Flash bulb-like lights against a clear, dark sky. We were taking pictures of the moon and stars against the backdrop of the dunes at White Sands. I turned around and was surprised to see these odd lights flashing randomly in the sky.
The light haze on the horizon is coming from Holloman AFB. I couldn't determine a shape and didn't see standard aircraft (colored) lights. At a couple of moments, the lights stayed solid, and we assumed perhaps they were facing our direction at that point.
Someone suggested they may be helicopters. The sky was very clear that night. In the video, I identify Arturus and Sirius.
The moon was overhead and behind me, just over Jupiter, but I don't think I caught that in this video. Https://youtu.be/pGf9LDYZIA0?si=dohCGHsKjbDprN70.

Metallic object viewed on video in sky above White Sands National Monument On August 18, 2016, at 20:48, myself, my mom and sister were at White Sands National Monument. The monument was opening late that night for a special full moon event complete with military band at the dunes. Prior to the event we were all sledding on the dunes.
I decided to do a selfie video on my IPhone 6S, while sliding down the dunes. After leaving later that night, headed to Silver City, NM, I was viewing the video, and noticed a silvery, metallic, somewhat round object that seemed to flip around in the sky above me. It appeared to dart around somewhat but that could also be from me being in motion sliding down the dunes.
We tried to debunk as a sunspot, but near the end of the video I could see a sunspot and it is not the same as what I captured in the video. At first not sure, but when viewed in slow motion it is very visible. I also snapped still shots from the video which show something and it doesn't appear to be a cloud or a sunspot, but something with mass and shape.
To my knowledge there was no aerial testing going on at the missile range that day, as the roads were still open and the monument was open, which both are normally closed during testing. ((NUFORC Note: We have requested permission to view the photos, but have not seen them, yet. PD)).

bright lights playing tic-tac-toe in the sky for over 2 hours At the white sands nat.l monument, twilight, as many as 6 bright orange hourglass shaped lights (individually the size of my little fingernail at arms length) appeared due south about 10 miles away, 7 of us watched them hover in place, changing formation, forming a triangles, artistic patterns, side by side pairs, stacked pairs, diamonds, we joked that it was like watching an aerial tic tac toe game. The event lasted for over 2 hours and continued even after we left the park when it closed at 10 pm.
The lights were rising in altitude about 25-35 degrees off the horizon, hovering, and descending below the dunes as they changed formation. They seemed to remain only in the southern quadrant of the sky keeping the same distance from us. There was no noise and only once, for 10 minutes, did I notice 2 circling aircraft (that seemed very small compared to the lights) in their vicinity.
It could have been some desert military exercises with helicopters, but I never saw any strobes or nav. lights, and the movements/formations seeemed unusual behavior for helicopters unless they were practicing for some blue-angel air-show event. It just didn't seem to be the way helicopters would support ground troops at night.
The movements were not quick, but deliberate, and seemed to be precisely mathmatically coriagraphed. The lights seemed to have two stages, shaped like an hourglass, self illumined, not attached to any structural object, very intense, unwavering, steady, piercing, never did they turn off and on, turn away from us, they were always on, face to us, and only disappeared when descending below the dunes. The diamond formation was especially visually pleasing, and overall the serenity of the twilight>night white sand afterglow, starlit, clear desert sky with the dancing lights made for a serene, spectacular, and awe inspired evening.
There seemed to be no unusual concern, outside of the 2 briefly circling jets, from Holoman AFB five miles to the east of white sands, and after watching the strange lights for a couple of hours it just seemed as no big deal for us either, almost as commonplace as the sunset, and as beautiful. This did occur strange to me the next day when thinking about it. Hmmm.

A starlike object descended vertically for 2 minutes changing color from a very bright white to gold the closer it got to the ground. The light landed at Holloman AFB ever so slowly decellerating to a stop on the airstrip. As the light decended there were 3 stealth fighter jets circling at approximately a 14 mile radius.
All 3 jets landed directly after the event. As we were leaving the White Sands Natl. monument at approximately 19:15 pm mst.
after watching the solstice full moon rise, I noticed due east a piercing white light, about half the size of my little finger held at arms length, decending from approx. 5000 ft. vertically very slowly toward the middle of Holloman AFB.
I stopped the car, grabbed the binoculars, and watched the object decend for approx. 2 minutes. 2 others got out of the car and 2 others watched from within the car.
I noticed 3 circling stealth f-117 nighthawks circling the light in an approx.14 mile diameter circle. The object was approx 7 miles away and through the binoculars looked just like a very bright light with no stobes, beacons , or any other kind of aircraft type navigational lights.
As the object neared the ground I noticed the underside of the light changing to a mellow yellow-gold glow. I then passed the binoculars off to another friend. The light did not seem to stop and hover, it decended in a very deliberate yet exponetially slower manner until it landed at what appeared to be the middle of the airfield.
I could not resolve a shape to the intense light, yet at the same distance I had no problem resolving the very dim navigational lights outlining the circling stealth jets. The light could have been a helicopter with some sort of amazingly bright battlefield night light, or an aircraft with a super set of landing lights approaching head on from my position, but from my perspective it definitely looked like a vertical decent of a very bright star with no discernable outlines of any solidity. I could hear the stealth as they flew overhead, but there was no sound from the starlike object.
The 2 of us outside with the binoculars were impressed and amazed that our airforce has come so far with their technology, the others observing from within and outside the car didn't think much of bright lights descending into an airbase and dismissed our awe as silliness. My overall impression was that it was indeed a more incredible eve! nt than the beautiful full moon rising over white sands that night, and I thought it was definitely worth sharing with the NUFORC. I will email a map with a diagram of my position at the time of the sighting, thanks.

Large, unusually-shaped metallic object over White Sands NM, May 1995 During a stop at white Sands NM in May 1995, my sister took several photos since it was her first visit. Neither she nor my late husband nor I saw anything in the sky or heard anything when the photos were taken. My sister passed away this year & I was scanning her photos into the computer & discovered objects in 2 or 3 old photos including one from White Sands.
Yhis is a no-fly zone, isn't it? I've had many sightings over the past 40 years, but this photo was pretty surprising. I am emailing the photo to you. ((NUFORC Note: Date is approximate.
The photo shows what look to be some type of wooden objects, joined to one another, backdropped by the sky. We have no reason to believe that they are a genuine UFO. PD)).
