Orange light moving slowly, not blinking, stopping for moments, then moving fast in different direction. Too high for a drone, not an helicopter, moving too abruptly to be a plane. It just disappeared after a while.

I was at my telescope looking at the full moon when I took my eye away from the telescope to give my eye's a rest from the moon" I looked to the west and saw three lights moving east slow. I rubed my eyes again and looked again and they where realy there.
(ha ha ) Well, I went in to grab my camera and realized my wifes was closer so I grabed her's. When i got back outside I looked up they where there but they where getting brighter and the space between the light's were getting brighter and brighter and they where changing color from white" to red blue and white. It was triangle but cone too and seem to have a point on the front.
The size was big " about a football field in size. Then in a blink it was gone to the east unreal speed " !!!.

Orange-amber fireball observed, passing above clouds I was walking out of a university building and was talking on the phone. I then saw an almost steady bright orange-amber ball in the sky, like a fireball. I first suspected a still incandescent remnant of a firework of some type.
It was not falling in a parabolic manner though, but was traveling linearly instead. I was hearing sparse firecracking so I naturally suspected firework. It then appeared much higher than expected for a firework and seemed to last unusually long.
I dismissed the possibility of a plane as no blinking lights were seen. The ball was steadily traveling linearly, like a meteor, but a little slower. It was like traveling across the sky from a north-east to full west direction and seemed to pick up speed.
Only as I saw it approaching a cloud that I realized the cloud looked to be beneath it?!? The light was covered by the cloud. I could still see a orange light through it. It seemed at this point to follow a slow rotation, the light started fading a little.
The weather was not hazy and only a few trails of clouds were scattered in the sky. Could it have been a (new type) of fireworks? The fact it passed over the cloud made me doubt. I then had the surely exaggerated thought of a plane possibly on fire.
It continued its course until it went full west then behind a building. As I took my car i then saw it (or maybe rather another one) again up in the sky in the west direction in the horizon. It was glowing amber, seemed to stand still and slowing faded as it slowly moved further in the horizon.
Firecracking and fireworks rare noises were much closer to me than was this light which seemed to be much further away. I suspected a new type of fireworks but having seen recently meteor, (not a meteorite nor shooting star), crossing the entire sky near this place this spring, it looked more like this. A fireball traveling linearly from north north-east to west and above the clouds as it went close to it? I suspect the ridiculousness of the situation for something that might just be a so-called "Chinese lantern" you most recently mentioned and that I never saw.
I, at first, just got appalled by the recent postings on your site as I came to check it, out of curiosity (and for the first time).

Organge light that split into 3 then disappeare I first noticed a large orange light in the sky north east of Battle Ground. The light was stationary for a few seconds then split into 3 balls, then back into 1 then disappeared. I had entered a similar siting on this web site on 4/27/04, but have not seen any since; however, there have been many similar sitings listed on this web site in this same area.
Most are in April around the same time. Grissom air force base is in this direction, but the lights I saw last night where not close to the base but between Battle Ground and Grissom.

half lit disc over Lafayette? I was driving back to work when I noticed 3 amber/orange lights in the sky to the NNE. At first I thought it was a plane but then I realize they weren't moving at all. Then I saw a few more lights light up for 5 or 6 total in a semi circle.
The object then proceded to rotate slightly and move to the N ever so slightly then the lights began to dissappear 1 at a time as it was rotating clockwise. There are numerous other witnesses to this even in the Lafayette, IN area but I was the only witness from where I was at. All reported the same thing.

