Very fast moving bright blue/white light Traveling home from Chapel Hill, NC, last night (April 12, 2017, at about 8pm) towards Monroe, NC (driving southwest), I observed a very intensely bright light ball moving extremely fast across the sky near Asheboro, NC, but in the rural part of Randolph County. This was obviously not a plane or helicopter because of the lack of signal lights and the absolutely incredible speed. My first thought, after ruling out planes and helicopters, was perhaps that I saw a *huge* meteor; but, the object was different enough that I couldn't rationalize a meteor.
For example, it did not appear to travel like meteors I have seen in the past which appear high up in the atmosphere and quickly burn out. In terms of assessing the possibility of larger, lower flying meteors, the object did not have the characteristic "burn trail" or "tail" that a low burning meteor typically has (at least in my experience of seeing photos of low meteors). This object was clearly moving horizontally across the sky at what appeared to be a constant altitude with no trail.
The object was an intense blue/white light ball, and it appeared to have a very slight haze near it, but this "haze" could have been an optical illusion, given the brightness of the object and the speed with which it moved. Any "haze" that was present was no larger dimension than the diameter of the light ball, so it did not seem to fit with a meteor trail. I first saw the light ball when it was just about the center of my windshield as I was driving.
It moved to my left, traveling southeast, and across the sky to the horizon or tree line in an elapsed time of only about 3-4 seconds. So, this light ball was clearly moving at an incredible speed whether low in the sky or higher than I suspected. I estimate it to have been lower than 500 feet, but that is clearly only an estimate, as I have no way of knowing its true size or altitude.
Again, unlike a meteor, the object did not burn out - it simply moved out of my sight at great speed. Regardless of what it was, it was a fascinating experience. This is the second time in the past 2 years that I have seen a fast moving object in the general area of central NC, once it the daytime (a "craft" of sorts previously reported here) and this bright, nighttime ball of light.
((ADDENDUM FROM WITNESS)) Dear Mr. Davenport, In response to your questions (my answers are given in brackets): As you faced the object, what was the approximate direction you were looking [I was on the road, so I only know the general cardinal direction, assuming a line between Chapel Hill and Monroe, NC. I did not think to look at my car direction indicator, so the best I can say here is that I was driving Southwest and generally looking in that direction.
Unfortunately, given the nature of winding roads in the rural counties, I cannot confirm the absolute direction of my vision] .and the angle of elevation above the horizontal plane [I had to move a bit to see it past my visor in the car, so it was up past 30 degrees for sure, but it was not by any means 90 degrees from the horizontal. My best estimate would be about 45-55 degrees from horizontal line of sight] .
Was the object in the northern sky, or the southern sky, from your vantage point, [Southern] .and was it traveling from your left to right side, or right to left? [the latter, right to left] Sorry I can't be more exact with some of these questions. The entire event took me by complete surprise.
I am pleased to know that others reported this event. I would love to know what you find out about the light, if indeed you are able to identify it. Is there a means by which I can stay abreast of any updates? Would you publish any such findings? Thank you and best regards, ((END ADDENDUM)).

On Friday 01/13/2017, at approximately 3 a.m., I was loading the car for at weekend trip, walking back in for more items to put into the car.
I was facing north. I looked up at what I believe was the North Star because of its position in the sky and brightness. From my viewpoint, I saw four lights in a square formation, to the left and just below the North Star.
They were only as bright as evening stars and constant, not blinking or flickering. I watched them as they move in formation from the right side of the North Star to the left side. They stayed in a square, for the most part, moving simultaneously closer to each other then away from each other making the square smaller then again larger.
While doing this, they did change places, moving from corner to corner in a clockwise direction. The west to east movement of the formation ended when at the lower right hand corner light moved out further away from being square, the only time the formation was not square. Then all four of the lights disappeared at the same time.
I did not time how long it was, but estimate it was about one to two minutes in duration. The lights were high in the sky and my view was not obstructed when they disappeared. ((NUFORC Note: We spoke via telephone with the witness, and we found him to be eloquent and serious-minded.
We suspect that he is a highly reliable witness. PD)).

