UFO encounter or high-tech military aircraft? Nov. 3, 2000 I just talked to a man who told me about an amazing encounter he had with what sounds like a UFO, or at least a military craft sporting impossible technology. Here's his account: In November or December of 1988, a man, who I will identify as Mike (not his real name), was driving along Hwy.

38 in rural eastern Arkansas between the towns of Hickory Plains and DesArc. He was on his way to join buddies for duck hunting. As he was driving on a deserted stretch of highway about 4:30 a.

m., he became aware of an intense white light shining above the woods about a half mile in the distance. There was a farm field between the road and the woods.

An object appeared to be moving along the timberline at a slow speed, perhaps 5 mph. The object was dark, and he couldn't discern its shape. It emitted an intense white light that lit up the ground.

"It was the most intense light I had ever seen then or since, " he said. Mike slowed his speed so he could look more closely. His thought at the time was that it was a military aircraft from the Little Rock Air Force base at Jacksonville, about 30 miles away.

The pilot of the craft seemed to be moving along the edge of the woods looking for something. It was about 100 feet off the ground, about 20 feet higher than the trees. Mike's impression was that it was military personnel goofing off and shining a spotlight looking for deer.

He rolled his window down to listen, but he could not hear the characteristic sound of a helicopter engine or a noise of any sort. "I think I'm gonna' get a good look at this," Mike recalled telling himself. He stopped his pickup truck even with the object.

As he watched, the object started moving generally in his direction, which made him nervous. It slowly gained altitude as it moved to a point about a quarter mile in front of his truck and about 2,000 to 3,000 feet in the air. It abruptly made an impossible turn and accelerated and disappeared all "in the blink of an eye.

" He also described it's acceleration like "a shooting star." He turned to look back behind him, but the object was not visible. He heard no sound of any kind.

He said his impression was, "Whoa, now that's weird!" He drove on to meet his buddies and told them the story, but he was met with disbelief. I questioned Mike about missing time. He stated that he was 15 minutes late joining his friends.

He estimated the sighting only lasted 5 minutes. He noted that he has driven the road many times and can't account for the lost 10 minutes. Mike has only told the story to five or six people in 12 years.

He continued, for a while, to believe that it was a military craft, but Mike eventually acknowledged that it could have been something that was not manmade. (Mike is relatively high up in an educational institution and is concerned about his name being used.) Numerous Lifelong Sightings I have had several experiences during my life that are unexplainable and taken together almost suggest a pattern. The first experience happened around 1955 in Miami, Oklahoma. My grandmother and I lived in a house with a large grassy lot between us and the corner of our street.

I awoke one morning and went outside to play. As I usually did. A large circle, open in the middle, appeared to be burned into the grass.

There were three evenly spaced indentations around the circle. Shortly thereafter, several men in military uniforms came and took pictures, measurements, and soil samples. My sister, who is 13 years older than I, also remembers this incident.

In 1987, in route from Harrison, Arkansas to Springfield, Missouri, at dusk, my daughter and I saw a beam of light come from the bottom of a large dark unknown type of aircraft. The light swung from left to right over the ground. Although we were not close to another vehicle, there was other traffic on the highway and we all slowed down presumably to observe this odd thing coming toward the highway about 50-75 feet above the ground.

It crossed the highway maybe 100 feet ahead of us. It circled and started back toward us. It passed directly overhead and I leaned out of the passenger window to see if I could see what it was.

There were designs or writing on the bottom but I could not tell what they were. It flew silently overhead and we continued on our way. In approximately March of 1988, my daughter and I were driving south from Harrison, Arkansas to Jasper, Arkansas.

It was night and the sky was black. No stars were visible. We had experiences that night that I hesitate to mention because it is so hard to believe.

If we had not had the experiences we had, I, myself, would not have believed it. On July 4, 2005 I was sitting with my friend in her front yard watching the fireworks display. To our left, about 40 orange glowing craft silently floated by about 50 feet off the ground.

We all stopped and watched until they disappeared. About two minutes later a huge orange glowing craft came by. There was no sound.

They definitely were not fireworks. A few minutes after the large craft passed, we heard chopper blades and helicopters so black we could hardly see them came from the direction from which the crafts had come and went in the direction they had gone. I continue to experience unusual events.

((NUFORC Note: Witness indicates that the date of the sighting is approximate. PD)).

Full Report Text:

On this evening I saw what I thought was a halogen search light from a hovering helicopter. Something about the light did not seem right so I pulled over to the side of the road. I was headed north towards Springfield, MO and was very close to the MO border.

The sun was setting and the craft was in shadow at the northern edge of a field below me. The beam of light turned into the visible exhaust of an engine. As the craft ascended vertically the rocket-shaped object turned north-northeast so that I could see that the engine emitting exhaust was a central engine surrounded by five or six other engines that were firing intermittently.

The craft seemed to be a mat black in that as it got to tree top level (and was flying horizontally by this time) the sun did not reflect on it at all--even though the sun was SW of me and the rocket was north. It had been standing upright at the edge of the field and as it rose it turned on it's side and also rotated slowly. I could see, as it turned, that it had no FAA regulation lights or markings of any kind.

The only lights on it were small white non-strobe placed at various points so I could determine the shape of the whole object. It flew over the trees and disappeared beyond them traveling very slowly--between 20 and 40 mph it seemed--moving in a NE direction. I noticed the time--it was between 5 and 6 pm.

I did not "lose" any time. There was no traffic on this stretch of the road even though there was before and after the sighting. There were houses up on a ridge to the right of me and I saw no one observing from any of the houses.

I checked my engine--it was on--but everything was quiet enough to realize the craft had made no noise whatsoever. As I drove on to Springfield, hoping to stop in time for the 10 o'clock news, there was one "report" on the radio when I heard a woman call in to a sports talk show on AM and ask for advice to reporting the sighting of the craft. She was agitated and confused and the host and guest on the show (talking about the Houston Atsrodome) did not know what to say.

After some silence, the host reminded her that she had called in to a sports talk show and asked if she had a question about the dome. When she said 'no' he put her off the air. I arrived in my motel room at 10 pm and watched the news [I don't recall the station Id.

any longer] and the very last piece was a video a farmer had sent in that evening that showed the craft flying over his field. While the anchors laughed and joked about the video, they relayed that the farmer has said that he was doing some night plowing and he jumped off his tractor when it seemed the craft was so low it might fly into the tractor. The video showed the same object I saw still flying slowly and horizantally in an east-north east direction.

The anchors reported that the object had been seen along the Arkansas and Missouri border that evening [and a few other states that I no longer recall]. However, when the station checked with the nearest military base they were told that radar had detected nothing and that what people were probably seeing was lights from the burning debris of a Soviet satellite that was re-entering the atmosphere. It was quite obvious from my observation and the video that what we saw was not any kind of satellite and that no satellite [that looked like a rocket?] would have been able to fly above treetop level, below radar, maintain a constant speed and not crash anywhere.

The debris from the actual satellite burned up upon entering the atmoshpere, was miles up in the night sky and looked momentarily like a falling star--as reported by other news sources.
