LOOK DAD! What is that? Started off whispy faint orange / white then brilliant flame orange then white again April 27 2013 22:00, We had exited the Ball park to go home after a win-game. Nearing the car my daughter said, Dad look! What is that? A small dot of light, proceeded by what looked like broadening sweeping translucent light beams, was coming our way. Coming out of the South.
We were lucky to catch it at around 30-40 degree above the horizon. As it was nearing, we saw a small dim white dot of light, preceded by parallel stubby broad/flat beams of translucent white light. The twin beams seemed to be rotating or perhaps a shaft-like-shadow was rotating around within the light beam-left to right around the dot of light.
My Guess is, it was, in either case, rotating around the point of light. Toward the aft side we could not see the beams very well, (possibly because they were edge on. But as it swept around from left to right (counter clockwise) we saw the broad flat face side of them leading the dot of light.
I stated, “woah, yeah looks like a angel huh? I mean it looks sort of like an angel.” (Simply because of it’s almost Christmassy shape, though somewhat upside downish. As this thing got near 45-50 incline from horizon it began to glow more orange.
By 60 degree incline it got to be quite a dazzling flame like orange, yet still just a dot. The angel wings (the broad beams of translucent light) seemed to glow mixed orange and white. I was not sure if it was an ‘Jet airliner” illumination the clouds in the sky.
I watched for different lengthening of the beams as it moved, The beams stayed the same length. I could not tell by that alone if this “thing” was in the cloud. I concluded it must be below the cloud layer.
Though aircraft always have more than one light. Either red green or white. And Usually one or more blinking on and off.
No, I thought, this is no Jet airliner. It’s just a single dot of non blinking light, so I thought “Helicopter”. Yet, not a single sound of any kind from it.
I just could NOT identify it or set it apart from what my many years of looking up had been used to seeing. It was a fascinating flame orange color which I had never seen before. As it passed over head it was back to it’s soft luminescent white light beams and a dull light dot.
We watched it as it moved on toward direct North eventually going below the tree tops. We “other witnesses” shared a few speculative words, keeping it cool. And carried on with ouR business of going home.
“Wondering”. These numbers ( 41.647299 -72.
774296 ) are exact location where we stood upon seeing this thing. ((NUFORC Note: Witness elects to remain totally anonymous; provides no contact information. PD)).

It’s just a single dot of non blinking - non flickering light, so I thought ‘Helicopter’? Yet, not a single sound of any kind from it. I just could NOT identify it or set it in a category apart from what my many years of looking up had been used to seeing. I! t was a fascinating flame orange color which I had never seen before.
As it passed over head (~75 incline looking West) it was back to it’s soft luminescent white light (halo-ish) beams and a dull light dot. We watched it as it moved on toward direct South eventually going below the tree tops (with no definable point of lights - just a ghostly white). We “other witnesses” shared a few speculative words, keeping it cool.
One woman said; ‘.it’s a Chinese lantern, they look like that. We don’t want to scare the kids’.