Grey object, 5 miles north of Asheboro Airport, moving rapidly and changing directions at extreme angles. One object observed 5-6 miles (estimated) north of Asheboro Airport. Appeared to be grey in color, and shaped between an egg, saucer, and cigar.
I don't think it changed shape, but possibly viewed from different angles. It was against a background of dark grey clouds. I first saw it moving from west to east, then it appeared to go straight up then back towards the west at a downward angle to approximately the same altitude as it was when I first saw it.
The turns and change of directions were abrupt, and at very sharp angles. I lost sight of it at this point as it either went into the clouds or faded away. The horizontal distance it moved is difficult to estimate, bit I would put it at least 3-4 miles west to east.

Orange light crossed in front of me while driving and hovered above the trees, moving in a westward direction on an overcast night. Coming back from McDonald’s on North Fayetteville St., I took Old Liberty Rd.
home; on this road, at about 10:05 p.m., I see a small orange-ish light skip across the tops of the trees, going to the left.
I turn to look, and see a small, glowing (not shining) red-orange light flying smoothly across the neighborhood just over the tops of the trees. I decided to turn left onto Balfour Ave., and was able to take a few pictures (though not the best, I was driving, at night, and there was a windshield in the way).
It slowly climbed higher, and as I neared the intersection of Fayetteville and Balfour, I was able to stop and take a decent look at it; now high above the trees, it started off toward the direction of North Asheboro Middle School. I turned right instead, and went home. The night sky was overcast, save for one small section where the moon and a couple of stars shone through, but other than that, no other night sky lights were visible.
This light, w! hile closer to the ground, appeared to move/spin as it flew forward, and seemed to flicker at the sides like a fire ember, only much, much larger. ((NUFORC Note: Witness elects to remain totally anonymous; provides no contact information. PD)).

Some kind of space craft hovering near power poles, turquoise in color, with red lights around it. I was driving home from work after making my delivery and when I got about 2 miles outside of Asheboro, NC on I-73, I-74, I saw something I hadn’t seen before and I make this trip every day. I looked to my left about 2 or 3 miles ahead (it was dark) and there are some power poles/towers together that have some white lights going up the sides of them.
They are not the tallest towers around, because there are a bunch of them around the few mile stretch of road, but those two are the closet two that are together. As I got closer I noticed the color turquoise was illuminating from between the two towers. The closer I got the more distinguished it became and at 1st I thought it had to be a blimp.
But then I realized it wasn’t big enough. It was about half the size of a blimp. I kept looking for some kind of support under it like posts or metal legs holding it up and then I thought it must be a water tower they just put up, but I saw none when I got closer and it actually moved just a bit.
I noticed as I got closer it had a string red lights all the way around it protruding like Saturn’s halo but I think was attached. When I got as close as I could, which was about probably a ¼- ½ mile to my left off through the woods, I saw it the best I could. It was the shape of a sphere.
Almost like you would see in a cheesy sci fi movie form the 50’s. Illuminated in turquoise with the red lights going around it. It was actually chaos on the road as others saw it and were struggling to continues to drive straight as they tried to make out what they saw.
I thought I’d be side swiped, The only thing that saved it from happening was there wasn’t very many cars on the road…I saw 2 cars pull over, but I was afraid to, because I feared someone would ass end me looking at the site as opposed to seeing me on the shoulder, so I reached for my iPhone to take a pic/video and struggled to get it on and just as I held it up, the damn trees blocked my view. So I drove real slow for the next mile, hoping to get a break in the trees as everybody else did as well. The speed limit is 65 there and everybody was doing 40.
I took my exit about a mile later to go off on the split where I-74 leaves I-73 and hoped to get to an elevated spot where I could still see it. Finally as I began to give up I looked back and turned my neck as far as I could and I saw it! It had taken off and was headed due west (I was! headed north) and it had climbed high in a short amount of time, and it looked like a green airliner disappearing in the night sky. In about 3 minutes or so approx, I saw what appeared to be an air force jet go by high in the sky in that direction.
I also saw about 10 NC State police doing about 100 mph headed south toward where I just came from.

