear they simply blink out. I usually see a minimum of 2 lights parallel to one another, but I have seen 3 before. I had never intentionally looked for these lights, each instance I just so happened to see them.
I wish we knew what they were, but who knows if we will ever find out. ((NUFORC Note: Witness indicates that the date of the event is approximate. PD)) ((NUFORC Note: Witness elects to remain totally anonymous; provides no contact information.

Star=like object at sunset simply disappears in mid-flight. Looking out window on second story of home and watched what I thought was a single light from a private plane. Light was the size of a bright star moving west to east.
Visiblity was excellent due to the setting sun. The area of the sky where I first saw the light was in between the yellow/orange sky to greying area. No clouds in that area.
To my suprise, the light simply blinked out. If it had been dark outside, I would have thought it was turned off. But due to the excellent lighting, when the light went off, there was nothing there.
Nothing but sky. Very odd indeed. Thanks ((NUFORC Note: Witness elects to remain totally anonymous.

We saw a round, "covered-bowl"-shaped object, l arge as a house, of luminous white light, slowly move, hover, & float down out of view. It was dark, but the moon had not come up in the sky as yet. We were walking on a residential city block, in a populated area of town, near a couple of busy intersections.
I noticed two planes in the sky at the time. One possibly private, coming from the east and closer to us, and one possibly commercial, coming up from the south west onto the scene slightly later, as the object was descending. We first noticed the object coming from south to north for several minutes.
It was moving very slowly. It made no noise, had no aura or beams projecting from it, and left no trail. It looked the shape of a round bowl covered with a top that had a small "cabin" area in the middle center of it.
It was very large, appearing to be maybe the size of a large house. It was uniformly and completely lumninous, as bright as the moon, but much whiter. (The moon came up over the trees about 15 minutes later, from the east, and was yellow.
) The object then hovered for a couple of minutes, them "wobbled" a little, giving the impression that it was turning. I became aware of a very small white light, steadily shining, on the object's "east side." The object started moving eastward a short distance.
Then for a couple of minutes, it seemed to be bobbing, somewhat like a balloon on a string, bobbing in the air. After that, it began to appear to float and sway slightly as it descended below the tree line and out of our view. I have a BA degree, with 13 years experience as an administrator in social services.
Currently, I am a health educator with an internationally known, non-profit organization. My daughter is working in retail and has just completed her first year at a local college. We have lived in this area for 7 years.

bright lights in a triangle formation My wife and were driving down a road entering our nieghborhood, when I noticed three lights in a triangle formation. I pointed it out to her, and within 5 seconds of starring at it we noticed the lights began to fade within 3 to 5 seconds later the lights were completly gone. The lights were about as bright as a plane in the distance, but they disappeared way too quickly and at the same exact time to be anything else but a UFO.