Circling lights over Lafayette. Grad from Purdue flight program here and these were NOT airplanes. Many people witnessed.
I would like to confirm a report in Lafayette that somebody else made for this date. I even called it into the cops and they were receiving calls as well from others. I was driving in my car on US Hwy 52 between West Lafayette and Lafayette.
To the Northeast, I saw one bright orange light moving through the air. too fast for an airplane and no strobes so I was instantly interested. Then I saw a second one light up right behind it followed by a 3rd, 4th, and 5th.
They ascended and the light went out, but I could see the dark craft circling around and light up again when it came to the bottom part of the circle. They did this for about 3 cycles and disappeared. I am a graduate from Purdue University from the flight program, so I know what planes look like.
THIS WAS NOT AN AIRCRAFT FROM THIS WORLD. unless it was some secret government aircraft, but the military operations area is NOT near either city and the bases around here are not known for producing abnormal activity. I am absolutely convinced it was some kind of alien craft and have reported it to the student newspaper and the local newspaper and am still waiting for a response.
I will write letters to the editors to try to get others to report this. I told all of my friends about this and most did not believe me. One who didn't believe me was at work Sunday when a co-worker brought up how she saw UFOs around 10PM on the same night and he was stunned.
I am convinced there were MANY who saw this. The woman who told him about her sighting said she saw all of the lights merge together and disappear. The other witnesses listed were in the car behind me and pointing toward the UFO's.
Please watch the local papers! ((ADDENDUM FROM ORIGINAL WITNESS)) Supplemental report: I talked with the Tippecanoe County Police tonight and the officer stated that they have confirmation that the military was dropping flares last night. The objects I saw were to the Northeast, which is in the direction of the Military Operations Area (MOA) for Grissom AFB. I do not believe they have fast, highly maneuverable aircraft station at that base.
The officer also stated that it was unusual that the AFB did not announce any flares or military operations to the FAA. The area of the sighting would be in control of Chicago Center, which the officer said did not see anything on radar. The officer stated that the flight controller in chicago was really mad because he saw nothing on their radar and was not notified.
I believe I estimated that the objects were around 5 or 6 thousand feet. From my flight experience, I know center will not see objects below about 6,000 feet. The officer assured me that the AFB had the aircraft on radar and it was their planes.
The bottom line is that nobody knew of any military operations beforehand, which makes the event more interesting. The other problem with the flare excuse is that the lights did not last long. Also, I would estimate the lights were only lit for 5 seconds at a time and I believe flares should last longer.
The biggest problem with the flare excuse is that all of the lights started at the exact same point in the sky. The only way the flares could start at the same point is if the airplane is flying directly toward or away from me. If that was the case, the flares should not have had such lateral movement.
The lights were also at a constant speed and did not descend much or slow down as you would expect. Assuming the aircraft stayed in the MOA, the speed of the lights should have been much slower. In my professional opinion as a graduate of the Purdue flight program, the lights originated from an aircraft beyond the capabilities of modern fighter jets that the public is made aware of.
Due to the silence and disappearance of the craft (which I could see when the lights turned off during the circling maneuver), I tend to think it may be extraterrestrial, but then again, I didn't see it enter orbit. I told all of my friends about what I saw and none of them witnessed the event, however one of my friends who dismissed my claim was at work when a co-worker started talking about UFOs that she saw. She stated that at the end, the orangish lights all came together and then disappeared.
I will be trying to get more info ASAP. ((END ADDENDUM)).

2000 mph metalic oval with con trail in day time sky over Indiana. On Monday 12/20/04 at aproximately 4 PM , I was outside in the parking lot looking at all the little puffy clouds dotting the sky. Noticed a fast moving object to the west.
Craft was traveling east. I estimate it was going 2000mph. It left a long prominent single con trail.
Appeared gold metalic with the full sun reflecting off it. It was long oval shaped and solid. I estimate its alltitude at about 20,000 feet.
I followed it across the sky as it moved in a straight line. Observed the "ufo" for about 15 seconds or so. It never re appeared from behind a small cloud to the north east.
Could have been a scram jet??? It did NOT have wings. Thats my story and Im sticking to it.

Oval unidentified object moving impossibly in the sky I was on the road with my family as a child going back home from Purdue University because my father was attending the University at that time. At my young age of 7 years old, I had no idea what UFOs even were nor did I care. As a normal child would, I looked up at the sky and the environment around me as I was riding in the backseat of my father's car as he was driving on the quiet open roads.
It was a peaceful sunny day and nothing seemed out of place. As I looked up once again to see the clear blue skies, I saw a light that at first glance looked like a a small moon emitting light from itself like a soft glow. The oval aircraft did not emit light from just one part of the aircraft but looked like it was made of light itself, as the sun would shine, although it was clearly a lot less brighter than the sun.
Then I realized it was moving so I believed it must be an aircraft. The moment I realized that it was not a normal aircraft was the way it was moving. T! he oval shaped aircraft started moving erratically from left to right in speeds and angles that would be impossible for a normal or any existing aircraft so I alerted my father who was driving and told him, "look there is a funny airplane in the air.
" He glanced at the aircraft and he did not know what it was. I kept watching the aircraft and it would move left and right almost instantaneously in distances that would be utterly impossible with any object. Even as a child I knew how airplanes moved in the sky and knew all airplanes moved linear.
More intriguingly, after moving bizarrely at incredible speeds, the aircraft disappeared as fast as it had appeared. To this day, I have no explanation for what I had seen but I know for certain that it had been a unidentified flying object. Whether this was a military test aircraft or an alien spacecraft, I can never know but I will always know that what I saw was not a normal aircraft and I am certain there are things tha! t are supernatural or far beyond our technology as we know it.
! Upon fu rther investigation on this childhood experience, I have learned that the state of Indiana had military aircraft stations near Lafayette and many others who have experienced the same UFO experience around the same time that I did, as with the more notorious military aircraft bases like the Area 51.