LARGE SILVER DISK SPOTTED OVER ASHEBORO, NORTH CAROLINA! The UFO looked silver and disk shaped. It had lights on the top that appeared to be red in color. And white lights on the side.
When I came out of my house, I saw a slow moving object to the north of my house and then it took a westerly turn and was gone. I also saw a small plane that came from the south. Although there was only one craft observed, it really scared me.
The craft made a soft, but high-pitched, chirp as it moved. And it is unknown if this craft landed or not.

Single bluish white downward arc of fast moving single light We were traveling 220 alt south at 65 mph coming into the city limits of Asheboro, when my wife saw a fast moving blusish white light that was traveling from east to west in a downward arc. I also saw it for a second when it just "went out." My wife is a doubter of UFOs, and I have an open mind to UFOs.
It takes something weird for my wife to make a comment like she did last night. We both have seen metor showers and this was not a "shooting star." It wasn't a spot light that stores use in the area.
My wife and I are both graduate level mental health and substance abuse therapists.

25 - 30 giant orange balls in the sky over Asheboro that floated and moved around then took off out of sight in the blink of the eye. I went outside to smoke at the Randolph Hospital and when I walked across the street to the smoking area the lady that was there already smoking said to me, "What is that in the sky are the shooting fireworks?" I looked up and there were about 25 to 30 glowing orange balls way up in the sky that started getting closer fast all coming from the same direction. They all stopped around the same area in the sky and kind of float there for a second then move real fast in different directions for a few minutes and then in a blink of the eye took off faster than anything I have ever seen.
I mean they were gone in less than a second. They all went at different intervals and made no noise. I called my wife and she ran down and got to see the last 4 of them right before they left.
They were very high in the sky and you could tell they were huge. Like I said I have never seen anything move like these things did and they looked just like orange balls of light in! the sky. Someone else had to have seen this it went on for quite a while and was very visible to see.
I took some pictures but all you can see is just orange balls of light I snapped them from my phone but I will never forget seeing this it was incredible and sure as hell not something you see every day.

Silver Cigar Shaped object at high altitude moving West. I was in my yard when a reflection (flash) caught my eye through the trees in my yard. When I first saw the object it was directly above me at high altitude moving slowly across the sky to the West.
It was a highly reflective silver color and shaped like a cigar. I'm going to take a guess it was at least 40-50 thousand feet up. There was no sound or contrail.
I couldn't see any wings or control surfaces of any kind. jet's fly over daily at high altitude but I can always make out the wings as well as the body of the jet. Also, I can always hear the engines on a high altitude jet.
I lost sight of the object because of the trees on my property but it appeared to be on a steady course due West.

As I was in the car, I saw a white object in the sky which wasn't moving, just hovering there. It had distinct sharp ends on each side, and looked as it if might have been a disc, but from the angle it was at I couldn't tell. The driver and I passed by a cluster of trees wich blocked it from sight, and when we were clear of them the object was gone.

Large, shiny, motionless cylinder. It has been sometime since I have seen this, but the thought of it has stayed with me. Driving home from work (South on US220) I saw in the SSE sky what appeared to be a very large and shiny cylinder.
It appeared to be at a fairly high altitude (my best guess between 25,000 and 40,000 feet). If my height guesstimate is correct then I would guess the length to be between 300 and 600 feet (this is based on what a commercial airliner looks like at cruising altitude). The length to diameter ratio was probably between 4 and 5.
The sky was totally clear, and the sun was at a late afternoon angle so the object was reflecting greatly. I'm sure it wasn't some reflection/glare from my windshield, because the car was shaded by the trees along the road. During the entire time I was watching, the object did not appear to move at all.
After I took my exit, which is basically a clover leaf, I was unable to find the object again. My first thought when I saw it was that it was a sattelite reflecting the low angle sunlight, but it was just too large. Like I said, this image has really stayed with me.
